2014 JKU with 95k. I had a P0302 engine code. Turns out to be a bad left head. Cylinder 2 won't hold compression pressure. It's currently at the dealership; the service dept people feel it should be covered by Chrysler. I called Chrysler Customer Care and filed a claim. Got denied the next day. Time to jump on the class action lawsuit bus!

I had the same code on #5 cylinder. I changed the spark plug as one person suggested, and the code went away. Heck give it a try. Might save you some serious money.

The dealer admitted to me it was a “manufacturer defect” but since my Jeep didn’t make the production date for the recall they refused to cover it AND refused to give me what the Jeep was worth in trade in due to the cylinder issue. I ended up trading me Jeep in for a Toyota and they gave me what it was worth. I will Never buy Chrysler again

I'm going through this with my 2013 Jeep Wrangler. Heat only on the passenger side. I can't believe they knew about this defect but continued to manufacture Jeep Wranglers. Now I'm out thousands in repair costs (dealership won't cover the costs), and how awesome is it they it may happen again!?! Only solution is to get rid of the friggin thing 😡😡 thanks Jeep! Thanks for selling me an expensive piece of crap! Oh btw.. this is the second manufacturing defect I've had to fix in this car: the first was that my whole e-brake system failed. I have a 2013 Rubicon with less than 100k miles that burns a quart of oil every 300 to 400 miles and the heater only works on passenger side. I have discussed these issues with the dealership here in Spokane and they said neither issue is covered by warranty and quoted me for an engine replacement. NOT ACCEPTABLE, I am very upset with spending over $30K and getting an unreliable oil burning not heating vehicle!!!

Drive a 2014 Rubicon and had coolant overflow multiple times causing low coolant. Replaced radiator with pin hole leak already. Temps running high again (224 degres) and was getting ready to call for more coolant as no coolant in overflow bucket anymore and temps rising.

My 2016 Wrangler overheating , I replace thermostat, water pump, electric fan , temperature sensor, and still having problems when I am stock in traffic. I paid extra for quarranty to the dealer, but they damage my driver side door when I went to the Dealer to replace the left fender. And person in charge denied they ruin my door.

I have had these problems with my 2012 Jeep Wrangler. I have paid for two water heaters and one waterpump. The dealer paid for some expensive repairs such as head gaskets and such. Now I feel the problems are occurring again at 135,000 miles. The dealer says they won't pay anymore. I am looking for places get a rebuilt engine and have it replaced. The Jeep has never left me stranded and I have put alot of miles on it but the issue is poor craftsmanship by Chrysler.

I have had this problem happen to my 2012 Wrangler Rubicon JKU at 77k and the dealership has had the jeep for one month now and did not learn about this issue until I got the trouble code and did some research on it. FCA case management says that they are trying to get the left cylinder head manufactured, tested and then send it to the dealership. Here it is the end of 2019 and no replacement part to offer. Totally Unacceptable

Been a jeep tech for 10 years at a very very busy jeep dealer. Have never seen this issue before. The heating/cooling issue is generally caused by a faulty blend door. A partially plugged heater core wouldn't cause this as there is only ONE heater core in the system not one for each side. So you would eight have partial heat or no heat from all the vents not heat on one side and cool on the other. As for the brown sludge in the radiator I have run into this many many times and it's nearly always been because the customer has added traditional Green coolant or universal gold into the system. The factory coolant and the coolant the customer added react with heat (they are not compatible) and turn Into a brown sludge which plugs up the cooling system. Any jeep build from like 08-12 needs to run HEAT coolant anything 2012+ needs to run the purple OAT coolant.

you are not entirely correct, the air box divides the air flow across the one heater core makeing the left go to the drivers side and right going to the passenger side. Typically plugged heater cores will not blow hot air on one side.

Local dealers are aware of the problem but they say its normal..and its a common problem to every vehicle on the market... another dealer said that a wrong coolant was used in certain model... yea right.

2014 Grand Cherokee constantly blowing the oil cooler filter and in 1 year of ownership the dealership replaced the oil cooler 3 times the radiator once. We traded our Jeep because Chrysler was not doing anything except bandaging our Jeep. Very Sad......

Experiencing this RIGHT NOW. Working with a shop that sees multiple cases of these a year. I have never added other coolant and heater stopped working. Looking to try and flush this, and if that doesn't work the parts and labor for the heater core is ~1100. No telling if it has damaged other parts of the engine. Will be listening to this CAL intently and waiting to see when/where I can sign up.

The casting sand sludge clogs up the heater core but to completely clean it out they have to replace the radiator, heater core, engine oil cooler and flush the system.

Can anyone say planned obsolescence. 2018 JLU Wrangler, Between 70,000 & 80,000mls right out of warranty: Warped heads $5,200/rear main seal leak $1,700 (shop price,still not fixed)/ coolant reservoir leak $400/also not fixed yet : oil cooler leak/ radiator hose leak ( leaves puddle everywhere I go)/ rear axle leaking. Engine sounds like a damn diesel truck. Aux battery killed my yellow top $500 for both (i have since bypassed that pos) there's other small things too many to type here.

I just bought a 2012 Sahara & I spent 1k so far; this month alone on coolant & over heating problems. Changed the radiator, temp sensor, thermostat twice in two weeks, hoses and fan; still overheats and leaks; Rn it’s at the shop, hopefully the mechanic can fix it; after all the new pars. I own a 2013 Rubicon and the heat on the drivers side failed. Chrysler replaced the heater core charging me $100.00 and gave me 6yrs of free oil changes. I paid to have the dealer flush the cooling system before winter. Most likely I will do this every year.

bought a 2015 wrangler sahara unlimted. due to a crooked shop, ripping customers off by double dipping, i really have no clue what was done and not done. from day 1 i could smell coolant after driving at least 30 to 60 minutes. what i was told, the head gasket was leaking, changed, still didnt fix it. then cracked heads, changed i think. then changed tampets and lifters, told i would hear a residual tick still....that doesn't sound fixed and one of the shop managers told me after i shared that comment with him, that doesn't make sense he agreed and apologized. tick was still there. new owners took over the shop and they tried to make it right. now, a whole new motor going in at about 99,600 km, cracked heads, cracked block, worn out lifters and scored areas. now wait 3 weeks for the jeep to get a new motor. the heat on passengers side and cold on the drivers side is a common problem. the coolant leaks out and allowing air to be in the system preventing hot air from blowing out at all vents. once user on youtube took lines going into the heater core and flip the hoses around and it has worked for him ever since. nav system stops working when the updates to the firmware fall behind and is not done by the dealers, leaving me unable to unlock maps, since many owners say once they ungraded their systems the entire system stopped working, no radio no tunes no nav no nothing, id sooner have no nav than no system at all. water leaks from the top and doors...death wobble...junk and after hemi motor , (sand in it)that didin't last in a 2012 sport, then this jeep....we are done with dodge, going with nissan. every brand has issues, but never again will we spend on junk.

This exact thing happened to me. I complained to Jeep corporate and got no where. Jeep tried several times to repair it. They eventually sent it out to an outside radiator repair facility who also could not fix it. I contacted a lemon lawyer and because it was not deemed a safety issue the lawyer advised the case would go no where. The dealer kept contacting Jeep but all they would pay for was to keep flushing the sand from the engine. In the end I sold the Jeep. It wasn’t worth all the hassle and the constant trips to the dealer.

I live in Colorado in the high Rockies. Needless to say it gets very cold here and I had my heating go out 3 times. I have a 2014 wrangler and I barely hit 17500 miles. Each time they supposedly fixed it. It last for a while and then goes out again.

2014, just dealt with the oil cooler crack at about 39K ... dealer tried to charge but thanks to the forums to prove warranty coverage. I have yet to fix the heater not being able to handle SD winters. Just into a year of ownership ... and now this. I'd guess this could be the issue. Will be following and researching the forums. How did I miss this in my research on buying a jeep? That many motors ... ought to be an uprising? Gosh, jeeps may get rather cheap if this is a solid case....

Replacing the heater core can fix the problem and youtube has a few vids on how to do it the super fast way that doesnt involve completely gutting your dash. Might save you a grand

My 2012 had this issue when it was new. Wasn't a problem...I showed the dealership temp. readings I took at the dash vents, and they then tore the dash out, replaced the heater core, flushed the cooling system, and returned the Jeep to me in less than a week. Worked perfect after that. Shit happens, at least they fixed it. In my experience, after 2013 the problem went away.

2013 JK bought new...meticulously maintained. Heat on drivers side went out last year. Radiator starting to leak a tiny bit now...Mishimoto filter going in and I'm bypassing the heater core until I can do about 5 flushes and pull and replace the heater core and radiator out this summer...just happy my jeep is now a toy. Probably one of the worst screw ups for jeep Ive seen and Ive owned a few of them.

Bought a 2012 (used) at a local dealer. Heat would work on passenger's side, but not at all on the drivers side. Took it to Jeep dealer and they eventually fixed it (replaced the heater core) and worked fine for a while. Now it is starting to happen again - glad to see it is being addressed, jut wish it were faster.

My jeep does exactly what video has said happens. We flushed heating and cooling system. Replaced heater core $600.. Upper timing chains replaces $2600..Drove it 100 miles, started cutting out. Now it Wont run at all. Shows codes of timing chains not right. Crank shaft codes being shown also. Mechanic now checking lower ones. Bought 2012 jeep wrangler used. Drove maybe 5000 miles. We purchased a money pit. Anybody knows how to get any help with this let me know.

Not sure if this is related but my 2016 Sahara ended up with "sludge" in the engine after only 11mths & 29k kms (~18k miles). Never noticed anything in heating components since I only had it 1 winter but dealer & subsequently FCA claimed sludge got in from air box. Jeep was never hydrolocked (I drove to dealer) but engine is apparently damaged dramatically & needs to be replaced. Wasted my time going through a BS arbitration process that ruled in FCA's favour in spite of lack of evidence to support their claims. I'm not fluent in "mechanic speak" & feel like FCA completely manipulated & took advantage of me for that. "Most capable SUV on the market"

I love the wrangler and the new truck coming out looks great. I have always wanted a jeep, but you cannot trust the dang vehicle! I don’t know how you can be in a business as long as they have, and still not know how to build a trustworthy vehicle, let alone one that could last just a few years without serious issues. I’m not one for big government, but if they stepped in and regulated FCA into non existence in America, I’d probably slow clap.Selling something so terrible, should have people in jail. I love my jeep and will love it a lot more when the only mopar part on it is the body. Everything on them is junk right off the lot, wrong size bolts in suspension, fuse boxes have little hole in the bottom in witch you can see the circuit board from and now finally they've found out why every ones having radiator problems

I had the PVC replaced with no change then had a misfire on cylinder 3 and paid $3K to have the drivers side head rebuilt. Should have added this to my first comment. During last hunting season the jeep was unusable when the temperatures dropped because I could not feel my feet nor keep my windshield clear. Unacceptable, Jeep needs to address this now!!!

The casting sand sludge clogs up the heater core but to completely clean it out they have to replace the radiator, heater core, engine oil cooler and flush the system.

And if theres casting sand in the heads wouldn't you think it would be in the oil ports as well it would destroy main bearings and rod bearings as well as the top end with cam shafts than just radiators and heater cores come on
