The next part of the WPL C34KM build.
Having got it into primer last time, this time its been sprayed with a base layer of rust coloured paint, then had two coats of hairspray applied. The top coat is then added over the top of that - the first coat being very light and dry, the second coat providing more normal coverage.
The video shows the whole process on the wheels - hairspray, top coat, chipping, washes, and then weathering and adding tyres.
If you are just interested in the hairspray weathering technique, you'll be all done by about the first 7 - 8 minutes.
The end of the video shows the first mock up with the body in paint - I've removed footage of spraying that just to try and keep the duration down, even so it barged past 20 minutes!

Hey Steve, really cool video sir! Not tried the hairspray technique but I think I will next time around. I suspect I would matt lacquer before the weathering washes, out of preference, so the top coat removal wasn't altered further. Tho obvs it all adds to the random nature of it. And yes it is odd weathering such beasts, after many years doing 1/48th, 1/35th etc. Spend ages working things and sit back, and see nothing haha. Looking forward to the end product, think that grey/green is proper. Keep it up! A

Cheers buddy! Its an interesting technique, but between hairspray type, thickness of layers, type of paint and thickness / no of coats of top coat, it can be difficult to get a consistent response. Still, once I'd figured out the Tamiya paints suited the way I worked, I have always been able to get it to chip, although arguably there was more paint removal than chipping on the wheels. The body came out better, thinner hairspray coats helping to generate smaller chipping and a better result IMO. I hope your attempts are successful, if you get any problems or want to bounce ideas around, you know where to find me 🙂
