The fact that she gave a statement that she is "disappointed in the British Public" and that she felt "unsupported", when she wanted to use the money to fly out relatives of friends that were out there with her.... in other words, those who WERE supporting her out in Tenerife, wanted their partners and families to come out to Tenerife too. Adding to the mounting bill for flights, accommodation, etc - basically a holiday in Tenerife. These friends and family were not there to help search, but to give her support. I only heard of Jay's Dad and Brother searching, along with all the teams that were out there searching. Maybe she could now retract that statement about the British Public?????? Instead of asking for more and more funds. We don't want to be seeing a "Royal Funeral' and a major Booze up.

I totally agree , except with the bit about dying instantly. Whether he fell or was pushed he either had a long fall and then upon impact broke numerous bones and died instantly. But would have been terrified free falling before hand. Or he may have fell and bounced off every rock breaking bones and tearing flesh until he hit the bottom. I don’t say this out of any sick and twisted way. I say this because with them withholding the exact location of the remains no one can see whether where he fell from was an overhang or sloped down to the final resting place.

I cannot understand this family at all!!! Having lost a child myself, I totally agree that their funeral is the last thing you can do for them - and you want to do your very best. However - the key is ‘YOUR BEST’, not 5,000 people on the internet donating to a cause’s ‘Best’! When it was our daughter’s funeral, we made it personal to her and our family, choosing her clothes, picking the type of service, any readings or speeches, any particular music, photos etc. I understand that funerals are expensive, especially when they are unplanned, but to keep asking people to donate to this is ridiculous! I also don’t believe the £20K repatriation charge either!!! If that’s honestly what they’re paying, they’re getting ripped off!!! We’ve also had to do this from a cruise in the middle of the ocean!!! Helicopter to the main land, then cargo to the UK. We did need to pay a proportion initially, then claimed everything back from our travel insurance company, only paying a small excess. The whole thing is odd!

Although formal identification is yet to be carried out, the body was found WITH Mr Slater’s possessions and clothes. A post mortem and forensic enquiries will follow. LBT Global are supporting the family at this distressing time and ask for everyone to afford them space and privacy to come to terms with the news." Slater was found deep in a ravine that cadaver dogs had not been airlifted into. A video posted by El Mundo whose title begins "Hallan un cadaver en la zona" shows that the terrain was so difficult that the Guardia Civil Mountain Rescue Team were airlifted out by helicopter. Also it can be seen at: Manchester Evening News - Footage reveals final moments of Jay Slater search in Tenerife."

Fair play, Paul and quite frankly - as someone who works in Intelligence and Investigations, I feel that everyone who donated out of the kindness of their own hearts DOES have the right to question how the donations are used. This is particularly true as initially some money was to be used for accommodation and expenses. However, as I have pointed out previously, in cases such as this which extend over a period of time, more often than the authorities cover those expenses. The funds would most likely not have been needed for that. I can only think of two cases that I have personally been involved with where that hasn't been the case - ever. Then after snapping back at people who had donated, she changed her mind and said some funds would be used to bring in professional search teams. But even then, nothing happened for quite some time. There was absolutely no sense of urgency. I have dealt with many families in somewhat similar sad situations and it's all we could do to stop family members digging with their bare hands and searching in darkness - so desperate was the need for answers. I don't think she should have been so quick to repeatedly jump online and attack the very people supporting the family for asking this. There shouldn't have been time to monitor social media at all. After all, people were donating under the impression that funds would be used for very specific purposes - only for that to keep changing when challenged. Now the funds are for repatriation... and now, yet again, it's changed... for more funds for a send off 🤨 I'm sorry, that's just not a good look. I have never dealt with any other family in light of equally if not more so tragic events (whole families being lost - multiple small children - to incidents such as drink drivers or hit and run) asking something like this and it comes across as greedy in the face of grief. There will be interviews, books, serialisation of the story in newspapers and documentaries for which the family will paid too.

What they are quoting there, is that yes it can indeed cost 20 grand or more to get a body to the UK from some places, but that's when that place is in the arse end of nowhere with few airlines which go there and those which do go there use aircraft unsuitable for loading a coffin onto. But that's not the case with Tenerife South airport. Easyjet, Ryanair, TUI and Jet2 all operate direct flights to Manchester from Tenerife South and whilst not all of those airlines fly cargo, to my knowledge at least three of them will fly a coffin back to Manchester Airport in the hold. The aircraft they use are A320 and A330 variants and Boeing 737 variants, and whilst its not too easy to get a coffin on and off a 737 because the cargo doors on the holds are not massive (I speak from personal experience), it can be done and it's certainly not a problem if loading onto an A320 or A330. As noted, I've personally unloaded numerous coffins from holiday airliners at Manchester Airport, even when they were on aircraft from airlines which don't fly direct to Manchester from Tenerife, including Aer Lingus, British Airways, Air Baltic, Brussels Airways, Condor, Corendon, Eurowings, Iberia, Icelandair, Norwegian, Royal Air Maroc, Scandinavian, TAP, Transavia and Vueling. But all these airlines do operate flights to and from Tenerife to other European or UK mainland destinations, so they could easily transfer a coffin from one of those flights, to one which was going into Manchester which they also all fly to, or if not, one of their Star Alliance or Skyteam partners could do it on a code share. It's quite likely too, that any half decent holiday insurance policy would cover at least some, if not all of the costs for such a flight. So yeah, if you had no holiday insurance and your body had to be flown to Manchester from Ulaanbaatar or some such, you might indeed be looking at 20 grand, but there's no way it would cost that much from Tenerife and anyone who says it would cost that much, is full of crap.

I keep thinking the reality is that he was probably high as hell and obviously we don't do logical things when high or coming down off drugs, in my raving days I've walked miles back from raves and got lost etc. However, nobody except a random bar maid have highlighted that he might have been high/unwell.

If it's logical that people will do illogical things when they're still buzzing (how long, do you know, was it between Jay's last dabble and when he is supposed to have left the B&B?) then why did neither of the two people he called (one of whom definitely said she had gone to bed early as she was so tired) employ logic? He phoned them and let them know his situation. About an hour, by vehicle, away from them. How far could his illogicality have taken him away in an hour? They could have found a ride and gone to find him. Or, more obviously quicker, phoned the B&B and explained what was happening and asked the two men to go and retrieve him until his friends could get there. At that point he would, potentially, not be an hour deep into his illogical adventure. I would have phoned the B&B. Particularly if I already knew the two men staying there. Long before I phoned the police to report Jay missing. Straight on the blower to the B&B. Why didn't that happen? Or, did it happen? Did somebody find Jay BEFORE he fell? There doesn't even have to be foul play involved in that scenario. Jay could have been so scared, either chemically or for a better reason, and in backing away from his would be rescuers backed over a cliff. If it happened like that; then a potential cover up (machinations to hide the facts from enquiry) is what the colluders are going to get away with. And, of course, there may be questions to answer about why somebody would set up a GoFundMe if they already knew Jay was dead.

There would be pretty much nothing to see of him other than bone and some left over skin. When i was curious about the fingerprints i watched numerous time lapse videos of decaying animals. What stands out is the feet (hands) tend to survive quite well while everything else is taken by insects and the natural break down of human organs and flesh. That makes sense because they are mostly just skin and bone. There are also definitely techniques used for fingerprints from decayed bodies, even in advanced states, so i imagine they are not lying about it.

Scientists have known how to take fingerprints from badly decomposed bodies since the 1960's. Funerals are for the ones left behind more than the deceased - they're already gone. Why not keep the funeral costs down and donate the rest of the Gofundme to help other people who need it, or set up a charity in Jay's name teaching young people how to survive beyond their own front doors.....the great outdoors comes later.
