If you leave the salt in, the grease will eventually get moldy. It is easy to wash and get pure white lard to use in places you do not want bacon flavor(baked goods, pie crust, ect.). Use a wide mouth straight sided glass jar. Add 1/3 liquid grease, 1/3 hot water to the jar and stir well, then refrigerate till the grease is solid. Drain the water, remove the lard, scrape any grayish or other surface contamination off of the solid lard. Replace lard in the jar and melt to liquid by placing in a shallow pan of hot water. Repeat the above process as many times as needed until the lard no longer tastes salty(3 times is usually enough). You now have pure lard. You can use the same procedure to purify beef tallow for soap making. Mom knew all sorts of depression era household tricks of using everything and waste nothing.

As a kid, in the late '50s and '60s, mom _always_ had a container of bacon grease in the refrigerator. Our container was smaller than the one you show, but it did have a strainer on the top, too. Mom would dump the bacon grease in. Every time we fried _anything_ we'd dip into the (in our case, refrigerated) bacon grease container, get a healthy scoop, and drop it in the pan, and off we go!

I've got lots of fats that I save .. hate to throw them out. But do they need to store in the fridge? I've got more counter space (or cupboard space) than fridge space, and it's a lot easier to scoop room-temperature fats than fridge-temp fats. I'm pretty sure you shouldn't need to refrigerate them .. but any thoughts?

Some very heavy people easily loose 100 lbs in 6 months. You convert your body to burn fat because you don’t eat many carbs, so the fat on your body gets used. Vegan diets usually end up loosing muscle protein for most of their weight loss.

that is because the bacon is steam cooked from it's own moisture (from within the meat), as well is being finished off with the frying. The liquid at the beginning of cooking contains a lot of water... which eventually evaporates as the lid is lifted several times... the remaining bacon grease fries it. So as the bacon is generally cooked already from the moisture content, the frying time is a lot less, and a lot less mess in the pot.

I start mine out with melting a pound of bacon grease from the previous batch in the pot. Use medium heat until the water cooks off then low heat until the bacon is at the “swinging” stage. Don’t filter the grease. Just put it melted into a container and refrigerate it till solid then remove it from the container, flip it over and scrape all the brown crumbles from the bottom and save it to flavor other dishes.

That's a cool way of cooking Bakon. I have been cooking Bakon in a black iron Dutch oven for years. I open the package and dump it in the Dutch oven on low heat. come back a while later the grease is coming out of the Bakon. I then give it a stir to separate the pieces turn the heat up a bit, and come back when well browned. Also, the oven does well. Just put bacon into a small baking pan laid out in single layers. Place in a cold oven and set the oven to 350. In my oven, the Bacon is well browned by the time the oven reaches 350. if not, it won't be much longer. I enjoyed your method. I just don't have all that much money to spend. Saving that bacon grease is a lot cheaper too.

I have cooked my bacon this way for years, it's so much easier than the traditional way, I love the way it comes out. Alternatively, I sometimes cook it in the oven on parchment paper if I'm doing something else on the stove top.

This is a good way to cook bacon I have started cooking mine in my oven on cookie sheets. I bake on 425 for approx 20-25 min, I don't even turn it any more, realized I didn't need to. A tip for people is we cook a whole pkg like 2 lbs at a time and store whatever we don't eat in the freezer that way all we have to do is pull it out and heat for another meal. Bacon freezes beautifully. If I have a recipe that calls for bacon I don't have to cook some , it's always on hand. I keep telling myself I'm going to cook up about 5 lbs one day and freeze because we go thru it so fast.

Oh, cooking bacon in a pot - that sounds intriguing! Dr. Ken Berry's method must bring out a unique texture and flavor to the bacon. It's always exciting to see different cooking techniques, especially for something as universally loved as bacon. The carnivore and animal-based tags suggest a focus on meat-centric diets, which have been gaining popularity for their health benefits and simplicity. It's great to see people experimenting and finding new ways to enjoy their favorite foods! 🥓🍳✨

Been using the micro wave for the last 60 years.. in a glass casserole pot with lid and when feeding 8 people.. best way to do or stove top...used a 5lb box of slices.. in last few years have taken 10 lbs of pork loin back and done in oven on aluminum sheets and takes only a few minutes per pan to par cook...cool down drain and bag in snack bags and freeze ... have them ready to microwave and make sandwiches or for other uses... NO mess cooking and shortens time of things like bacon ..sautéed onions done in Dutch oven... 4bags of onions gives 36 snack bags .. less spoilage waste...

I'm sure some have said this previously, but when cooking bacon this way over a gas stove, remember that the "moisture" on the inside of the lid when you take it off to stir it is bacon grease. When that comes into contact with the open flame of the burner (not recommended), amazing and ugly things can happen. Be very careful. That being said, I cook mine just like they showed here and it works perfectly.

I absolutely recommend getting a set of Silicone Spatulas also to add to the others. Perfect as you'll be able to get everything bacon liquid and bits as it bends and forms to the side out of that pot whereas the wooden or nylon spatulas/spoons will struggle when pouring out into the container. This will likely be my new method going forward for crispy bacon as obviously splashing can be an issue, my only worry later was the water but it everything looks good and evaporates later anyways.

Similar to how I cook bacon camping in thin cookware. It's "boiled" bacon. I put a little water in, the water boils, bacon starts to make grease, water boils away and you have samething as this. In thin cooking utensils the water keeps it from sticking and burning till enough grease is made

It doesn't splatter because of the moisture (water/steam) that's produced when it starts cooking. Taking the lid off every three minutes lets the moisture out and in the end there is nothing but bacon grease left.

thanks for your video today, that looks like a very good method. I have been using the cookie trays in the oven with parchment paper under the bacon and it works well but leaves a lot of mess to clean after. I am going for your method in future, although the air-fryer also works with minimum clean up. I have done bacon in a cast iron pot similar to how you did this, but I ground up the bacon myself first and the result is crispy bacon-bits when it is done.

I’ve been cooking bacon in my pressure cooker for years. Cut in half, throw it in the pot, cook for 5 mins on sealing, release pressure, use a wooden spoon to separate the slices and stir occasionally until the bacon gets done the way you like it and remove it from the pot on to paper towels as it does. Simple. I taught my autistic son to cook it this way so he can cook it without getting spit at by the grease.

Thank you so much for the informative video. I recently started eating animal based and my health has improved immensely. Feels like a miracle since I was having to use motorized scooters to go shopping, just a few months ago. Now, many days I feel like I am in my 20's and have the mental clarity to actually live life and accomplish things. I did not have thick cut bacon and it seems to just shrivel up. Will have to try thick cut next time. Yours looks so much better. I was amazed how just a few minutes longer in the pot can really make it turn super crispy very quickly. Cooked up 3 pounds, 10 slices in the oven (that works well, just too little at a time, more tedious, more to clean up, yet was nice and flat), about 1.5lbs for first stove top batch (turned super crispy after a stir, thinking it needed some more time, will have to keep a better eye on it, again guessing because it's thin cut), and the third batch about another 1.5 lbs, cooking at the moment. Hope to stop the cooking at a better texture this time. Was able to stop the cooking at just the right time. It appears to continue to cook a little bit while draining and turned out perfect. You may find using a coffee filter in the mesh screen, of the bacon grease container, saves some clean up time. I used a mesh screen with a handle to let the bacon drain over the pot. It is the kind of strainer with little metal ears or prongs that lets it rest on the edge of the pot. Once it cooled and drained a bit, transferred the bacon to a storage container. Then used the same mesh screen with some paper towels as a filter to pour the bacon grease in to the storage container for that. Do not have to use a sheet pan, paper towels, and parchment paper as you had done. Plus more bacon grease is saved, in my opinion. Thanks again for the all the information. I hope I shared some information that you find helpful as I have found the information you shared extremely helpful.

It is an awesome cooktop. Very energy efficient too because it only uses energy to electrify the magnet which makes the electrons in the pan shake and get hot. So there is no waisted energy heating a metal spiral that transfers heat to the pan. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp-0f3WspbdpaM0si=hokEfLPrVtBI0Gd2
