To win games as DDs nowadays, you usually need to be able to kill DDs AND have DPM to influence the game when you get zoned out by radar, CVs, subs and the yoloing Schlieffen. Pretty much matches the tier list.

I feel Flamu heavily underrates ballistics, except for the random cases where he doesn't. At 9:26 someone in chat says Sherman has the same HE DPM as Gearing, and Flamu brings up the ballistic advantage, not to mention the SAP DPM. Yet then discussing ships like Alvaro de Bazan, he says it does no damage, yet it has higher sustained HE DPM than Kleber. Like yeah, it doesn't have as much raw gunpower like something like a Daring, but you go try and hit a DD or cruiser outside 8-9km and the effective DPM will be closer, or even have Alvaro de Bazan overtake. It's why ships like Gdansk and Sherman are so devastating, excellent raw DPM and good ballistics to boot. I'd move Marceau down to A just because of how absolutely terrible its ballistics are, it just gets zoned so hard by cruisers with any decent shell velocity. Kleber has the ballistics to effectively farm cruisers, or opt to run AFT to comfortably farm from out of effective range, so that's a deserved S. Delny is literally an uptiered Tashkent, so that's a deserved D tier. AvB has a discount reload booster, just one that it prefers to close fights with instead of opening, so it can pump out a surprising amount of damage. I say it deserves B tier. If Elbing can fit as a weak C because it's more of a cruiser than a DD, existing just to farm damage, then Khaba should at least be a similarly weak C since it does the same thing.

I must say i had the same opinion with Regolo, but after the buffs where you can slot the smoke mod and range mod on her you get a pretty comfy farmer with 52 seconds smoke duration and 13.5km range. I recommend you experiment with that set up and see a bit more. In general I would love to see more Tier A-B dd gameplay that are never seen these days.

Objectively I can't disagree with you on Gearing, but I think the secret sauce to making it decent in today's meta is using the 10.5 km torps and going full torpedo boat with it. You can get the torp reload down to something like 70 seconds, which allows you to spam salvos out and do a lot of damage against bigger ships (and catch a lot of enemy DDs by surprise). Definitely needs a survivability buff though.

I run a radar YY and look at the pre-match line up for smoke dds, they are my prey. Anything else is a threat, in particular Lushun. Nasty guns!

Had a great time in Marceau/Kleber. Building in speed and accuracy..jet skiing,run n gun,kite n flight mode,and you can annoy a whole flank if you keep moving. But..make no mistake about it.. French dont cap Directly imoo. Once youre spotted,the whole entire enemy team tries to get your ass

@us0076 Thats great if you dont run into Sherman, Friesland, Vampire 2 and so on. They can smoke up and just farm half of your HP until you can see them. And also their team can kill you cos you are spotted and they are not. Shima will just torp you and go back, if you speed up and spot him he will smoke up. When you will be able to see him you will be too close to their ships. Also you can run to Smalland and it has more DPM than you, heals and will start shooting first cos outspot you easy. I also killed Marceau in Lushun cos yeah he has better DPM but you have super heal and hydro. I also killed kleber with z-52 smoke/hydro combo, yeah he killed me too with torps but it was just 1 vs 1 and he was spotted all the time so if I had some cruiser there he would be dead.

One underrated thing with -42 is that its AP arms on DDs so you typically get massive chunks off of them. Sadly, doesn't have improved angles.

If I made a tier list it would be very similar to yours, however I'd make some small changes. I'd add another tier above S or make an E tier, whatever but definitely would put Smaland, Gdánsk and Kléber above the rest. The single reason is because, the other DDs at S are capable of either farming bigger ships or killing DDs but not exactly both with high performance. Marceau problem is the shell arcs, she is good in DD duels, even better than Kléber due to concealment but the shell arcs can make farming some ships harder, plus Kléber gets some good AP performance on cruisers and the torpedos have a very long reload time. Sherman is too slow and despite having the smoke/hydro gimmick, any good radar ship is going to displace her hard, I really like my Sherman but building for range is necessary and she hates getting pushed by cruisers and BBs. Finally Ragnar problems are her being clunky and lack of torps, which forces her to play kitting or dodging shots, being careful about incoming cruiser volleys, plus the concealment can allow some fast DDs that are already kitting to just avoid her completely, she is better in competitive but in randoms with more ships to shot at her it can be annoying to play her. Smaland DPM is ridiculous and despite having only 8 torps, these reload fast and are fast as heck, Kléber has better yolo potential, better torpedo power when getting chased by BBs/cruisers and that powerful AP and Gdánsk smoke+radar+DPM combo is really powerful no matter the circumstances. I'd also swap Alvaro and Regolo places, imo Alvaro when played well can just dominate the DD duels, yeah she has poor performance in every area but the burst is an easy 10-13k on an enemy DD, specially when broadside which actually cuts most DDs HP if she can pen when the burst is used correctly, ending DD duels early. On the other side Regolo biggest flaw is that DDs can actually angle to SAP and unlike Sherman, that really hurts Regolo SAP DPM, plus there is also the smoke, it's a double edged sword because it reloads fast but it sucks when you want to leave smoke to spot or avoid radar and you are still constantly emitting it at full speed (Unlike Vampire II which past 1/2 Engine power she can continue spotting)

Agree with Regolo. Paired in a div with a low conceal DD I'd legitimately put it in S tier, best in the game at that specific role. 66 WR in 2 man div when i play with someone who mains a Yeuyang. Played solo it's like low C or even D tier, I'll straight up not play the ship ever when i solo

I really like your videos. You present good, accurate och interesting facts about ships and playstyle. Your analyzes and opinions feels for me mostly spot on. I would love to see you play and analyze Lüshun. I might think you would place it higher. Right played I think this ship can impact most games and turn tight games around. Great arcs, concealment and heal. With extra range on the guns, the arcs does that it's easier to land shells and not get hit that hard. With the "super"(?)heal you cen go dark if you need to heal up. You will get a lot of fires on ships and they will try to hit you and that saves other ships in the team. With right captain you get 20% reload buff if you get combat scout and then you can do real magic. Since I started to play it right (I think), I love it... @flamu

In my opinion shima still has it's strengths as a "gunboat" you can spot the big gunboats as long as you want if you play it correctly. Let your team shoot him and if he has like 30% health left you shoot him. And yes it's highly inconsistent because your team has to do the work

Grozovoi was my first tier X and is still my practical favorite ship because the playstyle is just what I like, but in the past year it feels dumpstered. I got both Marceau and Kleber and while they’re both a blast to play, both feel completely overshadowed by Sherman/Gdansk. I was working towards getting Druid but lost interest once the entry of Gdansk set in as well as getting close to heading off to College and realizing I don’t have the time. It pains me so much watching this company ruin their own masterpiece of a competitive multiplayer game

I'd put z42 at C, if you checked it has godawful firing angles, requiring 45 (as bad as mecklenburg) to use all of its guns, it loses like 2 of its 5 turrets if you try to kite properly.

I'd say the Z42 is overall balanced but it is a niche ship in my opinion, I've had terrible games and amazing games just depending on circumstances. Shooting a broadside gearing from 3 km with AP was hilarious. Trying to fight an angled khaba was actually a shock, could barely do any damage to him (bouncing AP and wasn't running IFHE)@@Joshua-fi4ji

They are very different ships, Marceau is very good against DDs and struggles to hit anything other than BBs at long range, Kleber is a long range HE spammer and has good AP against cruisers at medium range and against DDs if it's reload booster is on cooldown it gets dumpstered.

Kleber is probably better in comp, you need massive firepower in a short amount of time for killing enemy DDS or even light cruisers and Kleb reload booster burst potential is still better than Marceau insane DPM. Also Kleber torps are much better for yolo purposes, you need to rush and kill someone? You can. Marceau torps are more versatile but lack that quick punch. Marceau I'd say is a fantastic farmer in randoms and super strong in ranked ofc, but overall Kleber is better for comp. Btw I consider "comp" heavy team focused game modes like clan battles and tournaments, ranked used to be considered comp but isn't since a loooong time

It's way better than Gearing when it comes to guns, and it's better than Grozovoi and Harugumo too because it's not as clunky so it eats less damage and torps, and all you have to do to dumpster a Harugumo in a gunfight is just kite. Honestly I am not sure why he rates Harugumo so high, all it does is HE farm from smoke but then it blows up if anyone torps it's smoke.

IJN DD line needs a buff to make them competent in front of the new DDs. They get outclassed by soo many DDs and can't do much about it. At least the Shima line would do better with a buff.

There one problem with this tier list.... If some one 60% - he can win on Khaba or Shima becouse he know weak and strong sides of his ship, and enemy.... But some one with 45% will try hard and more likely loose on gdansk in smoke take a torp or when yolo rush for BB

Gearing also loses its engines if there's even a near-miss never mind a hit. And that's with preventive maintenance and engine room protection. I'm not sure those do anything on this ship. And it will happen at the worst possible time. That disqualifies it for me.

Shima still great ship and Gearing too. I would rather take that into random than some shit like Marceu who will just run before me spotted all the time and will be gone in 3 minutes doing 0 demage. Mostly the die so quickly you dont even know it is in the game. Yeah if its played by unicum in divison than ok but that way every dd is good.

Regolo is really strong, you just have to play it like General Subutai early game is spamming 13.5km fast reloading torps (invest in them) then hit and run DD's. It normally takes minimum 2 attack runs to kill a DD.

Yes please keep telling everyone Khaba is shit! People will believe you, and I love it when enemy DD just underestimates me and gets killed. But seriously, Khaba's biggest strength is that it is seen as crap. I've got frickin Hallands open up on me for no good reason at 7 km all the time (I guess they think their better gun DPM is going to win it), and they barely get a dent on me while they melt. The gun arcs are great with decent DPM, heal is great, and while in theory the 50 mm plate would be somewhat of a a trade-off, most enemies have no idea how to take advantage of it and I usually just end up taking way less damage than I should. The potential damage numbers I get with this ship are easily higher than on Kleber or Marceau, and it is noticeable in battle.

@@sozetsukokai9327 A boat is as good as the metagame allows it to be. If people like to start gunfights with you and lose, your perceived weakness makes your ship better. If the 50 mm plate makes your survivability better because people don't know how to deal with it, it is an upside. There are many ships that would be way worse if your enemies played perfectly, for example Slava works well only because all of the playerbase will never learn to not show broadside. Besides, I think the downsides of the Khaba plate are often heavily exaggerated. Most DD's don't have that much better AP damage over HE, and forcing them to use AP will lead to some overpens and bounces even if they choose their shells perfectly, so the plate is almost always an upside in DD fights, save for some exceptions like Elbing. Against BB's and superheavy cruisers, the plate is always an upside because their AP is hard coded to do overpen damage, but the plate can bounce shells occasionally. Cruisers are a bit trickier in the cases where they know how to hurt you, but angling properly will mitigate a lot of AP damage and make their shell choice hard (which also applies to playing agaist DD's), and I find I'm way more often mitigating damage by using the plate to my advantage than taking more damage. Some specific ships are again harder to deal with, like DM and Petro with their improved pen angles, and Hindenburg as it doesn't care about your plate when shooting HE and can do massive damage with AP when you can't angle enough. Mino kinda belongs to the pen angle group as well, but the plate doesn't really matter since Mino would full pen you even without it. Same goes for Venezia's SAP. The point is, like with many upsides, you have to use the plating right to take full advantage of it. Just ignoring it makes you take some unnecessary damage, but by using it right, you often come out on top.

You couldnt be any more wrong about the Khaba. Dude is a monster. I light randoms up with it all the time. It is so far from the bottom tier its stupid. Yeah it doesnt have torps but its a gun boat, and thats ok. Its fast, its got 8 130mm guns with range, and healing along with 26k hp. I dont know how you can put it on the bottom. Unless your just bad at shooting lol

I know its your list and your opinion, but Gdansk S tier? *IMHO* I always thought that ship is trash in randoms, 10s radar is nothing crazy good and most average joes have no Idea how to play that ship. In CBs that's a different story, Gdansk is a strong A at best.

I wanted to flame you for putting the khaba so low, then I saw on wows stats that the average damage for this ship is 56k. Like what? I have 111k average and I'm sure you could get a lot more out of it. But it seems for the average player this thing actually sucks.

disagree with your lushun ranking. in unicom, lushun is easy S tier. with 5.8 concealment, it easily kills anything has better concealment. and if you control your engagement well, it can out trade a smaland/marceau easily with 2-3 different fights and still have half hp left. also with it's concealment and hydro, it shits on subs too. sub have no chance to shotgun a good lushun player given they know how shotguning works on subs. however, given in potato's hand, lushun is just a worse neustrashimy. got worse conceal, worse torp, worse heal for 1 higher level and a bit higher dpm if they can actually hit something.😂

Bazan is an A if played right. Everything about it is ok. Nothing about it is actually bad. The torps and AP are above average, not amazing. The burst fire is what makes her powerful. Strong suprise damage to broadside cruisers, instant win in DD knife fight and setting fires on BBs quickly. If you don't play it around burst fire ambushes you're gimping yourself though. The access to burst fire makes it strong in ranked.

Too many DDs are way too strong and should be nerfed. The problem is that the majority of them are much more powerful than the almost majority of cruisers.

I kinda disagree with Hayate's ranking, with a few points specced into guns and HP i find it almost ties with a lot of gun fights against other gunboats. Its the only dd that isn't a full gunboat that i would actually engage a Sherman or Marceau or Gdanks in.

Klébstoff in the super category?! C'mon!!! Maybe in 60% unicum hands...occasionally! The ship depends very much on the team, cannot turn matches, cannot cap, nor torp so cannot deny freedem of movement of the enemy team really. U have to be spotted all match long by gunboating from safe distances. U rarely get to ambush DDs in real random battles. 5 minutes of constant gunning and hitting is worth of 2 shima torp hits of DMG! Being spotted from cruiser distances Klébstoff really just accupies the DD slot from the team, just like the FUK'd up german Felix. Speed is no longer a plus since everyone knows by now where to aim. The 7 secs reload is a joke, just like the AA. I always kill Klébstoff with my shima when confront, I use the 8km F3 torps. Shima guns are 6 sec reload and if Klébstoff is in cooldown he is screwed. And a nother thing: Klébstoff mostly farms enemy ships by burning and harrassing them, which can be healed back almost entirely, and you get Urself having 200k DMG dealt but no enemy killed. Which is not useful for the team! Sherman, Gdansk are a complete other league than FRA DDs. If U see the overall stats of the ship, U can see how mediocre it is.

Yep but he is that 60+% unicum...so thats why he has it in that list so high. For normal player its not so good.

Actually I have way more fun playing torpedo spammers over gunboats. Halland and Yueyang are my Tier X DD's of choice. Playing F.Sherman was the probably the most painful expirience in DD gameplay ever 😆 Under no circumstances would I put him on my S list.

again a personal rating for ship , khaba should be in tier A or B , everyone underestimate the khaba , its the best gunboat of the game , you can deal with absolutly all DD and BB , even cruiser . Khaba is an old ship and no one want play it because its not easy to play like a marceau or kleber when you only need to full speed and shoot or a shima who use the wall of skill. I dont understand why he put all the time ship that he dont like ( or he cant play well with it ) in C or D tier
