Every state needs Mica Law. I was emotionally abused for 40years before I had the strength to leave. God helped me.

Amen praise God! I narrowly escaped with my life last September. Coercive control was their way to keep me. When I stood up for myself, they lied & manipulated. I'm trying to stay safe with my child but it's scary. When they didn't have their medicine, because they sold it, or when they used illicit substances, and I stood up to him, called him out, I was suddenly the bad guy because I "made him" act out physically on me. ❤️🩹

25 years here. I'm glad you were able to escape. Yes, this type of law should have been done decades ago. I think also if anyone is caught fabricating or abusing this law they should be thrown in prison as well. Because some do abuse the laws enforced now, this is why we don't get some of the support we deserve. To be clear, there are men out there that have been abused as well and there is almost nothing to help them. Although, I don't believe it on the same amount as women.

That's awesome! This is a law that should be nationwide. I fully believe that many states won't pass this type of bill simply because people in positions of authority (most frequently men) are often those who commit these offenses. Too many Law Enforcement Officers have these qualities, unfortunately. As a nurse, I've worked with nurses (one in particular ) who have been married to police officers that are extremely controlling and emotionally abusive. The gaslighting and threats can be highly traumatic, because it includes the understanding that it's your word against theirs, and the close community within the department is "we take care of our own". That's a very intimidating way to live. I hope Mica's Law gets the attention it deserves and is passed soon. I have been in this kind of coersive control relationship where it seems like there's no way out and no one will believe you. I was fortunate enough to work for a law firm prior to becoming a nurse, so I was able to get away unscathed. Too many women don't have that help and pay the ultimate price.

Coercive control laws have recently been introduced in Queensland Australia after Hannah Clarke and her 3 children were ultimately murdered by being burned to death by Hannah’s estranged husband in 2020. “Referred to as Hannah’s Law, the new legislation criminalises coercive control and incorporates both physical and non-physical forms of domestic and family violence. This is one of the many steps that has been undertaken by the Queensland Government in recent years to address domestic violence in our community. Queensland legislation defines coercive control as a pattern of abuse designed to hurt, intimidate and scare an intimate partner. It applies to both current and former relationships, and if found guilty, a perpetrator could face up to 14 years imprisonment”. I truly hope Mica’s law is similarly introduced.

@@duuuuude-oq3ob I don’t know if I understand your question. I’m talking about coercive control laws. The reasons why these laws may be enacted vary. The case that triggered it here is one that ultimately ended in murder. Mica’s case ended in suicide. @thinktwicethenthinkagain3 ай бұрын
So happy to hear that a temporary family settlement agreement was reached and an Order accepting it was signed by the Court. Hopefully that, coupled with the FBI conducting an investigation, will give Mica's family some relief. Many people have compared this to the Murdaugh investigation. This is also reminiscent of the 1996 disappearance of Anne Marie Fahey. She literally vanished and her body was never found. Her former married lover, Tom Capano, who was a wealthy, prominent, and politically connected former Delaware deputy attorney general, was the prime suspect. What made all the difference in an ostensibly hopeless investigation, was that the FBI, with its immense investigative powers, joined the investigation. There was very little physical evidence. Capano was an egomaniac who enlisted other people to assist him in the murder of Anne Marie, the disposal of her body, and the subsequent cover up of his crime. One such person was his other long time mistress. Another was his brother, who had a conscience and was tormented with guilt over helping Capano dispose of Anne Marie's body. If not for the involvement of the FBI, Capano might never have been brought to justice. He ended up being convicted of his "perfect crime," Anne Marie's m*rd*r, and he died in prison. Mica has become the worldwide face of DV. She will not be forgotten. God is in control. There will be #justiceformica. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Capano

Im about to cry... listening to her break down what coercive control in domestic violence is has made clear to me that i was abused by one of my ex's... He exerted control over me and i tried to break up with him so many times and tried to make him leave my home and he would refuse. He would take my keys and my phone and not allow me to leave my own apartment when he refused to leave. I was enraged but i was scared for my life on more than one occasion. He chose the wrong one. I would physically lash out by hitting him and then he would beat me. One night i was so terrified and enraged i hurt him badly. I took him to the hospita as he needed medical attentionl and he was ok. He used that incident to then move into my apartment the next day and we lived in hell for another year. He said that if i were to break up with him he would turn me in for hurting him. I didn't know at the time that he was holding me hostage by taking my keys and phone and physically preventing me from leaving. He was bigger than me 8 years older than me. I was only 24. He was my second boyfriend. I finally got him to leave by breaking my lease and telling him he had to find somewhere to go bc i was going to rehab. I am so so heartbroken for Mica but if I hadnt known about this case and watched this press conference i would continue to harbor the shame i have carried with me for the past 5 years. Last year he was posting about me obsessively and i had to make an entire new fb w a fake name and block him on it. My old fb had my deceased friend and dad as friends on there. 😢 Damn. God bless her soul and her family.

As far as I know that is a punishable offence slresdy, especially done in the way it was. Cyber bullying I think it is considered. He is guilty of so much!

Even if they are posted "anonymously" as JP did. It was reported online that the authorities couldn't take the post down because it couldn't be proven who posted the image "anonymously".

Absolutely!! This lady gave the best speech and voice for Mica and all abused that I have ever listened to! She in fact appears so well spoken and intelligent that I would vote her in as 2024 Presidential if the United States of America, America needs a strong woman such as she. She didn’t stumble she spoke it loud and clear and she spoke with clarity that she would not stop until it became law. Most of all she spoke with hurt and pain for Mica and all victims of Domestic Violence! Never have I listened to such a well informed Conference and one w it th such Confidence! She is far more than just an attorney in my opinion! Justice for Mica May she Rest In Peace. His rest her beautiful soul. 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Good gravy if this law were in place, JP would practically get the death penalty. What a sad state SC is for women. I really hope this doesn't go away and I pray the family has a case to sue the counties where crimes took place. Make this retroactive. JP will get his. The Lord takes vengeance on His enemies and those who shed innocent blood
