The sadest thing is these cars were probably collected and stored when they weren't worth much to anyone. Now knowing how valuable some of these cars are worth in reasonable, even average condition, makes it even harder to see the decay and state they're in. Awesome video, though Mick, once again. Keep up the great work🍻

Probably not the best comment to make without knowing the circumstances behind family and government politics, after my Grandfather passed. Also, local council and the epa shut the yard down permanently due to re zoning of the land, that battle still continues to this day. Some of these cars have sentimental value, and have become victims of time.

I really liked the video Mick, but at the same time it makes me sad. You’re 100% right though, that XB GT bonnet and wheel in ‘95 might have been worth $100 and not the $2500 they are now. I remember buying several from the Trading Post just to have them. What really hits me though is that at one time, all those cars were brand new. Some would have been someone’s absolute pride and joy but because the repair costs 30 years ago outweighed the value of the car, those old cars have been left to rot.

Many Modern Cars made today, seem to end-up in Scrapyards prematurely, due to electronic failures and other complexities, that make them Beyond Economical Repair. That's why I have driven a 1971 Beetle (now a Tesla-powered EV) for the last 20 years. I lost faith in modern cars, as the plastic engine parts fail, and other issues that fail - all at the same time.

Hey there mate. Love the channel and what you do to restore the classic cars. I love seeing the older Fords and Holdens get a second chance at life and seeing cars in junkyards get restored and put back on the road. Keep doing what you are doing. You may inspire people to do the same. If you ever plan a trip across the pond to New Zealand, I highly recommend Horopito Motors. It's a wreckers yard in the North Island which was used for a couple of kiwi movies (Goodbye Pork Pie (chase scene) and Smash Palace). Theres heaps of older cars and some newer ones too. Noticed a lack of Japanese cars from that era. Wrecking yards won’t look like this in 40 yrs. Too many different brands and models now compared with the main three back then.

That “thing” at around 32.00 were used in most of the larger timber hardware companies back in the fifties and later and were used to transport large packs of timber and other outsize products where the driver had a cab on the roof and operated it like a car and each wheel was driven by a large chain, I first saw one being used as a little kid in the late fifties early sixties at Sussex timber in Gaffney street Coburg here in Melbourne and I was mesmerised by what it could do, they would just drive over the top of the timber pack, hoist it off the ground a few feet and transport it to wherever around the yard, they were quite a common thing at large timber yards and shipping docks

As Mick said, most of these cars actually were bought or collected in a time when retrieval cost more than the car was worth. It was a family owned wrecking yard for many years, until my Grandfather passed away. A combination of family members, local council and the epa forced the business to close permanently. We’ve managed some successful trade weekends over the years, opening up to car clubs etc, but being in a coastal environment, time is our enemy. My Uncle is still sourcing useful parts to be sold at local swap meets when he can, but the property has also fallen victim to theft and vandalism since its closure.

Hi Mick. Yep, truly a sad one, that. In some ways, it's like walking through a graveyard as you said, but to me it is almost like they dug all the bodies up. You sort-of want to look at them out of morbid fascination, but largely you just want to look away. On a more positive note, there is certainly a lot of trim and glass and such that - if the bloke was keen enough - could make him a small mint. I reckon there would be a lot of takers out there for some of the stuff you unearthed or that is indeed still in the cars and a fair bit was still worth saving from the scrappy. It's been a long time since I saw that many roofs of cars rotted to the extent that they fell inside or where the car itself snaps in half at the firewall. Thought New Zealand had the monopoly on that one in this part of the world, but obviously not! Thanks for taking us along ,mate. It was certainly a bit of fun in the guessing what you'd found before you said it. Some were definitely a bit of a challenge, but that one past the bees that you first called a Morris is actually a Wolseley 4/50 or 6/80 from the late 40s / early 50s. They look like a big Morris Minor and are basically the Morris Oxford of the period with a different nose. Pretty rare now. That bloke loved his Minis, eh? And that big mobile multi-storey gantry / scaffold contraption he built - what on earth would it be used for?? Did he tell you? Funny thing though, I've seen channels where blokes in the UK have found the likes of the Triumph Dolomite Sprint you found (another VERY rare car and somewhat of a collector's item) or a Mini in the condition on the video and have set about reclaiming them and rebuilding them from the ground up. In the case of the Mini, all parts are still readily available in the UK - including every panel to make a compete shell....but what original parts would still be useable? Not an awful lot, I'm picking. Anyway, I've written a book again, so I will sign off! All the best, mate.

Mick super vid. i really like your vids, I hang out for them. But this one was heart! breaking and distressing, I could of cried. Made me really sad the way our car history got trashed and forgotten. Reminds me of other vids of USA farms full of auto stuff trashed and abandon then the old guy dies and the kids or mates make a vid to sell stuff off, most of it badly rusted etc, Sad so sad. Again love you stuff keep at it cheers

Brings back memories, I bought a xb gs that was a trade in from the ford dealership in Dalby, 1978. The horn was activated by pressing anywhere on a rubberised ring on the inner part of the steering wheel. It was pretty well fucked at three years old.

Always find it sad these cars where loved long ago and then something new came along, they send it to scrap and a thing someone once looked after is now left to rot. Sure there is still some good parts left but still sad to see them rusting away into nothing. The result of consumerism I guess.
