What I find funny is why Spock was written to die in the first place. Nimoy, for various reasons including disagreements with Roddenberry and typecasting, wanted out if the franchise so they had to kill him. Gotta say, this was handled much better than say "The Power Transfer."

I remember also seeing this in the theater as a kid and and being scared when Chekov got the larvae in his ear. But also being extremely sad at the end with Spock's death. It must have been the third week out, and the theaters were still packed as it was my friends Drews birthday party movie we went to. Three years earlier we saw Star Trek the Motion Picture and being even younger than when watching ST:II I was more confused by that movie.

I remember seeing this in the theater and having 4 separate applause breaks!! First one when they reversed Reliant's shields. 2nd, when the enterprise came up behind Reliant in the nebula the first time! 3rd, Enterprise coming up behind Reliant the 2nd time in the nebula! 4th, when Spock got the mains back online and they hit Warp just as Reliant exploded!! Major Applause then!! Got a little silent after that, for obvious reasons! Case for number 5 applause when the credits started after we saw Spock's tube on the Genesis planet!!

Theater experiences like that are great when they happen. Similar thing happened to me when I saw the first Avengers movie. It was so awesome when the audience is really with the events of the movie. I wish I could've seen WoK when it was in theaters and have that kind of memories attached to it, but I was still a few months away from being born at the time.

Indeed Horner did rework and embellish the score from ST:II as a kind of extended version of the first score. I would say that the end title credits music of ST:III was an even fuller version, much more energy. I prefer that one to ST:II's end title. But both scores are amazing, and Horner was at the top of his game. He did go onto revisit themes from his earlier career that ST:II helped launch.

Fun fact, the coffin stuff at the end was shot post production, as the seeds for Spocks resurrection weren't part of the original script. Even the "remember" line & Kirks "there are always possibilities" monologue were late additions. It was actually a bone of contention for some time for Nick Meyer who wasn't involved, but he's since accepted it.

I was 8 when I saw this in the drive in, Kirk was my hero then and still is- Shatner’s Kirk to be accurate, the one and true version of the character. Seeing adults act bravely and selflessly like Kirk and Spock led me to become a doctor. I had this movie played at my 9th birthday lol.

One of my favourite closures of any film I have seen in my life. It always leaves me with a positive feeling and James Horner's score really elevates the emotion. For a director who was not familiar with Star Trek at the very beginning of this project, Nicholas Meyer did an incredible job and it proves that you don't need to have experience to produce a wonderful and very intellectual sequel that ignores the first film. Whilst the budget wasn't as large, it is still a very entertaining and very clever film with so many ingredients that matured from the series. I always enjoy it as the sequel to 'Space Seed' in general. One of the best sequel films in history let alone in the Star Trek series IMO.

I saw this with my mom and dad in the theater when I was seven, but I never really understood something until now. I don't think it was a coincidence that McCoy is the one who says, "He's not really dead. As long as we remember him." This is LITERALLY true. He is the one Spock mind-melded with and left his essence. I remember all these years just thinking that McCoy says this because he misses Spock, and of course he does. But I think this was Spock already trying to speak through McCoy well before he breaks into Spock's quarters!

I was 7 years old when I saw this movie in the theater. My aunt took me, and she was a little annoyed at my emotional reactions. Those emotional jumps were insane. Thinking that the Enterprise was screwed when Khan took over the Reliant and completely caught the Enterprise off guard with her initial attack. Kirk's genius reply. Khan trapping Kirk on the space station. Kirk escaping the trap with Spock's help, returning to the Enterprise, and inducing Khan into engaging him in the Battle of the Mutara Nebula, where he knew his experience would trump Khan's arrogance and intelligence. The conclusion of the Battle in the Mutara Nebula where you think Kirk finally won, only to worry about how they were going to escape the detonation of the Genesis device. Spock realizing they were in a hopeless situation, requiring the ultimate act of bravery and sacrifice for the Enterprise to escape. Kirk's painful acknowledgment of his best friend's sacrifice. Ultimately, a hope beyond hope that somehow, his friend is not gone forever.

The whole score is first-rate, but the final 10 minutes or so, from Spock funeral scene - where Horner transitions from bagpipes to a soaring orchestral rendering of "Amazing Grace" - to the epilogue on the bridge, is a bravura stuff...like one of Tchaikovsky's tone poems.

Star Trek , est un concept , un message.. c’est pas la guerre qui fait le spectacle C’est l’amour, la force de l’amitié indéfectible, hors du temps . C’est l’amour universel J’ai du mal à croire que ce film est sorti il y a 40 ans , pour moi ce film a été fait hier. Les acteurs nous donnent le meilleur d’eux même et je pense que c’est le meilleur film de Star Trek.

Kirk seems reflective and calm, but you can tell he's learned one hard lesson here. In VI he'll use this lesson when he finishes off the enemy instead of leaving them to try other tricks.
