I am cautiously optimistic actually. I personally love most of the Ice Age franchise. The first 4 movies are great and very enjoyable but Collision Course turned out to be pretty mediocre and the Buck Wild spin-off was terrible. It would definitely be better than Buck Wild and hopefully would be better than Collision Course. Also we just got update on the release date - 18th December, 2026.

I really want to throw my honest opinion out there: I actually love this franchise, Ice Age was huge part of my childhood being some of my first ever seen movies with Pixar's Cars and Wall-E (mostly 1 and 2) . I feel like Disney is trying to milk Ice Age like what Pixar is doing to Toy Story right now because if you keep adding more things to the original movie its gonna make it hard for you to keep the sequel alive and lovable for the people to watch, but if you find a good story in order for these types sequels to stay alive and lovable you’ll be fine. If not it’s not gonna look well for the sequels.

Nimona is not the first movie Disney didn’t want to make and ended up going to another studio. Don Bluth pitched Mrs. Frisby and The Rats of Nimh to Disney in the 70s. Disney didn’t want to make it and Bluth made it instead.

If money’s the only reason why Disney’s letting 20th Century Animation to work on an Ice Age Sequel, then they would’ve known that the Ice Age sequels had sucked after the 5th movie. I grew up with the first three films. They're an enjoyable part of my childhood. The fourth one was alright, nothing too special. Movie 5 should've never existed. A sixth or seventh animated movie in am animated franchise is actually less rare that ever. If you count spin-offs in franchises. The Shrek (5) and Puss and Boots (2) movies will be on their 7th. Ice Age (6) and The Adventures of Buck Wild (1) will be on their 7th. Toy Story (5) and Buzz Lightyear(2) will be on their 7th. And Minions (3) and Despicable Me (4) will be on their 7th.
