I disagree. At this point in the film, much of the audience was still reeling from Data’s demise. Ending with the suggestion that he was still ‘alive’ in the memory of B4 was a stronger point to end on. This clip in isolation looks like fun but edited into the final film it would have just made the whole franchise seem to fizzle out - even with the cheesy use of ‘...where no-one’s gone before’ as the final words.

I first experienced his real persona by surprise as a guest host on the old techtv show, 'Ask for Help,' then again on 'Screensavers.' His current web show, 'table top,' is particularly fantastic. In hindsight, I wish the character of Wesley Crusher was allowed to mature into Will's true personality. It would've depicted character growth, humor, wit, & not felt so tight. I wouldn't mind seeing him play a new star trek character in a new series which is more like himself. Richard Dean Anderson & Ben Browder both proved intelligent humor works in science fiction tv shows when done well. Wheaton exudes this naturally.

These actors all wanted to move on. (Biggest reason they offed Data was because he was aging too quick for the role and just wasn't interested any more.) Though the age thing they get by with Data simply saying he modified his skin to show his age. But beyond that you're talking they had a 7 season series and 4 movies. Something around 15 years of reprising those roles? They were done. No matter how much I would have loved to see the main Trek timeline continue it would have never been with the same people and actors. And I still hate how they killed Data off.

Data dying was lame esp since the same actor was seen playing an identical role! Had Data died and there was no B4 and no official Star Trek Countdown comic to launch Trek 2009 movie clearly featuring Data as we knew him for years on TNG and the TNG movies meaning he looked like Brent I would be ok Brent wants out I understand that but to show us a identical android played by Brent--it just doesnt gel at all
@donskiver7 жыл бұрын
It's not that the role was boring for him. He loved the role. It's just that he believed that he had visibly aged out of the role. It didn't think it believable that an unaging android with a child like perspective on everything, viewing everything with wonder, would be believably received by audiences with an old man playing the role. Even though data could alter his appearance at will and "age" himself, Brent Spiner didn't think it "fit" with the character to be played by an older man.

It was cut because the director had no idea about the history of Star Trek TNG. He wasn't even a fan, as he's documented as saying several times. It's not surprising that Stewart and many other cast members called for an "actors cut" once they saw the finished film. From a canon stand point, Worf was severely reprimanded by Sisko for failing to complete a mission in order to save Jadzia from bleeding to death after being hit by a Jem'Hedar bolt. He might not have been allowed to hold a command position because of that.

gothatway09 Actually he did promote from within. After Tasha was murdered Picard promoted Worf to head of security. He also promoted LaForge to chief of engineering.

PickelJars ForHillary That's a true statement. It all worked out better for Worf later anyways. He became a Federation Ambassador.
@oldtwinsna83478 жыл бұрын
Worf didn't have enough experience to be second in command of a large ship. He only had just recently switched to command division on DS9 after coming from a very specialized unit (security/tactical). His experience onboard DS9 was not even that of the XO officer (Major Kira held that spot) . He was also put on report for the incident where he failed his mission just to save his wife. He would not have been approved by the oversight board for the permanent position. The ship needed an experienced executive officer who didn't need to learn on the job. For Worf to have been qualified, he would need to do a stint as an XO with a less capable vessel, such as a transport or smaller cruiser type ship, and if he passed that, then might be worthy of consideration.

Yes, I agree. This is very unique. They laughed together and had great fun working on the show. They were great crew in front of the camera and same off the camera. Patrick Stewart admited in one of the interviews, that there are very few people, who he knows he can count on everytime he gets in trouble. And those are his friends from TNG.

Though captain picard did mess with captain riker when riker first got on the the uss enterprise d by having riker do a manual docking of the star drive to the suacer section. So it makes scence that captain riker would mess around joking with his replacment as first officer.

Star Trek Online comes after this.
@jcohasset235 жыл бұрын
A lot of that is because of the relationship between CBS Corporation and Paramount (which is owned by the current Viacom). They use to be one company as Viacom but when it split in 2005 CBS ended up owning the brand and Paramount the film library even though the shows had been made under Paramount. CBS really had no interest in Star Trek until they decided to use it for CBS Access and all of the licensing agreements since 2005 mean that nothing new can technically be canon in Prime including Discovery and whatever they do with bringing back Picard. That licensing agreement is why The Kelvin Timeline and Discovery look so different from Prime- they contractually have to be 25% different. I'm not sure how Star Trek Online deals with the licensing but I'm sure they have to go through a lot to get to use the ships and the numerous Star Trek veteran actors and actresses from all six shows (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, and DIS) to do voice work in reprising their role in the MMO.
@feenix2195 жыл бұрын
@@jcohasset23 The 25% is a creative decision, not a legal one - its so they can sell more stuff under multiple labels and lines.

Mike Gallant Not to be hurtful, you can like whatever you like, but a mediocre MMO based on startrek isn’t exactly... true canon, IMO.

Thankfully......We have something that will finally thrust itself forward into the future. Star Trek Picard will finally detailed us about 20 years after nemesis/voyager. Star Trek Discovery has been thrust 900 years into the future (800 some years from the tng era) so we get to see new eras in the forthcoming content

Two things, first isn't Picard's "new" chair Archer's old chair from season 4 of ST:ENT? Also the HAVE been to the Deneb system BEFORE! In the ST:TNG series premiere in fact: Encounter At Farpoint.

That's why Raffi was a mismatched character in "Picard." Jean-Luc would've been very annoyed with her lack of respect for command hierarchy and blunt speaking manner. She did mellow somewhat during S3 when she was paired with Worf. I think she did manage to learn a thing or two from him (besides Klingon martial art).

Adrian Monk would love that Captains' chair. It's got a SEAT BELT! In an episode of "MONK", the title character is sitting in a hi-tech van on a stakeout with some FBI agents and he requests to switch seats with Natalie whom is seated in a chair that has a seat belt. Captain Picard's "It's about time" was obviously a result of many fans and fictional officers alike wondering why are there no seat belts in a ship that can travel approximately warp factor 9.4.
@oninoni9 жыл бұрын
Warp 9.5 is not 9.5 times the speed of light it's more like 800-21000 times the speed of light
@1958PonyBoy9 жыл бұрын
+Steven Baldi Well, if the inertial dampeners were good enough to keep them from being turned into jelly maneuvering even at impulse speeds, Seat belts should not be necessary. But we're talking Star Trek, where they haven't re-invented fuses for the instrument panels yet.
@AthleticQuails9 жыл бұрын
Being the flagship, I'm sure the inertial dampeners would've been good enough. I like to think that the seat belt was installed in cases where they may have needed to exceed maximum cruise velocity
@1958PonyBoy9 жыл бұрын
+Anup Sonigra Regardless of the physics involved, it seems a moot point unless ALL of the bridge chairs were similarly equipped. Otherwise Picard would be calmly issuing orders to crewmen otherwise engaged in their own acrobatics across the bridge.

Why wasn't Worf considered for first officer? He had been in the command structure on both Enterprises under Captain Picard and served as first officer on DS9. Often commanding the Defiance.
@stevenheckert45158 жыл бұрын
according to the Titan books, Picard assumed that either Word or LaForge would become #1 on the Titan under Riker. both turned him down to remain under Picard. from what I remember Worf was appointed ambassador to Cronos for a time and this first officer eventually transferred or was promoted. LaForge actually has senior over Worf due to this BUT elected to remain chief of engineering, tho he did become 2nd officer (ops Officer was at that time an engineering subordinate.)
@baldieman648 жыл бұрын
Because he's a terrible shot. In TNG, his miss to hit ratio is off the charts - even at close range.

1:15 - 1:35 The dirty look Picard gave to his new First Officer when the latter called him by his first name was so telling of his command style. Then how come his ex-first officer in "'Picard'' called him JL and got away with it? There's some big plot inconsistencies.

why does it always have to be PC? Besides no man can be as in no HUman (e.g the dawn of mankind, they don't mean the dawn of males -_-)
@yvindblff56288 жыл бұрын
Why not? "No one" is more accurate than "no man", regardless of how much weight you ascribe to the choice of words. That may be a small, even petty reason, but I can't think of any reason at all for the alternative.
@joshfish28 жыл бұрын
Øyvind Bløff no it's not more or less correct, depends on the context. no man still means HUman, just as no ONE referrs to HUMANS ONLY, it doesn't count animals etc.
