Just wanted to say my son got recommended one of your videos and he sent it to me this morning saying it really helped him. He's 22 and has been dealing with very bad depression and anxiety and keeps thinking he's supposed to have life figured out by now. Until he saw your video and he calmed down. Thank you for helping people. ❤

not to mention, depression and anxiety are states of mind, not something anyone 'has' unless you wanna pump money into drs visits for the rest of your life, you can't think like that, and you have to accept that you control your own mental state

All from my personal experience only, not medical advice: Start with the basics, diet, nutrition, exercise. Get a medical checkup, blood test, and check levels of everything. Check for history of antibiotic use, look into probiotics. The gut and mind are massively interconnected. I happened to have a candida infection in my gut, and that threw off my entire interpretation of reality, because of all the toxic byproducts. After removing it, I felt at peace finally, it was like night and day clarity. 22 is still extremely young, I’m hitting 30 and just starting to get it together. Finding a consistent physical output is massively important, it should be rewarding and enjoyable. Also Look into philosophies that help to regulate the response to the environment and to help modulate perception in favour of acceptance and then action. Personally, I was raised on Orthodoxy, but I have an appreciation for different religions and philosophies. Stoicism and Taoism share some concepts about flow and adaptation. Applying such concepts consciously and with concerted effort may help to regulate the feelings of anxiety. For books I might recommend Tara Brach - Radical Acceptance. And self compassion by Kirsten Neff. It sounds like he’s unhappy with his progress at his age, it’s not a bad thing, it means he has a really strong drive! The important thing is not to burn himself out and to work in ways that are harmonious with what he can offer and is good at. Challenge is good, it develops strength, confidence and character, however, needless effort in directions where it will not reward him is not optimal. Energy flows, and you have to work within the natural rhythms. It must be directed towards the right places to reap the most benefits. Sending energy inwards, towards thought, overthinking and inaction, leads to anxiety, which leads to production of cortisol. Cortisol messes up the gut when anxiety is constant and the negative loop begins. I highly recommend to address it from all angles, so he can focus his energy to grow into the best version of himself. It is also a matter of goal setting, to keep them realistic and achievable, and that helps to keep life and progress in perspective. As for making decisions in the past or even the present, you can only make the best decision in the moment, based on the information you have. That means hindsight is null. Every decision becomes the right one because you based it on all you had at that time.

Hey Dewayne Peyton here. Was out wrangling in the Yellowstone area Roosevelt corrals and we didn’t allow hats whatsoever because of this exact thing. If they wanted to wear a hat we made them put a helmet over it. We also didn’t let the guests take their phones out on the ride. People would drop them or not pay attention and their horse would just start eating and disrupt the ride for everyone. We would flag the roads at cook city and the dunraven pass and we would have drivers going full speed at our line and we would have to yell and run at those cars to stop them. Our boss Gary McRae said “we have to treat these guests like they are five year olds. Because with no experience with horses they will act like five year olds. Not necessarily because they throw fits or anything but they don’t want to listen and they don’t understand what we are telling them

While not an instructor, I’ve spent considerable time with people who teach diving or shooting. Almost universally they say kids are easier than adults. Children tend to listen and recognize instructor/leader’s authority while adults think they already know and tend toward arrogance.

My grandfather owned a stable in IL in the early 90's. He passed away when I was 4, but I distinctly remember riding horses, and my father sold the stable when I was around 6. Several times I have encountered horses in my life since then, and I have always felt comfortable and understanding when around them. I haven't had the pleasure of riding one in about 12 years, but they always seem very docile and attentive when I encounter them. Somehow, though I only recently found direction in my own life, they have always seem trusting of the direction and judgement I've had when I interact with them. I miss interacting with them...

Also caving was very intense . We went through these grade 4 plus rapids and many people didn't listen and they feel out and got all their sleeping bags wet , but I didn't fall out because I listened to what they told me to do and slap the water with the flat part of my paddle so I didn't tip over . Had to share my sleeping back with one of the fools . I was less than impressed . Epic trip tho , I had a good laugh at them . The most amazing thing was when I was paddling in a slow area I looked up into the forest and saw this massive stag , I think it was a 12 pointer . So nice to be able to see an animal like that in the wild and not shoot at it .

Horses made me address something I didn't want to address about myself. Namely, that I am a nervous, conflict avoiding pushover! I recently started horseriding lessons for the first time in my life, to fulfill a childhood dream, and it wasn't at all when I read in books and watched on youtube: I was shoved on a already tacked-up horse and started trotting in the first lesson, and then joined the group lessons after a few 1-on-1 sessions. Everything I learned about horses on youtube and books flies out of the window when I enter the barn. My attempts to befriend the horse by giving scratchies and brushing backfired and made the horse understand I can be pushed around easy instead. The horse tries to bite me every time (and sometimes succeeds), I can't reliably work the brakes and steering on the horse and get yelled at by the instructor (I'm too much bleedin heart, I don't want to yank and whip the horse so hard!) while trying to fight back the tears (I'm a grown up! right? ) and smile when things work out and I get some praise. Did that instructor use pressure and release on ME? Hey! I'm a low pressure threshold horse..err. human! ....Give me treats instead... ; _ ; Lately after each lesson I felt miserably stupid and seriously considered quitting because clearly, I am not fit to be around horses (or people). But I wont! I will get that horse to listen and respect my space and maybe become a better confident human as well, that wont be pushed around so easily by horse or man! (and ya know.. maybe try another barn.. >_> see if there is a difference. Maybe it doesn't have to be as hard as it is now.. ) In short: I can recommend horse riding lessons to anyone even at a later age, if you can afford it and physically able to. It will reveal your true self. It might be better than you thought and it might be something you really need to work on. ...Or is this all of the above nonsense and should I quit and stay far away from horses after all? O_O,
@alicia_nicole4442 ай бұрын
Keep pushing! See it to the end 🫡. Seems like you’re self-aware so at the end of the lesson, you’ll know what to do from there!
@tracyjohnson50232 ай бұрын
Scribbles find another barn that teaches the basics of horsemanship first. How to halter, lead, groom, tack up. All of these things allow people to get to know horses and become more at ease. These are the things that used to be done at every lesson barn. Sadly, today it’s more about I want to ride for an hour, not “waste time” with this other stuff so horses are ready to ride when student gets there. For the hourly trail ride or dude model where this may be only ride ever, having horses ready makes sense. However, for students truly wanting horses in their lives it does not.
@DryCreekWranglerSchool2 ай бұрын
You’re riding instructor is lousy at their job. Just from this one comment I can tell that they don’t care anything about their horses and they sure do not care anything about you. Find another barn and start over. Do not stay at the one that you are at. They are going to do more damage than good.
@ScribblemouseScribbles2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your encouragement everyone! I kinda really needed it.. It's admittedly a bit of a one sided story. I learned some good things (by other instructors) too and there are some nice people there (and the horses are shiny and well shod... just not sure if they all get turned out). It's just that the tough love teaching style doesn't suit my nervous self very well. And the tough and sharp people that can take it all on the chin kinda scare me a little... That horse taught me good posture and keeping focus the very hard way. So no hard feelings towards Nippy (name anonymized for horse's privacy reasons) but I am going to check out other barns and hopefully find one where lessons are a little less devastating to my self-perception hehehe. I'm kinda scared they will be the same, and this is just the teaching style of the area, but I just have to muster courage and find out! (I really need to toughen/bolden up a little, heh) Edit: This all kinda makes me sound like a nerve-wracked mess, but it's not that bad, no worries. It's just a set of traits I neglected and want to work on to improve as a human (I got away with it long enough, it will be harder now than if I had started 10-20 years ago, ah well! As long as I breathe I can improve!), while having fun learning to ride horses! Horses don't lie man.. They made me look into the mirror something hard. It's no Friendship Is Magic, prancing over rainbows at all, but 1200lbs of wild animal that can and just might kill you if you keep faffing about. I still like them though :) I just have to take that horsey feedback and become a better and reliable leader one day

@@DryCreekWranglerSchool A little update! :) I went to another barn/riding school and it was amazing! The place was so clean (they clean the paths and stables everyday). The horses had pastures as far as the eye could see. The stables/boxes were at least twice as big (than the previous barn) and were mostly empty during daytime because most horses would be on pasture. I don't know if they stay out overnight. The instructor was all patient with me, even when I was drawing so many blanks at pretty much everything he was asking. I am glad I am learning more new things. The lesson horse was so sweet and patient. Riding another horse made me pinpoint all the things I was doing wrong because you see the same behaviors. I'm really all over the place with my legs, seat and arms. heh. And the horse didn't try to nip at me while brushing :) I never held it against the previous lesson horse. I was nervous all the time, I couldn't quite make out what the problem was and just worried about the horse instead of focusing on my own floppy arms and legs. No wonder the horse tried to check my vibe with nipping. I came pretty close to giving up this last month, not wanting to torment animals anymore with my sack-o-potatoeness and selfish desires. But now I am working out again to get my arms and legs under control. I can do this! I can be more than a sack of potatoes flopping confusedly on a horse! Eventually!

This reminded me of a pack trip I was on a few years back. We were just a few miles in on our high country trip. This was before smart phones and I was carrying a digital camera in my shirt pocket. A friend's horse in front of me stepped on a hornet's nest and things got a bit wild for a short period. The wrangler was in front of him with a string of pack animals and he saw what was happening and quickly moved his string on up the trail to get away from the hornets. My friend was thrown off of the horse that was being stung and broke a finger when he landed. My camera flew out of my pocket and was stepped on by the horse behind me. I was able to recover the camera and a few photos, but it was the end of my picture taking for that trip. We went on to have a very successful hunting trip and I give all of the credit to the wrangler that was with us.

I get wanting to get some pictures/video, but I wouldn't've thought music listnin' would've been much of a thing, although with the addiction to tech nowdays, I shouldn't be surprised. A couple of things wrong with that one: something in the music itself could annoy/spook the horse, it could keep you or the horse from hearing something you need to hear far as safety goes, and just the whole deal of really being there for and in the ride itself. To me, it's like taking a nature hike or doing anything else out in nature; the idea of being out there is to immerse yourself in the experience and sensations of doing the thing.

Years ago I was horseback hunting elk in Colorado. We met a man on the trail on horseback. He had a large canvas duffel bag hanging on one side of the horn. Hanging down about three feet. I was hunting with a friend who was a wrangler on a nearby ranch. He asked this guy where he was from and was it his horse. He said he was from Pennsylvania and had rented the horse locally and was going to camp somewhere. My friend recommended to the guy that he separate his gear and even the load. Put some on back of the saddle. He appeared to not be familiar with how to handle a horse. This was the first year the area had been open to the public and it was like a gold rush. People everywhere. We later came across two fellows with a young cow elk in a two-wheel cart. One wheel had broken off, so one of the guys had tied a rope around the axle and and then around his neck and the other was pushing the whole thing. We were glad to get out of there.

Hi Dewayne, great channel. What's that watch you're wearing there? Maybe one day I'll make it out your way for an adventure.

I like your beard. I have been growing my beard for about 4 months. How long have you been growing your beard, if you don't mind me asking.

Ha ha ha…, a Radio? Who does that? With all due respect. If I’m out Horseback ridin’ with a nice young Cowgirl. Like I’ve been known to do. We sure as Hell ain’t having no Radio. Especially when we can actually talk to each other & get to all bond together with the Horses. Life is made up of moments & memories that are much more appreciated without unnecessary distractions.
