Bless you! Local dealer wanted to keep the car 4 days. Had the code cleared within 5 minutes of connecting the OBD2 reader and am recharging like normal again. BTYW, pro-tip for anyone frustrated by the bypass cable removal procedure, the disconnect lever is on the back of the connecter toward the front of the car. Once you find that, cables pull out easily.

About a month ago this happened to me & the dealership charged me $120 for this reset! So fast forward to Tuesday where I made a mistake by plugging in my jeep before the outlet not paying attention and was so upset I did it again. When I initially looked this up last month I couldn’t find anything. You have no idea how happy I was when I found this video & it worked on my 24’ 4xe! You sir are a life saver!! Glad it helped! I figured someone must suffering the same issue, so put it up. Not just save the money but also the time. I had to wait couple days for appointment slot just for them to clear the code 😂

Thanks a million! Just did this and it worked perfectly. If you’re using an iPhone select the low energy option to connect via blue tooth. That took me a while to figure out how to connect. Other than that, just getting the damn plugs unplugged in the tight spaces took a while and some hand cramping. Thanks again Tommy! 3 days at the dealer ship with no car and they couldn’t even do this.

Great video. I just traded up my 2017 Wrangler for a Willys 4xe. I had a reader that I got off Amazon similar to yours, but didn’t know about the 2018 security change. Gots a cable on order. I may never need it, but it may be handy to have.

My Jeep GC 4xe Is giving me that same error code when I tried to charge it. I’m not as adapt as you. And will have to take a trip to the dealer. Thanks to you I can at least tell him what error code needs to be cleared.

I got the 2 blue lights on the charge panel after I plugged into a public charger one have used many times and had just used without issues the day before. I took it to the dealership and told them I hoped it was just an error they could clear and I would be on my way. They ran diagnostics and said it was my charger port had gone bad they are seeing a lot of this. They told me it would take 2 weeks to get a part. Then the next day they tell me they "found one" in Portland 8 hours away and they would have it fixed in 2 days. My Wrangler charged fine at home for the next 4 days until I charged at the same Public charger and again I get 2 blue lights and the jeep won't charge. So I followed these steps and fixed it in 60 min (45 min trying to disconnect and reconnect the damn bypass cables). This is a life saver since my dealership is an hour away and take 3 weeks to get an apt. No I'm wondering if the dealership never replaced the charge port and finally got around to just clearing the error. Thanks Tommy!

Very, very nice! Thanks. I own a '24 Willys built two days after the strike ended. No surprise that it had a CEL after about two weeks of ownership. Dealer was supportive, but it took three weeks to get straight. After that, I realized that you CANNOT OWN a Jeep 4Xe without an OBD dongle (yes, the Vgate vLinker MC+) and Jscan. So much peace of mind, thanks again for a great video.

This will also occur if you somehow manage to slide into Nuetral and giving it throttle. Check engine light will coke on, safe mode is engaged, engine begins to fade and service charging comes up. You will not be able to get the Jeep in gear If you just let the car sit with the engine and power off for a few minutes,, it will self clear after maybe 5 minutes. The check engine light will stay, but not for too long.

This just happened to me today I was cruising and bumped it into neutral and tryed to just do drive again it died and went into I guess now I know safe mode it would not start and service system can on dash I sat for 45 min trying to start it finally it started as you said with just check engine light on I drove it home like that so happy to get it home

I always use a Charge point charger , and whenever I use chargers that are knock off I have gotten that error . After seeing this I won’t ever use a generic charger ever again lol 😂

I recently bought preowned 2021 4xe 2 days ago. Which also have jeep warranty. However i am confused know whether or not to keep this vehicle. I still love the vehicle but sacred of having same problems again and again. Suggestions please

well. apart from the charing thing, i didn't experience any other issue . They have done multiple software upgrades and recall upgrades, and I haven't experience any charging issue for a while. My experience is some extream cold weather (like -15 oc or lower) and heavy snow tends to cause more charing errors. If you live somewhere like Florida or Texas, then shouldn't have this concern.

Newb here when it comes to car tech stuff. Any tips or video tutorial links on how to unplug / plug the bypass cables without damaging anything? First time I watched this video, having to find and unplug bypass cables was a deal breaker for me...but two trips to the dealer later just for the simple clear code and it happened again...I'm willing to try now to avoid going to dealer again. 😂 Any tips greatly appreciated!

it is very challenging, took me 30 min to unplug the cable first time. I feel its easier to use left hand to reach the plug, just press down the connection pin, then use right hand to pull it out. Unplug the cable is easier than put them back in, so unless I'm sending the car back to dealer, I just left the bypass cable connected, it does not impact any function (at least I didn't find any). if you have to plug the cable back in, i find its easier to do the left side one first then the right side, but either of them is tricky, you need to position the angle correctly. Others may have more pratical tips. But for me, after did 3 times in a week, I kind have muscle memory on the position now :)

So... im back with a new comment hahaha. I went to a public chargepoint station today, and when I plugged in, the station went offline and I got the "external charging" error. I then moved on to the neighboring station... same thing but now it was saying "service charging system". I went to a different location further away and same thing. I am assuming that the fault from the station caused this. Would this method be a good fix?

You will need to read the error code using the obd2 scanner. The service charging system is a very generic error. But for sure it's in safe mode now, won't accept any external charging till you clear the code.

Around 1.7k..... Don't be scared, DIY is always part of owning a wrangler :) it's still an awesome vehicle.... mine is 1st gen 4xe, kind expected to have a few issues, the newer version should be much more matured.

So we have a 4xe on a level 2 charger around town it will charge but when we connect it to the level 1 that came with the jeep in our garage it won’t charge and the we try resetting the red button in the garage but nothing

@@NicolasMarquez-wv4ys yup better to let them check out. I never faced situation where level 2 working but Level 1 not. If you have an OBD2 reader, can check what's the error code.

Great question, diagnose and clearing codes shouldn't be any issue to warranty, in theory dealer needs to proof that the defect / issue is caused by the modification or tempering before they void warranty. I see people use JSCAN to do all sorts modes (e.g. change tire size, settings) and no one reported with a warranty issue (but if you made a lot EUC changes, better change it back before send to dealer) Having that said blindly clearing any codes without checking the detail and understand the rational is risky, as the car may running with serious issue but without notifying you.. I'm not surprised if delear void the warranty because of that. That's why I mentioned in the video, if you see any other error code which you don't understand, take it back to dealer. I did some good digging on this specific error code, so I know its safe to clear (its just like reset the GFCI outlet in your home), and in fact the service manager in my dealership hinted me to do it myself after I brought it back 3 times for same reason 🤣 The guy helped me write the charge off by mark it under warranty-scope inspection, but guess he can't keep doing that 😅

Ridiculous comment from someone who doesn't actually own one. I have had 7 other Wranglers and this is by far and away the best of the bunch. The 4XE gets excellent mpg. Two months in, we have yet to full it up. Cheaper to run than our CRV. The 4XE goes 0 -60 in 5.5 seconds. It has significantly more power than the gas only Wrangler (Not 392) so you do not have to regear when you add much bigger tires. Plus it is cheaper if you are comparing the same trim levels due to all the incentives. The 4XE has more torque than my new chevy 2500HD gas truck and gets well over 30 mpg. If you are gonna debate someone, please bring facts like this rather than your immature opinion.

Agree 100%. We are on Jeeps 4 and 5 now and the 4Xe is amazing! It has the same torque as my 2023 C-8 Z-51 Corvette but gets me about 450-650 miles to a tank of gas!
