There's the two key words there, 3300, that one. I bought 3 , one after the other. Each pack, splendid value. Good in t'winter for lobbing some in a stew. Last one i got, salty, and tough as old boots. Either way, non got wasted. No complaints with any thing i've bought from HB's. It's a good "learner" for some one who's useless at this crack. Where there's a will, there's a way, i say !! Necessity is indeed the mother of invention. Good job, G, as per.

I’ve been buying this for years. I open it up and check the size of the pieces. That determine what I’m going to cook with it. If they are big chunks it’s boiled bacon and cabbage with spuds n’ parsley sauce. If not it goes into stir fry’s, quiche, soups, sambos, or pasta dishes to name but a few. Great value. I pay €2.25 over here. Yeah can sometimes be a little fatty but just cut it off before cooking. I then put the fat into the air fryer and make pork scratching. No wast with me! 🤣

I used to buy these packs from asda and tesco for 75p, sometimes you get a load of rashers, sometimes you get gammon slices. You get used to being able to tell which before you buy it. Such a good deal for when you're really struggling for money and can't afford much meat.

I bought one of these packs from a local butcher for around the same price. When I opened it like that one it was huge chunks and I had no idea what to do with it however, they are excellent for putting making a pea and ham soup etc. Next time I will try and grill them but they are value for money. I don't eat much bacon not as much as I used to eat which was daily but I do love it.

If its German , it usually is good . Soak it in water to reduce the saltiness and it valso leeches some of the nitrates and pat it dry . Now here is a real tip - Bash the bacon - make it thinner ~ 3 bowls - Whip up an egg ot two -- Get some flour --- Make some breadcrumbs. Dip the bacon in the egg then the flour and the breadcrumbs and fry over a medium heat and you have bacon schnitzel and serve with sweet mustard or riatta !

I use it to make egg & bacon pies , just slice it up and cook it ,make some pastry up ,put in foil trays (about 1 inch deep) and put in full eggs , cover with a pastry lid egg wash and bake . This cost fortune in eggs but well worth it, they dissapper really quick in our house

We buy this... it dies vary from pack to pack, sometimes you get a number of proper slices included and other times you get chunks of gammon or bacon. We use it for Quiches and Ham and Egg pies while it's also tasty enough for pasta dishes... especially if you don't get any slices. Incredible value and because it's the outside of bacon and gammon joints it has great flavour. We also use Home Bargains Ham off cuts which has a similar range of uses.

I bought another pack of this today. If you sort through the packs, you can often find one or two with only 3 or 4 pieces of bacon that are effectively bacon chops. I defat them, then simmer for a while in plain water to remove a lot of the salty nitrates and nitrites.

Rinse off from pot in cold water then Blanche in hot. I use the bigger thicker pieces like Gannon steals thinner bits cook like bacon. I've made lentil soup with larger bits of lots of the smaller fatty bits. We buy it often used to only be 72p in Tesco Best bag I bought I made boiled ham mash and cabbage ( for two) Bacon buggies three times for two pot of lentil soup with one very large piece. Used the rest to add to quiche ( 2). Soup have both of us three portions. Not bad for just under a pound now. We have been buying them for year in fact there's one in the fridge right now.

Around £1.97 for 1kg in Lidl. £1.70 for 907g in B&M, although you may find short date ones for 50p a pack. Tesco & Asda do 500g for 90p. Always good to have on hand.

That's why it's so cheap, it's been in the bucket of salty water for to long, best way to get salt out is to boil it with cabbage, the cabbage will draw out the salt out and the cabbage will taste amazing afterwards also as well as the bacon.

I've bought off cuts of bacon before. Aldi used to do a pack which was exactly like that, big but ugly bits of bacon/gammon, but really good in a sarnie. Bought some from Asda just once, like wafer thin ham style bacon. Shocking! Aldi's off cuts of cooked ham are usually pretty decent to.

Nitrites and nitrates are two preservatives anyway, so you were right both ways, you might have consider them just a single thing instead of two different preservatives. I would recommend boiling it first to remove salt/white gunk/preservatives and since its raw pork meat and its the buts of the bacon that can't be cut into nice rashers, you want to have it proper cut for safety. After that just do whatever, fry it and eat it in a bun, cut it into lardons and make a filling for a pie, add it to sauces as a meat-base for like carbonara, mince it and add tomato and mushrooms for a bacon-tomato sauce. The options are endless! It might look disgusting at start but its the same as buying a whole chicken and cut it at home for multiple recipes when you think about it. And if you prepare it in bulk, cut the fat out and render the bacon, you can have crispy bacon and bacon lard that you can then use for other things!

This brings back sweet savoury memories. I used to get my 'bacon misshapes' from my local Lidl. I would always open the whole pack into a sink full of cold water. Then separate the pieces and put into a plastic and sealable container. This would be kept in the fridge. I would use it all up over a few days. A large glass dish was used and the bacon roasted in the oven until crispy. A delicious smell would fill the kitchen. Spot On !

Before I watch the video I'd just like to mention the sell by dates in Lidl this morning. In the cold meats section there were two boxes of Italian Prosciutto Cotto ham that were two days past the sell by date. The box at the front of the shelf was well within date. Don't the dates get checked semi automatically nowadays? A shop receives a delivery and somewhere on the docket it must show the sell by date. Then at the till an item is rung up and the computer knows, or should know, that the item was from this batch with this docket. Two boxes at 10 packs of ham in each, we're talking about a food wastage of almost £40.

The bacon or gammon looks tasty and for that price it's a no-brainer. However, I am only cooking for one, so large packs like this one are not really suitable for me. Of course you could freeze some, but my experience of freezing bacon, then thawing it several weeks later is that a distinctive boar taint may be apparent, which is unpleasant to eat. This arises as a result of uncastrated male pigs being slaughtered. Aldi sells ham trimmings 400g for £2.49 and it's really nice ham.

I cut the pack in half with a sharp knife, cast iron casserole pot on the stove on high, sear all sides then lower stove to low, half a jar of pickled beetroot (and vinegar) simmer for a half hour, 2 days lush meat , 🤤

I've been buying cooking bacon/gammon packs for some time now. You get some cracking pieces. We like it with new potatoes and a veg. My only gripe is that it's hard to find British pork. I rebag the meat once I've opened the packs.

My Nan used to buy bacon "bits" and she'd make bacon pudding with a suet crust she was a widow with 8 kids five of which were boys formidable woman but so gentle as we're her kids largely bearing in mind it was just post war even in her later years she would make bacon puddings and take them whenever she visited her grandkids ( luckily she lived with my parents so my brother and I got royally spoilt 😊😊😊)...
