On "My Car Story" we're at the Carlisle Events in Carlisle PA on 7-14-23.
We're looking at a 1958 DeSoto Firedome Sportsman 2 Door Autumn Rust and Rose Beige Paint. The car comes with the 354 CI V8 engine, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is L’Donna Lynds. L’Donna’s had this car since 2010. She shared she loves cars with Fins. Ron, L’Donna’s Father shares this car is a Candian car. Ron shares you can tell by the gray color under the hood and truck and that lets you know that it’s a Canadian car.

Randy & L’Donna brought this beautiful car all the way from British Columbia! We had the opportunity to meet and spend some time with Randy & L’Donna. Very enjoyable. This restoration made this car at least as good as new. Everything is perfect ! Both exterior & interior. Congratulations to Randy & L’Donna.

The look is so '50's when the suburban homeowner would wash and wax a car like this one and then stand back in pride of how it looked in the driveway. I particularly like the interior fabrics and colors. Gorgeous!

Love this Firedome! As great as it looks in your video, Lou, it's even more magnificent in person. Ron and L'Donna are delightful and have performed magic in restoring this rare DeSoto - exterior, interior - every nut and bolt! And we see here that its 354 Poly (polyspheric head) motor is topped by Chrysler Corp's unique-style air cleaner that mounts on the carb with its neck running off to the side, containing the plenum holding the air filter. Very interesting to see it in this Canadian-built '58 Firedome, as this style air cleaner was a 1-year only design that Chrysler installed on its 1957 US-built models. Chrysler manufactured its Poly motors from 1955-1958, using the same block and crankshaft as the famed Gen I Hemi motors, but using different heads, as L'Donna mentions, along with various other different internal components. As DeSoto's period ads proclaimed - "It's Delightful, It's Delovely, It's DeSoto!!"

Hi, Lou! Always refreshing to see a DeSoto out on the road, especially a '58! That year saw the best-looking DeSotos ever made IMHO. And the details regarding this one as a Canadian specimen are particularly interesting. Two years is long time to miss out on driving it, but you're fortunate that Hagerty saw fit to forgive L'Donna so that she could take you (and virtually, us) along for the ride! Another awesome, post, Lou!

I owned one of those in 1968! It was a 1958 DeSoto Firedome Sportsman 2-door hardtop, all original. It was Fire Engine Red all over, with two-tone black and grey interior. It had the 361-Poly V8 with Torqueflite. I loved it! I also owned a 1958 Plymouth Fury at the same time, in 1968. Then I was drafted into the Army, and I had to sell the DeSoto. The Fury was totalled out in an auto accident on June 5, 1968 in which I was severely injured (it wasn't my fault!), but it didn't keep Uncle Sam from drafting me on June 16. I got a medical discharge and was out on Sept. 30, 1968, and bought a 1960 Plymouth Fury with 383-V8 and Torqueflite.

It reminds me of a friend's car from back in the day - It was a '58 Studebaker of similar design and they had a White Cat on the package tray whose red eyes would light up when you hit the brakes. (The first example of '3rd Brake Lights'?) Great Times
