These ppls material conditions are so bad that they have no way out, and all they are left to do is celebrate money/power/misogyny/toxic masculinity/patriarchy. Conviction rate is such a poor metric to go by. When is she saying "It's ok because everyone else is doing it" ? She's 100% correct to say that violent crime in this country is on the rise. What is wrong to say that Durham is not unique in this case?
@grafxgrl80302 жыл бұрын
@@Nuparu_lol ~19:45 she doesn’t know what the conviction rate numbers mean? That’s purely evading responding to her poor results. Effort doesn’t count - results do. Bottom line. She’s letting them out of jail out of pity instead of requiring them to pay for their bad choices. Consequences should be the result of crime, not being let go to do it again. When there is no sincere repentance, there is no change of heart and change of behavior. 21:30 “I don’t think there’s any indication we haven’t done a good job” avoids giving clear examples of any success - not even one example. And to explain the massive increase in crime in Durham under her leadership would be impossible, again, because results count - effort does not. 21:47 she says Durham is not exceptionally violent as compared to the nation. That’s apples and oranges. Durham is exceptionally violent now as compared to when she came into leadership. Those of us who live here aren’t dealing with comparable crime rates in NY or Chicago. We are dealing with people dying now because of crime in this city as opposed to people dying from crime here a year ago. She is failing and refuses to admit it or quit and out someone competent in the role.

Reality, nothing is going to change because the people in charge aren't changing themselves. They have this mentality where they simply don't want to put Black people in jail. They really think that they can change their mentality instead. It's not going to work. Gang mentality doesn't change. If there's no work in the area and they could take to the streets to make money they're going to do just that. But the reality of it is is that being in a gang to them is great, so why wouldn't they want to do that the only way to stop crime is to put people in jail. if you break the law, you have to pay the consequences.

I'm from Durham, but moved away 25yrs ago at the age of 30. What bothers me the most is although it's gotten much worse, the truth is that gun violence has always been an issue in Durham. In 1971 my own father was shot to death at 8pm in an attempted robbery. I was 3yrs old and my dad was 25yrs old at the time. The man who committed the crime, having no previuos record on the books, did only 7yrs for my dads murder. Now, school shootings, in the 1980's. A beautiful young lady was gunned down after school in her schools parking lot by a fellow student for the apparent crime of refusing to date him. Many of y'all locals will know of whom I speak. God rest her soul. Atleast he's still locked away & if there's any justice at all, he will remain so. Then there was an accidental shooting between 2 best friends that I went to jr high with. They had found one of their dads guns and were handling it after school one day in the home and it accidentally went off. The result was one dead 15yr old boy and his friend who'd been holding it who physically lived, life was ruined as he never got over it. As for mall shootings in Durham, when I was 21yrs old I was working in a retail shop inside of Northgate mall when a 14 or 15yr old boy was shot by some other kids at the food court one afternoon. He and his best friend hung out at the mall together everyday after school until their parents could pick them up after work around dinner time. They were known by many of us who worked at the mall at that time. They were never trouble makers and were always kind and respectful. They said they were confronted by a group of teens who verbally communicated a disgusts for their close friendship due to differences in the two friends races, so they called the boy of their race a race traitor and then turned to his best friend and shot him. Luckily they had already turned and began running away by the time the shooting began and the one bullet that hit this young man went right through his shoulder so he was physically okay in the end, but I can't imagine what trauma he may have suffered afterward. Just goes to show you that there are unfortunately evil people in this world who don't want us to get along and continue to this day to attempt to drive a wedge between different groups of people. Although, I'll never understand why. That's 4 incidents, but also my grandfather was killed by another man with a gun and not only did I have to contend with all of this community violence growing up there in the 70's & 80's when I finally moved away to the other side of the country, a year afer I'd moved, I got a call that someone had shot and killed my brothers wife. I'll never be able to think of the bull city without relating it back to rampant gun violence. Same shit, different day only as populations increase there becomes more and more of it. What's the answer? Damned if I know. When so many people seem to have lost they're minds what can be done. It's not like they've any feelings about the harm they do. When you've no conscience, you're not bothered by it and it's extremely doubtful that these types of personalities can ever be reasoned with. A sad state of affairs indeed.

Our Mayor is on to something! We should let that woman do her work. The problem is that people are scared to be wrong; they think that their systematic way of aggression is the way to produce results. That seems to push people to rebellion yet, people and most men think that who ever is most aggressive wins. Its silly, our Mayor is choosing love as the approach, as a mother of our community should, to produce results. EVERYONE in our community respects the Woman head in their family and she has taken this concept and will use it to help leverage our community. I think this will work in the future. Side note: Lets get that DA outta here; extremely vague in response and no results.

So if you want to fix Durham you got to fix Philly you got to fix New York you got to fix your Chicago you got to fix Compton!! Let's start with putting God first. Now it starts in the household let's tackle the household. Now let's tackle the communities now let's get into politics government mayor and even the president of the United States. We are broken people and that starts from slavery Jim Crow being in America and it never been addressed and fixed.! Black folks are the face of greatness and the greatest source of entertainment and everything you want to be a part of your fun just being around us. But we are looked at as the lowest of the lowest on the totem pole in any position in a shape form or fashion we are kicked around beaten and fuk over. When we exceed in any shape form or fashion in every aspect of life is great there's no denying it is already been proven every kid around the world is on Tic Toc Instagram KZbin Facebook social media platforms where they come from the south upnorth out west or the east their mimicking our culture.! But it's going to take the whole America to fix us every race culture and Creed because we're look at as the lowest of the low on the totem pole. In Durham in the household we teach them violences . And this goes back from the seventies and the 80s. The kids now got a documentary welcome to Durham that they can watch and and no I don't mess with those guys on that side of town my brother don't mess with him my cousin don't mess with them my uncle don't mess with him my aunt my Grandmama. Nowadays the path is already set for you what side of town you belong to there's no programs for parks and recreations good programs . now do the kids won't to play sports do the kids want to learn science? Are the kids up for a debate literature? No the kids want to be on tiktok the kids want to be on Instagram social media Etc in grown folks face. Nowadays you got kids raising kids is a lot that has to be fixed I could keep going on and on and on you can't fix this problem in an hour or even a decade but you can get a good structure to start the formulate to go ahead and star jabbing at the problem. Remember there have been no Daddy's in the household since the late 70s not saying all households, but a lot of low income folks no solid daddies! So it's a lot, so quick fix make drastic laws more programs for the communities Diversified gentrify get rid of all the projects and come up with lucrative programs for the up and coming kids and block social media thank you yours truly one and only Carolina bull

Truth Amen the main point here is parents trying to be cool around their kids wanting their children to be their friends and minding other peoples kids before their own. The main issue is parents taking no accountability or even trying to straighten out their children instead they laugh at them being disrespectful old men and women chasing after younger partners young enough to be their kids. Standards in the black community are collapsing and it's all due to our people not respecting themselves nor liking their own families we disrespectful each other way to much there has been no love in the black community only judgement. We laugh each other put each other down and we go to every other race to get jobs done or to work. We as a people in Durham have got to see ourselves as greater as royalty. Unfortunately it starts with us in our 50s 40s and 30s to fix this mess because the elders refuse to change their slave mentality.

Problem is the revolving door of the justice system that has the community in fear of speaking up. Most if not all those unsolved cases downtown would be closed if ppl felt the security front system against these thugs. Example jo-jo shot up my house car cause Reno was standing there, what happens next is I beg u to figure it out but refuse to get involved (easy?). Should be since u already know trouble makers of hood, but should I say who/why I got to pay to fix/replace mine then I'm marked police to be next target. Big "real" dogs back in the day would fix my stuff to shut me up but these pups feel they own the turf including your land. Locked up today out tomorrow and you never know where next bullet going after being marked. With the gentrification of these ghettos in Durham, I feel remedy to this would be hate to say but.. (been waiting on it) one of these flying bullets that always seem to hit those innocent of black and brown ppl, hits one of those $ makers Durham holds dear, Or deems worthy a darn to actually investigate. If you can't recognize a community in fear the Bull City is blind.

Gov put a ban on menthol, vapes, can mark money but if you can't ban guns you can ban bullets OR figure a way from there

If it hits one of those money makers it’s just going to be an unjust crackdown on innocent folks.

If you think the only people shooting are kids/adults from poor neighborhoods and projects. Then Durham has a bigger problem than we think, and these are not the right people to solve the problem.

There’s not enough opportunities for OUR communities to thrive. As long as this is the case, scarcity is being promoted. As long as there’s scarcity, there will be violence because people are fighting over the lack of resources in our communities. There’s no reason why there are so many people that are UNDER-employed, not unemployed, underemployed. There’s no reason why I know so many black business owners that aren’t being funded, that are being turned down for grants and certifications. I like many others started a business because I HAD TO, I have been looking for work for the last three years and I have a degree, as well as management experience.Meanwhile, people from other states are being offered higher salaries and moving into high rises next to the hood. Be prepared for more violence because it will get worse until the root of the problem is fixed. The facts are that these gangs provide stability and resources. I hate that innocent children are suffering the consequences. My heart goes out to these parents and guardians. RIH Z’yon ✨💫✨

Where does the guns come from ? Those poor people not bringing ar's,and other sophisticated weapons to the communities. Deal with the roots, and not the surface.

Those with the guns, it all starts at home. It’s not the goverments fault. How kids are being raised is what it comes down to, what people they surround themselves with, having loving rolemodels. Kids mimic the adults behaviour and that’s who they learn from. That’s what all studies shows! Look at serial killers for an example, most of them grew up with abusive parents with lack of love and support. They are not taught how to love or being empathic. It’s easier to blame others. It’s actually the parents responsibility to raise the kids right from the dtart so they can grow up to be a good person. It’s not the goverment that put the guns in their hands. Be responsible!
