@@lordbrom6718 yes but Preussen (as addressed in the video) gets significantly better pen (across the board, 50mm more at 16km), alpha by 2k, 30mm overmatch, and 3 seconds faster base reload. I think its a fair trade, if you're talking about comparing Schlieffen main guns vs Preussen's that is. Schlieffen's main guns can be really inconsistent at times too.

Thunderer is what the British tech line should have been, a line which had big guns to tier 6 and became accurate guns at tier 7 and 8, and then becomes a bulk barrels fire farm? On the KGV if they'd gone for the fast reload, high velocity and historical armour, it wouldn't have to be a HE fire starter, but wargaming in their infinite wisdom created a ling with multiple personalities.

I've always wondered why it is so squishy in game when it was one of the best armoured bbs in ww2 if I remember correctly. Is this true and how have they butchered it so much?

@@dannymcneil341 So there's several reasons why British BB's suffer. Firstly, the Queen Anne's Mansion or that enormous superstructure. It's incredibly practical in real life, and is why modern warships have such pronounced superstructures, it holds operations and all the electronic warfare gadgets like Radar, which weigh a ton, better than any mast. In game? It's a damage pinata. Secondly, freeboard, or the amount it sticks out of the water. The ships sit higher as they were designed with real world conditions in mind, such as the North and Arctic seas, where they successfully operate and indeed sunk Scharnhorst in the midst of an arctic gale. But since weather has no effect in game, paper navies like the Russian one can envisage zero freeboard, removing this massive target from citadel view. Thirdly and most importantly, the only battleship in World War Two to have more armour than the KGV was the Yamato, and post-war, the Vanguard. Also, British armour plate was basically the best in the world, equal alongside the Germans as the two used the same manufacturing process involving high nickle- steel, the US and Japan came close but just couldn't match it, and not only was it thicker than their contemporaries, it was better quality wise. In game however I think you can tell she (KGV/Duke of York) cannot take a hit like Yamato, or even an Iowa or North Carolina. The Prince of Wales as we all know was sunk, but that's a special scenario, as the torpedo hit which got her took out the prop-shaft mount, and the propeller without support ran crazy and tore out the side of the ship. It was as fluke a shot as the one that hit Bismarck's rudder. So yeah, Wargaming must have decided that making a tanky battleship with amour like a Yamato in Tier 7 was OP, despite 14" guns which behave nothing like the real 14" guns (they were not as accurate as grapeshot like the game portrays, they had excellent accuracy and penetration in fact, punching through Bismarck's armoured belt even at long range) because, uh, balance.

I have a sneaking suspicion ships like peteo and kremlin would weigh an ubsurd amount once you calculate the weight of armour. Even slight increases ro deck armour have a huge impact on displacement. Do you know if the overwatch mechanic has any basis in real life? More specifically why 14.3, or is this just completely random

@@dannymcneil341 overmatch is very real, but mechanically different to how the game portrays it. The punishing power of a shell is mass x (velocity squared) and amplified by the Krupp factor, the amount of explosive charge in the bursting charge etc. In real life Kremlin would sit really low in the water, and risk capsizing in even mild weather, as portrayed by the model in the game. Instead of a stable gun platform like British and US ships, you'd have a surface ship trying to join the Russian submarine arm. As for their guns, the British and US preferred a much lower muzzle velocity for their shells, lower speed preserves the barrel life. The Russian BB's as designed would be a disaster, needing constant barrel re-sleeving due to the wear from the high speed shells, and they likely would have terrible accuracy as they deform from heat during firing. A good way to look at it is that British and US engineers almost always made the plans on paper behave as good or better in real life, whist the Axis powers compensated for their shortcomings by increasing their displacement, making ships like Bismarck which outmasses a North Carolina, but has less effective armour, less main guns, no dual purpose secondaries, less speed and less AA. Soviet ships were worst of all, if you follow what little they did make in the destroyer and cruiser department, they almost all had to go immediately back into the dock on completion for major reworks, some being so bad they couldn't go above a certain speed without literally snapping. A good example of this in-game would be something like Molotov, as designed in real life: game stats. Reality? firing rate lower than battleships and fatigue on the hull from stresses due to her light construction. This was known, and yet her in-game performance was still based on paper. Khabarovsk, the tier 10 DD, once best ship in game, it was physically impossible to build, which is why it remained unbuilt in real life.

I'm just so sad about the Colombo, such an interesting ship but just hard to get into a situation where it actually works. If the British line flavor is DoT damage, then the Italian flavor is being bad.

It's not hard to get into a situation where it works. The range is workable with the ability to use spotter from time to time, at least to me the SAP is very easy to get good results with, and creating effective crossfires is easier than with AP. That of course is a strength that is a bit teamplay reliant, and sometimes the enemies might choose to nose in to you instead of trying to maintain adequate angle to everyone, which means that you don't get to do jack shit while the friendly BB hopefully nukes them. But overall, the +20k SAP salvoes that Flolo spoke of are not nearly as rare as he said, with proper positioning it's quite easy to get them very reliably unless the target is a Kremlin or GK. Or Petro, because that floating potato chip doesn't have a freeboard and the deck bounces the SAP.

@@connorPiper0 SAP. Did you even read my comment, it's SAP. With AP you have to get an enemy ship to quite a big angle between you and a friendly BB (or other AP ship) for the enemy to not be able to angle against you both. Let's for example use the autobounce angle ranges to put a number on how big of an agle you need for 2 crossfiring ships, that would be 60° - 90° for standard AP. If one of the crossfiring ships has SAP, the equivalent effectiveness to the mentioned angle range would be achieved at 40° - 65°. That is way easier to pull off even without the enemy ship overextending. And for two SAP BB's the equivalent angle range is 20° - 40°. It's practically impossible to angle against two enemy Colombos who bother to separate themselves even a bit. So effective crossfire is way easier to obtain than with Montana, for example. Of course, when you do get a good crossfire, Montana can smash as well or better than a Colombo, but before that point Colombo could already either have dealt a ton of damage, or forced the enemy to either show too much side to a friendly BB or go away.

An extra point about Shikishima, that helps it stand out from Yamato: in terms of main battery power, they are actually quite similar. The DPM is almost equal, as is penetration, flight time, firing angles, sigma, etc. However, there is a catch: Shikishima's dispersion is better due to, much like Thunderer, having a Legendary Mod baked in. Shikishima's dispersion is Yamato's dispersion multiplied by 0.93, the exact same bonus Main Battery Director System gives to Yamato. And since it is baked in, you don't need to choose between Main Battery Modification 3 and Main Battery Director System. Oh, and you also don't get the -13% turret turning penalty from Main Battery Director System in Shikishima. It is a win-win. So Shikishima's advantage is being a Yamato with two Slot 6 for Upgrades. On top of better AA (for what it is worth) and secondaries.

Bourgogne is a very strong A which will go into S+ mode every time the MBRB is up. Also you forgot to mention the speed. With Brisk it goes up to 42kts iirc which is absolutely hilarious when you can position yourself faster than some DDs in the game while carrying immense on demand firepower around.

Yeah, thanks for pointing out the Vermont AP shot trap in the deck / base superstructure area, it's comedic as hell for bagging more Penetration damage with AP shells. Also, the new US Standard BBs Kansas thru Vermont, are a lot easier to Citadel than the older Standards like Colorado, New Mexico, etc.

Very true. The 15 inchers on the Burger are a delight. The he is good and the AP for its gun caliber is disgusting. And while yes it does have french armor and has a small health pool that armor can be incredibly effective. The ship is almost never citadelled and as long as you are not fighting he farmers, thunderers or Yammys yoru armor holds up veyr well.

What I like to do is start the match shooting HE at unsuspecting BBs starting to move and getting 2x fires every salvo. Works great and they have to turn around or get smashed by my AP in the follow up, since they often forget about my range

Imo, for a ship to be able to go to tier S, she needs to have zero weaknesses. Which isnt the case of Bourgogne. Yamato, Shikishima, Des moines and Salem absolutely dumpster her and theres is not a much she can do about it. Bourgogne belongs to A.

Its guns cannot pen the 32 mil deck of Burger and Burger is a DPM machine it can simply sit at long range and thorw HE at schleifen until it either 1 Burns to the ground,2 Runs away 3 Has all modules broken or 4 it goes broadside at which point reload booster slaps it.

The funny thing about Thunderer is that it was in testing alongside Ohio. Ohio originally had had the bullshit accuracy ( I think it maybe was something they carried over from Georgia) whilst Thunderer "only" had Warspite-dispersion, their solution when people pointed out that Ohio looked complete bullshit compared to Thunderer they just flipped the accuracy, Thunderer now having the BC dispersion and Ohio being given standard BB dispersion. Maybe I misremember since part of my memory is a big foggy but maybe Thunderer even initially kept the 30s reload of the old 457mm Conqueror guns, either way it's a classic example of overcompensation.

Flamu. Love your analysis. I think you may have mis spoken on Kremlin however. The Leg mod does, offer a considerable dispersion advantage. 280 x 210 without it, and 250 x 188 with it. Definately makes a difference. There is the loss in range (20.68 down to 18.20), but reload goes from 34.48 to 27.06. My numbers do not include capt skills. Just stock Krem, with and without Leg mod. What you have missed from Incomparable that it is very good at defending weak flanks kiting away. The side can bounce shells, the ship has a narrow profile so most shells miss, quick rudder shift means you can use all turrets and good torp angles too to spam back from both sides. Plus it is very resistant to fire thanks to super heal. Once I tanked 3.5mils potential damage in it. Incomparable is the most cruiser like BB IMHO, not Bourgogne.

@@fletch4813 It's fallen out of favor with many streamers because it's effectiveness has been eclipsed by every other T10 BB. It doesn't have overmatch or "Super Overmatch" and it's slow, the AA which was a selling point was nerfed along with all American AA to sell carriers. The Repub is faster, the Kremlin and GF/Pruessen are tougher, and it's AP is inferior to Slava and HE is laughed at by Conkers. However, it's the arcs that make it unique and make people underestimate it. You think you are safe hugging islands and you aren't even the least amount safe; that should not be underestimated, especially with the game flooded with Russian flat gun arcs.

Bourgogne is basically the ultimate battle cruiser. She plays like a super cruiser with no weaknesses. At max speed she is really hard to hit she can turn really quickly and her armor matches her speed and maneuverability. She has the ability to blindly probe front lines if you have an advantage she just dumpsters the poor bastards you push into. But if you run into the strong side and find there are 6 or more ships she can do a U turn in-front of all that and disengage and deal a lot of damage as she does and live to fight another day. Few ships are that forgiving.

Between the AA and the God like secondaries, Shiki really has does make up for some of its weaknesses. Built mine with a hybrid of secondaries and main battery reload. Personally I like to play her between 14-10km engagement range to make the most out of her secondaries and dpm, while at the same time staying out of close quarter situations that would show the weakness of the turret traverse and the armor scheme.

I wonder if new Vermont would place in A with its new heal and better overall maneuverability paired with its ability to blast anything into next century being able to close to 12.6km with 12 457mm guns letting it obliterate any ship it sees, even dds if you hit enough shells. I've 100-0'd countless hallands that think im an easy target to try and rush. A new Vermont allowed to get in close is one of the most terrifying ships to face for any class of ship. And it's still scary good at cross mapping ships even after the long range firing nerf it received. 1.95 sigma on 12 American 457's is still the best way to reliably delete almost anyone at any range.

I like Colombo and IMO it's actually a good ship. The SAP is just filthy when you get to right position, and very good just in general. Accuracy is shit, but it doesn't feel bad because of the shell volume, and honestly the ship would be OP if you gave these 16 guns even something like GK or even Bourgogne accuracy (oh yes Gruber K is actually more accurate than Burger BTW). As for dealing with DD's, SAP and AP actually aren't that bad. Italian 381 mm HE has 5100 alpha (quite average for 381 mm), which translates to 1683 damage on unsaturated, 842 to saturated parts, and 510 on modules. SAP has 12500 alpha, which is consistent 1250 damage no matter where you hit and how much HP the DD has. Yeah, it doesn't break modules or start fires, but in terms of raw damage output, it's comparable. And it's especially good against French DD's because their saturation doesn't matter. I recently finished a 9k HP Marceau in a single Colombo salvo at about 7 km, which probably would not have happened with HE.

It's a solid ship, especially in randoms. There are quite a lot of bad players that just can't make it work. Flamu in particular primarily uses AP on it and then wonders why he doesn't like it.

SAP does not deal the same damage no matter what. On saturated destroyer sections it deals half damage or zero when hitting modules. But this is just the same thing HE has to deal with. If I know a DD is not full HP or when it's later in the game I just keep AP for DDs in most BBs, same with Colombo. Other than that agree.

@@Spartaner627 You are a bit wrong right there. First of all, module hit damage has been changed, it now deals 1/10 damage instead of no damage, and that is for all shells. This also explains why you sometimes get AP full pens that deal overpen damage, those hits are on modules. Second, what you said only applies to cruiser and DD SAP, because those shells are able to deal pen damage on DD's, which of course is affected by saturation. BB SAP only deals 1/10 (so equal to overpen) damage on DD's, which is never affected by saturation, because 1/10 is the smallest non zero damage that any shell can deal in this game.

One interesting point of comparison between Montana and Ohio is that while Ohio's shells leave the barrel at a more leisurely pace, they don't slow down as hard as Montana's do at range.

Grosser Kurfurst is my only Tier 10. Part of that makes me sad, but the fun I've had brawling in her makes up for it.

Weird how the Slava has higher pen with only 29m/s more impact velocity and a very small mass compared so Shikishima. The lower caliber of the gun could maybe help a little but it shouldn’t be higher.

pff...when i hear the stuff about the Thunderer, I start to weep, because the one I got seems to be broken. I get the WORST mm (teamwise-and i am not joking here. I got wows monitor only to verify this particular iissue) and maybe one fire every third salvo. And ofc when i play against one it is as described by Flamu^^

about the slava 16:15 , from a military technilogy prespective, they could be using APFSDS rounds for this ship, idk if apfsds shells were a thing back then but i think it is posible to manufacture such shells, thats my theory and these are the soviets so expect crazy ideas

About secondaries: it would be interesting if the main WoWs game had manually aimed secondaries, being able to toggle from automatic to manual firing and aiming like in Blitz. It allows for a kind of double salvo and firing in between main battery reloads to any targets approaching (even more effective against dds) maybe it would make BBs stronger (basically un approachable if the driver can aim and has some basic awareness) maybe upsetting the game balance a bit.

Nah, with the huge fucking imbalance with cv's, i think this would be a healthy addition to a battleship's arsenal. Maybe they could even aim their secondaries at planes like in real life.

I appreciate you placing of Krem. It situational. The gun range is kind of short for T10, if the opportunity presents, it is unbeatable. Yet, in present meta, more often that not, you have to get to close and get burn up and shot to pieces. Yammy hits hard at any range, is far better in Random.

@@BSoDexe Nah, she feels way to sluggish to play to imo Sure the Rudder Shift is pretty fast but the Speed and Acceleration is not great, it somewhat feels like Nelson. Concealment is nice, but nothing to crazy and the Armor is just Paper. The Ship is all about the Guns and it shares the same attitude that Stalingrad has. And yeah, Colombo is really decent. Had much fun on Lepanto and Andrea aswell, only the T7 and T8 where pretty awful imo

1:07:56 It's funny actually, yesterday I played my Thunderer for the first time in forever and I did basically all AP and I managed about 70k damage and went through all my heals. The dispersion was absolutely trolling the shit out of me. I had a broadside Worcester at 12km, aimed at the waterline and got zero hits..... broadside Hipper at 13km, 3 overpens! I wish I'd have recorded the game because honestly the shells didnt seems to be as tight as I remember them to be. I must of had the drunken crew or something... 🤣🤣🤣

When you're good like Flamu, your citadel isn't a big issue because you don't show it. As such, a protected citadel is not much of an advantage either. A though citadel is an advantage for a trash player mostly.

@@dzello which is easily counterable by most BB players, you definitely aren't hitting the Citadel, but you definitely are going to pen the hull, just shoot and see how much dmg you can roll, US SHS AP especially since they're the epitomy of the "I don't give a fuck about your armor, I'm still going to Roll +15K in dmg Minimum"

Bourgogne is so close to S tier, Amazing ship but what you point out is correct. It's becoming under classed with all these new OP large calibre ships that not only have large guns but much more HP. Player skill is more critical in her rather than just sniping and taking hits like a Yammy. If they keep making OP ships maybe they can give us a super ship version, 450 guns and an extra 20k health. ;)

Thunderer is the ship that had me raging the most probably. my first Tier 10 was curry and i faced 2 thunderers in every single game. they shit on me and i burn down within 2 minutes. and i don't even hit them with my main guns.

A+ or even S But it requires skills such as aiming (slow shells), positioning (cause large hangar eating quite a lot of damage) and rocket plane aiming.
