Beautiful car. Wonderful color combination. Yes, the styling is excessive and so is the level of gaudiness. But this is just a wonderful specimen of an era that has long disappeared. What makes it better is that it is not an SUV, CUV, or a Tesla golf cart. Thanks for sharing, Lou!

Exactly lonny! ALL cars look the same now, and are BORING! The Big 3 STOPPED using chrome bumpers in 1972. That is what made the vehicles look so good back then. Govt. regulations of course. They like to keep us 'safe'. That's why they SPRAY us like insects with poisonous chem-trails!

Thank you for sharing this beauty. When I was a kid back in 58, I said cars could not be this beautiful when I grew up. I was right. Back in the early 70s, I found a white/gold 1957 Adventurer in pretty good shape, the owner "almost" sold it to me for $1200 (which was quite a price for a first-year teacher making $6800) but last minute decided to keep it for his son. Sure wish he had sold it to me. My classic car is a 71 Dodge Challenger convertible. Great car, BUT a 58 Desoto would look great in my garage.... even a Fireflite. Learned to drive on Dad's 63 Fury with a Commando 361. Mopars forever.

My parents had a 1958 Firefight 4 door hardtop. The DeSoto was my favorite family car out of all the cars my family had. My dad ordered it with factory air conditioning that also had clear polycarbonate air conditioning ducts that were on the rear package tray. It was a great car to take on vacation because of the rear a/c ducts. It was the first car they had with power everything, windows door locks, seats and transmission. After the DeSoto they bought Imperials. But no other vehicle ever looked as good as the DeSoto.

Lou you find the Greatest examples of classic cars! You're The Untouchable of finding Beautiful fine Cars! It makes me think back to being a kid on the Southside of Chicago! When playing outside on the streets a fine car would come through the block! Everyone & everything would stop to look at the car! Kids, Moms and yes begrudgingly even the Dad's if they were home! I see a car like that! It makes me proud that it was built in the USA by hard working people that took pride in building a fine car! That they probably couldn't even afford to buy! Morning Lou. Great video. My neighbors growing up. Had a 53 green 4dr sedan. With the Hemi at that time. He bought a different car . A 62 Pontiac 4 dr Hardtop. His 2nd son. Was basically my age. He graduated in 1969. now. He got the Desoto. He drove it. To high school. We lived in SEK He drove it 4 2 years to 2yrs college. He drove it to Topeka. To Washburn law school. Came back home . Drove it to work then . This old Desoto was flawless. His mistake was he sold it or traded it for Vega the hot rod GT. One morning he knocked on the door. His Vega would not start. I asked him about it . He had taken it to get a tune up. It had a loose wire on the distributor. I tell you this . The Old Desoto except for light maintenance. It never let him down. ❤

My brother was 13 years older than me. In 1961 when I was about 12 or so he had a 1959 Light blue/white Plymouth station wagon. Obviously wasn't the DeSoto above, but it had massivre fins and was super cool to ride in.. That was about the time I began riding my bike up Cicero Ave in Chicago where all the car dealers were, collecting car brochures. Turned me into a life long car guy with lots of fun and no regrets.

This '58 Adventurer is a favorite in Bruce's stable of DeSotos. Not knowing to what extent the condition of the collection of boxes of parts that Bruce trucked home when he bought this beauty, it's incredible to hear him say he completed his body-off resto of this rare coupe in only 1 year! The 150 mph speedo seen in his dash was installed in Adventurers for only their 1957-1958 model years, different from the Chrysler 300 Letter Cars that presented the 150 mph speedos for years 1955-1963. So much eye candy, this car looks fabulous in black. Sweet video!

Hi Lou! These DeSoto Adventurers seem to keep coming out of hiding. You covered a '59 convertible just a few months back, and now this '58 hardtop! Adventurers were rare even when they were new; that is the biggest reason they're so scarce today. Seeing another Adventurer in 2023 is a one in a million chance. This car should be preserved, because I bet those unique parts are very difficult, unless you connect with a few other owners of these cars and start your own "De Soto Adventurer Owners Club." Driving one must be something else. When you and the owner took a drive, I can picture how exciting it must have been! Thanks again, Lou, for another exciting video. Hopefully you'll come across another Adventurer like this one! _(10/29/2023)_

Love the back of those cars! Superb! And that exhaust note is a symphony. Would've loved seeing the second 4bbl kick in.

Yes! I was just thiMking that those fins and tail lights look MAHvelous! I saw a 1957 Chrysler Windsor a few days ago on Curbside Classics and it was very outstanding too!

A beautiful and incredibly rare Adventurer. Bruce has some fantastic cars with those Adventurers. Don't you just love the name...Adventurer? It kind of makes you want to hit the open road! The other car with a really cool name was the Mercury "Turnpike Cruiser" of '57 & '58. Nice work Lou & Bruce.

361 w/2 4barrels and 10.25:1 comp ratio was good for 345 HP. This sounds like it's slightly cammed up so probably a little more than factory.

Drop dead beautiful car. I love the 2-door HT roof line of the DeSotos and Chryslers much better than the Plymouth or Dodge. As a side note, the Plymouth in the movie "Christine" was a 1958 Belvedere HT, not a Fury. Why people refer to Christine as a Fury is something I do not understand.

This car is very nice. See if anyone has a 55 or 56 DeSoto. I really liked those body styles. Those caught my eye in the movie Vertigo with Jimmy Stewart. He drove one in the movie.
