This short and impromptu video shows the internal components of a 48mm WP AER Damping Fork located on a 2017 KTM 450/250. Note that the valve stack in this video does not contain the stock shims.

I wish I had shot videos of the entire rebuild process using something other than a cell phone. Maybe next time.

Nice video, very clear. You might want to pick up the Race Tech Suspension Bible. It will help demystify the suspension. And now off to change the valving on my fork.... :-)

How did you remove the center rod from the cap?

Just a heads up. That wasn't the top out spring on your base valve/fork cap. The top out spring is the spring below the mid valve on the damper rod. I don't know what WP calls theirs, but what you called the top out spring, is what KYB calls their ICS spring. It's what allows the assembly to move as the damper rod takes up space, and still keep pressure on the fluid to prevent cavitation. Not being a hater. Just returning some knowledge for you. :)

Great video Jason 😎 when do you plan to be back on the track? Would love to meet up and ride with you in TX .

Thank you. It would be great to ride here in TX sometime. I go under the knife on Wednesday to do a rotator cuff repair on the right shoulder. My left shoulder has a torn labrum as well and I also have a broken wrist LOL. At this moment it looks like I would be blessed to be able to ride again by December.

Jason Brower oh wow , It seemed like you were ok again, but I forgot how hard you went down in that crash. Hope all goes well at the butcher shop. Definitely hope to ride with ya in December . Stay strong stay safe

Hi Seth, I didn't actually put new valving in although I almost had to because the pic that I had the valves on seemed like a handy tool to grab when I was tired and the valves went poof onto the floor! I managed to get it all back together. I really wanted to shoot full size video of the entire process but I was under the gun for time as I had rotator cuff surgery just last week and knew I couldn't turn wrenches for a while. I will try to video it all next time.
