If you leave the salt in, the grease will eventually get moldy. It is easy to wash and get pure white lard to use in places you do not want bacon flavor(baked goods, pie crust, ect.). Use a wide mouth straight sided glass jar. Add 1/3 liquid grease, 1/3 hot water to the jar and stir well, then refrigerate till the grease is solid. Drain the water, remove the lard, scrape any grayish or other surface contamination off of the solid lard. Replace lard in the jar and melt to liquid by placing in a shallow pan of hot water. Repeat the above process as many times as needed until the lard no longer tastes salty(3 times is usually enough). You now have pure lard. You can use the same procedure to purify beef tallow for soap making. Mom knew all sorts of depression era household tricks of using everything and waste nothing.

Hey 👋 First time watching y’all! Thank you sir for bringing us this video so people can watch and learn. I use my bacon fat for cooking stews, white rice, stewed rice with pigeon peas or chick peas, black eyed peas, or stewed rice with chicken thighs or pork. The flavor is truly out of this world! I also use bacon fat to sauté my herbs and veggies! It’s endless! So in place of those 16:00 16:00 awful oils like canola which is a crime to even say the word let alone use that “UFO”, (unidentified fake oils), people start using bacon fat!

@@NuLiForm I've always cooked in olive oil as you don't get much grease from rashers of bacon. I'm thinking of buying a flank of bacon & slicing it just to get the bacon grease. I love my bacon, though I'm not fond of pork. It's too dry & quite tasteless without the apple sauce. What would be a good cut to get the most grease from. I don't have a smoker so can't have that flavour. We also have Manuka honey & I always have that in my cupboard. I haven't paid much attention to pork over the years. Living in a country with great cuts of beef I tend to stick with sirloin, Scotch fillet & eye fillet. When I buy my steaks, I buy the whole fillet. 😇 I get a good buy when an overseas order is cancelled. The best beef is what was to be exported to other countries & cancelled. I don't mind spending $150+ for a hunk of quality meat. I can cut the steaks to my required thickness. Countries always sell the best they have for profit, I saw another good buy today, but I still have steaks in my freezer I need to use up. Even here in NZ we have Canola oil on our supermarket shelves. How stupid is that?

@lisacunningham8687 Great tips and we love hearing from people in other countries. It is a shame that they try to sell canola oil everywhere. I'm a new sub today. I hate to fry bacon, so at 76, I've been buying bacon already cooked. It costs a fortune, so I rarely eat bacon anymore, which brings me to tears. i have always been overweight, and from 2000 to 2022, after a fall injuring both legs and knees, I was sedentary and ate myself to 400 pounds. in 2022 I had ENOUGH! I went on a 1200 calorie diet, and as of today, I weigh 205. Losing 195 pounds. I eat whatever I want, just writing and logging and never going over 1200 calories. in 2020 I went on Keto for 3 months and lost 70 pounds. All my test from my doctor went to perfect at my new 330 pounds. But with Covid, I couldn't find meat, bacon any vegetables or eggs. Our stores shut down. I was forced to eat any regular foods I could get. In a short time I gained it all back to 400 pounds. I don't get much money for food so if I wanted to go to Keto or try Carnivore, I'd never be able to afford it now on SS and a tiny pension. So I eat anything I can get or things on sale, or even cheat types of foods, but not a calorie over 1200. My stomach has shrunk and happy with all my 200 pounds less of flappy extra skin and my Lymphedema in my upper inside thighs. I want to browse through your videos and see what I like. I am very short of money in these times, so I can"t afford to buy any extras
@AnimalBasedInYourFace5 ай бұрын
Well congratulations on trying to be healthier and find a way to loose weight. Covid changed a lot of things unfortunately. Very proud of you for jumping back on the wagon and pursuing a healthy life again. It would also be beneficial for you to get off of sugar, gluten (wheat or corn) and seed oils (vegetable, canola oil, peanut oil, sunflower oil, etc.) You will feel amazing and aches and pains will go away for the most part. You will also have more energy because all those slowly poison you. Plants and vegetables also poison you with what is called oxalates and a few other chemicals that are naturally produced in most plants and leaves as their defense mechanisms. These oxalates cause arthritic and joint type problems similar to gout in everyone. Your body can only get rid of so many per day and for example, just a bowl of spinach for a salad is about 10 times what your body can get rid of. So your body stores these oxalates in your joints and fatty tissue. They are foreign substance so they cause inflammation in your body. On the price of food, you should try eating meats and unsweet fruit like squash or zucchini. You can do a lot with hamburger and you get a lot of very valuable calories out of eating hamburger over whatever’s cheapest on sale that week of processed foods. You’re on the right track for eating 1200 cal a day will help you lose weight, just make those 1200 cal good calories quality calories that have lots of vitamins and protein like meat. When you don’t buy all of the extra foods that we normally throw in the garbage because it goes bad you save money. And a lot of people think that they’re saving money by buying a box of cereal and a gallon of milk. This will get you five or six breakfasts but for the same price as that box of cereal and gallon of milk, you can buy an 18 count of eggs. Three or four eggs a day and you have about the same number of breakfast meals and a lot healthier. I know that sugary sweet cereal taste good, it was designed to be good and addictive so you buy it again. Thank you for your comments and experiences. We wish you all the best on your journey. Keep us informed of how you do. Thank you.

If all anyone buys and eats is beef, butter, bacon, and eggs they should end up paying less for food in the long run. Ground beef can be bought in bulk or on sale to make it more economical. Having at least a small 5 cubic foot freezer is the way to go. If you wish to eat t-bones, ribeyes, and New York strips, only buy them when on sale instore and with the digital coupons on a store App. Not buying all the vegetables, fruits, frozen dinners, cereals, pasta, cookies, ice cream, candy bars, brownies, pastries, frostings, cake mixes, puddings, cheesecake, candies, chips, soft drinks/gatorades/energy drinks, "heart healthy" vegetable oil, and bottled condiments and sauces really makes a difference moneywise. Stick to nutrient dense foods instead of highly processed food-like substances. If the animal was healthy the food obtained from the animal will be healthy for you which even includes vitamin C from ruminants and iodine from egg yolks. I do wonder though if eating only 1200 kcal a day if you are getting enough beneficial fats.

As a kid, in the late '50s and '60s, mom _always_ had a container of bacon grease in the refrigerator. Our container was smaller than the one you show, but it did have a strainer on the top, too. that is because the bacon is steam cooked from it's own moisture (from within the meat), as well is being finished off with the frying. The liquid at the beginning of cooking contains a lot of water... which eventually evaporates as the lid is lifted several times... the remaining bacon grease fries it. So as the bacon is generally cooked already from the moisture content, the frying time is a lot less, and a lot less mess in the pot.

I start mine out with melting a pound of bacon grease from the previous batch in the pot. Use medium heat until the water cooks off then low heat until the bacon is at the “swinging” stage. Don’t filter the grease. Just put it melted into a container and refrigerate it till solid then remove it from the container, flip it over and scrape all the brown crumbles from the bottom and save it to flavor other dishes.

That's a cool way of cooking Bakon. I have been cooking Bakon in a black iron Dutch oven for years. I open the package and dump it in the Dutch oven on low heat. come back a while later the grease is coming out of the Bakon. I then give it a stir to separate the pieces turn the heat up a bit, and come back when well browned. Also, the oven does well. Just put bacon into a small baking pan laid out in single layers. Place in a cold oven and set the oven to 350. In my oven, the Bacon is well browned by the time the oven reaches 350. if not, it won't be much longer. I enjoyed your method. I just don't have all that much money to spend. Saving that bacon grease is a lot cheaper too.

Been using the micro wave for the last 60 years.. in a glass casserole pot with lid and when feeding 8 people.. best way to do or stove top...used a 5lb box of slices.. in last few years have taken 10 lbs of pork loin back and done in oven on aluminum sheets and takes only a few minutes per pan to par cook...cool down drain and bag in snack bags and freeze ... have them ready to microwave and make sandwiches or for other uses... NO mess cooking and shortens time of things like bacon ..sautéed onions done in Dutch oven... 4bags of onions gives 36 snack bags .. less spoilage waste...

This is a good way to cook bacon I have started cooking mine in my oven on cookie sheets. I bake on 425 for approx 20-25 min, I don't even turn it any more, realized I didn't need to. A tip for people is we cook a whole pkg like 2 lbs at a time and store whatever we don't eat in the freezer that way all we have to do is pull it out and heat for another meal. Bacon freezes beautifully. If I have a recipe that calls for bacon I don't have to cook some , it's always on hand. I keep telling myself I'm going to cook up about 5 lbs one day and freeze because we go thru it so fast.

I’ve been cooking bacon in my pressure cooker for years. Cut in half, throw it in the pot, cook for 5 mins on sealing, release pressure, use a wooden spoon to separate the slices and stir occasionally until the bacon gets done the way you like it and remove it from the pot on to paper towels as it does. Simple. I taught my autistic son to cook it this way so he can cook it without getting spit at by the grease.

Thank you so much for the informative video. I recently started eating animal based and my health has improved immensely. Feels like a miracle since I was having to use motorized scooters to go shopping, just a few months ago. Now, many days I feel like I am in my 20's and have the mental clarity to actually live life and accomplish things. I did not have thick cut bacon and it seems to just shrivel up. Will have to try thick cut next time. Yours looks so much better. I was amazed how just a few minutes longer in the pot can really make it turn super crispy very quickly. Cooked up 3 pounds, 10 slices in the oven (that works well, just too little at a time, more tedious, more to clean up, yet was nice and flat), about 1.5lbs for first stove top batch (turned super crispy after a stir, thinking it needed some more time, will have to keep a better eye on it, again guessing because it's thin cut), and the third batch about another 1.5 lbs, cooking at the moment. Hope to stop the cooking at a better texture this time. Was able to stop the cooking at just the right time. It appears to continue to cook a little bit while draining and turned out perfect. You may find using a coffee filter in the mesh screen, of the bacon grease container, saves some clean up time. I used a mesh screen with a handle to let the bacon drain over the pot. It is the kind of strainer with little metal ears or prongs that lets it rest on the edge of the pot. Once it cooled and drained a bit, transferred the bacon to a storage container. Then used the same mesh screen with some paper towels as a filter to pour the bacon grease in to the storage container for that. Do not have to use a sheet pan, paper towels, and parchment paper as you had done. Plus more bacon grease is saved, in my opinion. Thanks again for the all the information. I hope I shared some information that you find helpful as I have found the information you shared extremely helpful.

I'm sure some have said this previously, but when cooking bacon this way over a gas stove, remember that the "moisture" on the inside of the lid when you take it off to stir it is bacon grease. When that comes into contact with the open flame of the burner (not recommended), amazing and ugly things can happen. Be very careful. That being said, I cook mine just like they showed here and it works perfectly.

Gee, you guys complement each other really well. Never seen paper (or whatever) it’s called under the cooking appliance. I’m guessing that cook top is an induction type. I’m new here, first video I’ve seen of yours and I immediately subscribed with bell clicked to all. As a carnivore of about 1.5 years I need to pick up my cooking game. I’m hoping this recipe will help encourage my SAD eating family. Gee it’s hard been a Lone Ranger. Especially seeing the metabolic Disfunction getting worse, and on meds. So glad to not take any meds and hardly ever need to go to the Dr. I’m NEVER going back to how I was. It’s so empowering to be healthy after about 54 years of abuse (I’m 54;) When I started, I did my homework first, then decided to do: 3 months of strict Lion diet and not allow myself to change my mind until the end of the 3rd Month. The only additional thing I allowed was electrolytes which is absolutely essential, especially in the beginning. After the 3 month mark, at that point I did a combo Carnivore/Lion as I was so impressed with the results. Now I’m 88 kg, steady at that, but I was 156kg. The best part is not being hooked/a slave to those drugs. Click on my photo for before and after comparison. I actually think what I did was extreme, hence I wish I had converted over more slowly…I was thinking change one meal over in the first month (say breakfast as cereal is devils “food”), then 2nd month Lunch, finally on the 3rd month Dinner. Likely by the third month you won’t want dinner! I never eat 3 meals a day and alternate naturally between one and two. It’s so easy and I’m never hungry. My bloods are amazing and couldn’t care less about my LDL, as my research shows that once you remove the cause (inflammation), LDL is normal, in fact essential. I watch many YT Drs in this space. Looking forward to seeing what other goodies you guys come up with in your other videos. So many amazingly simple tips here-just need some of the cooking gear you have-love the Oggi. ❤ from 🇦🇺

First off congratulations! Your results are amazing. Scott had similar results first 2 months. We have researched and continue to research and learn. We made this channel after learning just how bad not only the standard American diet was, but even most low fat diets as well. Carnivore is strict and takes a lot of willpower. You did great! We figured out pretty quickly that moving in that direction more slowly was easier on the body and having a little more variety of foods was helpful making the change. We started researching recipes and testing to come up with the best tasting recipes we could find. Some of our recipes are carnivore and some are animal based. The animal based recipes will have more carbs, especially the ones that use maple syrup or honey, but you can always switch those out for Stevia or other natural no sugar sweeteners. Current research is suggesting that your body does need a few carbs per day basically less than 60 per day and 30 per meal to maintain insulin storage. This still keeps your body in a ketogenic state and you still get all of the benefits of carnivore to your health. So glad you found us and your story is inspiring! Thank you!

I absolutely recommend getting a set of Silicone Spatulas also to add to the others. Perfect as you'll be able to get everything bacon liquid and bits as it bends and forms to the side out of that pot whereas the wooden or nylon spatulas/spoons will struggle when pouring out into the container. This will likely be my new method going forward for crispy bacon as obviously splashing can be an issue, my only worry later was the water but it everything looks good and evaporates later anyways.

I tried last night after your other video and it was a failure as most of the bacon was burnt and had to be thrown away. I realize now the problem was wrong pot ( a stainless steel one) and too high of a temperature. Going to try again because my old method of baking the bacon is a lot of work

Yes every pot is different and you have to turn the bacon every 3 minutes or so. Stainless is very bad to stick and burn. We did it in a SS pot and an instant pot which is SS. Both burned on bottom and had to clean that mess up, which we have videos of both on our channel. The bacon didn’t burn but had to be cooked on a lower heat and turned about every 3 minutes. Also if you have leftover saved bacon grease you can add it to the SS pot and heat before you add your bacon and this helps.

Reminds me of living on my mothers home farm. We butchered hogs, put up vegetables in jars and put a lot in freezers. We also used bacon grease and grease from killing hogs for homemade bread and biscuits, pie shells, etc. wonderful days. Thank you for carrying me back to my childhood. Linda

Even with all the supposedly “safe” coatings, I am still leery of using any of the non-stick cookware. All of my cast iron and carbon steel are from Lodge and I have some tall stainless pots for when I’m making big batches of chili, beans, etc.…….I do not use aluminum. I am searching for a dedicated pot to use for cooking bulk amounts of bacon as shown here and am still learning about these ceramic coatings. In the interim, can anyone tell me how the enameled cast iron does for this task? 🤔

We have been researching the same thing and have t decided yet either. We have been looking for a cast iron Dutch oven type and I see Lodge makes these in enameled.

@@AnimalBasedInYourFace If they prove satisfactory, and since I currently own over 30 pieces of their product, the Lodge enameled would be my first choice. I will be standing by here if anyone has some feedback from using them. 🫡

I have been making my Dr Berry bacon in a Lodge 4.5 Qt Dutch oven (ceramic coated) and it works Great! It definitely cooks more evenly then a lighter weight pot. I do not use the Lodge lid but prefer a glass lid that actually goes to a different pot, so that I can see how the bacon is cooking without lifting the lid. I also strain my bacon using a silicone strainer. I scoop up all the bacon into the strainer and let it drip back into the pot. Also let’s the grease cool a bit before I strain and save the grease. Great video with great tips! Just subscribed!

Marshall’s Home Goods and TJMaxx almost always have Lodge Dutch Ovens at a great price! I also have the 6 Qt Lodge DO but it is VERY heavy and really to big. The 4.5 DO is perfect and I always cook 2 lbs at a time. Enjoy your bacon!

Using silicone tipped tongs also works great to rotate the cooking bacon. I have also found that putting a couple of table spoons of lard in the pot to get hot before putting the bacon in helps to get the cooking started sooner and the results have been great....crispy bacon that isn't burned. Carni-life rules!

I use metal silicone tipped tongs and they're great.

Thanks for the bacon tip looks like your bacon came out great !! Looks to be a much better method than using a frying pan . And usually a frying pan needs to be baby sit + tears it up flipping the bacon+ some of the pans surfaces seem to get hotter than others Much Appreciated I did subscribe and hit that notifications bell Look forward to many more I’m glad I found your channel Thanks again

Thank you for watching and subscribing! Be sure and turn or flip the bacon occasionally. It cooks great in its own fat.

Well thank you Sir! I appreciate the kind words. Check out some of our other videos on our channel and We will be making more videos soon. We try to do 1 or 2 a week. The pot we use is linked in our description below the video. They have a 6.5 qt and an 8qt. We have had ours 4 years and it still looks brand new. We use it every week. Take care my friend.
