Beautiful car. Wonderful color combination. Yes, the styling is excessive and so is the level of gaudiness. But this is just a wonderful specimen of an era that has long disappeared. What makes it better is that it is not an SUV, CUV, or a Tesla golf cart. Thanks for sharing, Lou!

Exactly lonny! ALL cars look the same now, and are BORING! The Big 3 STOPPED using chrome bumpers in 1972. That is what made the vehicles look so good back then. Govt. regulations of course. They like to keep us 'safe'. That's why they SPRAY us like insects with poisonous chem-trails!

Morning Lou. Great video. My neighbors growing up. Had a 53 green 4dr sedan. With the Hemi at that time. He bought a different car . A 62 Pontiac 4 dr Hardtop. His 2nd son. Was basically my age. He graduated in 1969. now. He got the Desoto. He drove it. To high school. We lived in SEK He drove it 4 2 years to 2yrs college. He drove it to Topeka. To Washburn law school. Came back home . Drove it to work then . This old Desoto was flawless. His mistake was he sold it or traded it for Vega the hot rod GT. One morning he knocked on the door. His Vega would not start. I asked him about it . He had taken it to get a tune up. It had a loose wire on the distributor. I tell you this . The Old Desoto except for light maintenance. It never let him down. ❤

Just wow. IMO the most beautiful car of the 50's and this is from someone owning 50's cars of other makes. It really does not get better than the Forward Look and to my eye the 57-59 DeSoto is the best looker of the bunch. I had a friend with a 59 Fireflite hardtop coupe and it was amazing, the style and performance.

1957-58 Exner styling was the GOAT. My absolute favourite is the 57-58 two door hardtops by Plymouth and Dodge (the roof lines were even lower than Desoto's and Chrysler's) but that Desoto is gorgeous still. Those big fins with the triple stacked tail lights 😍

My brother was 13 years older than me. In 1961 when I was about 12 or so he had a 1959 Light blue/white Plymouth station wagon. Obviously wasn't the DeSoto above, but it had massivre fins and was super cool to ride in.. That was about the time I began riding my bike up Cicero Ave in Chicago where all the car dealers were, collecting car brochures. Turned me into a life long car guy with lots of fun and no regrets.

Hi Lou! These DeSoto Adventurers seem to keep coming out of hiding. You covered a '59 convertible just a few months back, and now this '58 hardtop! Adventurers were rare even when they were new; that is the biggest reason they're so scarce today. Seeing another Adventurer in 2023 is a one in a million chance. This car should be preserved, because I bet those unique parts are very difficult, unless you connect with a few other owners of these cars and start your own "De Soto Adventurer Owners Club." Driving one must be something else. When you and the owner took a drive, I can picture how exciting it must have been! Thanks again, Lou, for another exciting video. Hopefully you'll come across another Adventurer like this one! _(10/29/2023)_

Hi Know Bodies Full, You're right a RARE site today to see an Adventurer. It's interesting. You're welcome and I hope I see another one soon too, Lou

This '58 Adventurer is a favorite in Bruce's stable of DeSotos. Not knowing to what extent the condition of the collection of boxes of parts that Bruce trucked home when he bought this beauty, it's incredible to hear him say he completed his body-off resto of this rare coupe in only 1 year! The 150 mph speedo seen in his dash was installed in Adventurers for only their 1957-1958 model years, different from the Chrysler 300 Letter Cars that presented the 150 mph speedos for years 1955-1963. So much eye candy, this car looks fabulous in black. Sweet video!

My parents had a 1958 Firefight 4 door hardtop. The DeSoto was my favorite family car out of all the cars my family had. My dad ordered it with factory air conditioning that also had clear polycarbonate air conditioning ducts that were on the rear package tray. It was a great car to take on vacation because of the rear a/c ducts. It was the first car they had with power everything, windows door locks, seats and transmission. After the DeSoto they bought Imperials. But no other vehicle ever looked as good as the DeSoto.

Thank you for sharing this beauty. When I was a kid back in 58, I said cars could not be this beautiful when I grew up. I was right. Back in the early 70s, I found a white/gold 1957 Adventurer in pretty good shape, the owner "almost" sold it to me for $1200 (which was quite a price for a first-year teacher making $6800) but last minute decided to keep it for his son. Sure wish he had sold it to me. My classic car is a 71 Dodge Challenger convertible. Great car, BUT a 58 Desoto would look great in my garage.... even a Fireflite. Learned to drive on Dad's 63 Fury with a Commando 361. Mopars forever.

What a beautiful car! It's a wonder that the Dodge Corporation wasn't No. 1 in the Automotive Industry between Ford & Chevrolet in the "50's" their styling, power and the quality! Lou you find the Greatest examples of classic cars! You're The Untouchable of finding Beautiful fine Cars! It makes me think back to being a kid on the Southside of Chicago! When playing outside on the streets a fine car would come through the block! Everyone & everything would stop to look at the car! Kids, Moms and yes begrudgingly even the Dad's if they were home! I see a car like that! It makes me proud that it was built in the USA by hard working people that took pride in building a fine car! That they probably couldn't even afford to buy! Beautiful restoration. Back when acres of chrome, tail fins, and whitewalls were king! That 361 likely pumps out around 350 HP? That car really has soul, which is sorely lacking of most of today's vehicles.

383 without the two 4bbls in Mom's '68 Plymouth Sport Fury. Thanks for the heads up on the introduction of the 383 in '59. Excellent workhorse (383) Chrysler Corp. motor for a lotta years; next step up from the 318 for many 60s mid-range Mopar models, across divisions (i.e. Ply/ Dodge/ Chrysler) as marketed back then.

Absolutely gorgeous DeSoto. How surreal would it be to see a black DeSoto flying down the road. In 58 fuel injection was also an option. Electronics at the time prevented it from catching on

Absolutely love DeSoto/Dodge and Plymouth models from 1957-1959. They were fantastic..nothing else comparied. However I liked the 1955-1956 Chryslers best. The 1957-1959 Chrysler models looked too much like their other makes and to me it cheapened the Chrysler name. . . This is a great example of a 1958 DeSoto Adventurer. The car sounds fantastic. The tail end view of this car is so big and beautiful! WOW, as usual I learned something. The gold paint and the medal insert! Who would have known? Love the interior an dash. Fantastic 50's Mopar! Always a thumbs up for Lou!

Hey Lou, It's Delightful 🎶 It's Delovely 🎵 It's DESOTO 🎶. And tell them Groucho sent you! 😉. Thanks for another great post! Still waiting for a post on 80S RWD Fifth Avenues. Saw a letter to editor in a recent Hemmings from a guy has one handed down from Dad. Can't find it but will keep looking. Might be a possibility. Believe it was in upper Midwest.

361 w/2 4barrels and 10.25:1 comp ratio was good for 345 HP. This sounds like it's slightly cammed up so probably a little more than factory.

Drop dead beautiful car. I love the 2-door HT roof line of the DeSotos and Chryslers much better than the Plymouth or Dodge. As a side note, the Plymouth in the movie "Christine" was a 1958 Belvedere HT, not a Fury. Why people refer to Christine as a Fury is something I do not understand.
