No Torino lover is spending 35k on a modified 6cyl. With that money you can get a cherry, highly optioned GT or find yourself a decent Cobra. This guy ruined that Torino.

I like this show, but I think it's a crime to do this to such an original car. To be found in that condition is rare and it should be kept that way. Taking a junkyard wreck and turning it into a Hot Rod is fine but don't do it to original motors.

I liked the car better when it had the straight six and three speed. I also prefer the original color. They took a nice sleeper and turned it into a trailer queen with an engine that is so thirsty that it will probably never see any highway use. It will just be some rich man's conversation piece. Way to go assholes!

That was a crime to the automotive world. They took a beautiful survivor of a vehicle, even if it was "plain jane" and destroyed it. I don't care whether the end result was fantastic or not. It wasn't worth the price of ruining the vehicle.

the only good thing about money in this field is, now you can order a part from a catalog. Before 1986, you would hack up a perfectly good 340/383 Mopar just to save a rusty Hemi. Now a 340 Duster can be saved without trips to Carlisle for NOS interiors and southern junkyards for body parts.

I know what you mean, but I think in a lot of cases, these cars would just rot away without these high end teams restoring them. Unfortunately high end restoration costs high end bucks! It's the same in the UK with the old classic hatchbacks. Something that was 4k a few years ago is now 20k.

Normally, I like what these guys do, but I am not a fan of cutting up a pristine old car-the experience of driving these cars, is how they transport you back to yesterday. Please keep the chopping to the cars that are tired, and need refurbishment!

I agree. I've been watching from the first episode and enjoying it. This one was really hard to watch. When someone rescues a wreck and gives it a new lease of life like they had done up to this point, that's great. Chopping up a pristine, stock car like this one is criminal.

i had a 71 torino 500. 2 door, auto on the column, 351c 2v. i had factory air, and the same original blue that this car had. most people thought it was a little 6, until i put on good dual exhaust. i managed to swap in an edelbrock 268 grind, aussie 351c heads, and had to port match a 2v port, 4v manifold. also took the time to swap in an aluminum radiator. the c6 was slipping a bit but i still managed to win a lot of races. i miss looking out that sunken rear window and effortlessly laying rubber for blocks. i put on 15 inch rims, cooper tires, and new springs on all 4 corners. the power steering stayed stock, but i went from disc up front and drum in the rear, to adding a power booster to the brakes and feeling much more stable and capable. i was saving up for a new transmission and a new center section for gears and locker in the rear when i lost my job. i held out for months, then i got a lot of final notices to pay or lose heat and power, among other things. i had to sell it. ive wanted to get another since, but now im disabled and need hand controls, and a bench seat with an automatic. i hope to find friends to help me if i find another, it was the car of my dreams. id settle on any 2 door from 68 to 71 though. fastback is the only way to go.

@@amyhurley4461 I was out of work, had bills and my dad was in long term intensive care at Mayp Clinic. I found a new job in 3 weeks, and I've regretted selling my beautiful blue beast. Other vehicle I miss a ton, my 75 f250 hi boy. Pieced the grill together and fixed lots of interior stuff with good old JC Whittaney catalog. I was 17 when I had that, it was stock, 360, Dana 60 axles, I swapped in an old rebuilt 1968 390 from a mercury station wagon. It waa all drop in, and I put a 4v edelbrock carb and intake and the cam was stock replacement with the station wagon. The cylinders still had cross hatching. I had the intake and exhaust runners cleaned up and it was a monster. Driving nice, staying out of the secondaries, full time 4, I got better mileage than my uncles 78 2 wheel drive f250 with its 300l6 and we both had c6 transmissions. Now I really miss building old big blocks, 300i6, and 2.3l engines up. No shope place in my area I can afford.

His own words "you just don't find em like this" No schit Sherlock, that was a museum piece. I love fast, high horsepower, muscle cars. And I also like the idea of making money.. What he did to this one, and the black '57 Chevy (a Gasser) is just plain irresponsible. Both of those cars are DESTROYED Forever...Go get a Junkyard queen, of which there are more than plenty, and bring it back to life with all that TV AD money. So we don't have to watch yet one more slice of Americana destroyed for no reason.

True that. No 428 in a Torino after '69. I have a '70 Plain Jane 429 SCJ "drag-pack" Torino that I bought in 1981 from a Pontiac dealer for $75 in a 5 cars wholesale lot. 39,000 original miles but it had a broken bell housing. Pontiac dealer thought it was a back-yard crappy engine swap. 9 months later, it was correctly fully restored at a cost of $9000. I still have the car today. I've turned down $35k and $40k offers for it.

Making this Torino a Cobra Jet was a good idea. However, Barry should have kept it close to the original 429 ci of a Torino Super Cobra Jet, AND, gone with a FLOOR SHIFT, (CONSOLE SHIFT), 4 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION! The wheels and tires should have been larger, but retro Ford mags that would have come with the car as a Super Cobra Jet Torino! When things are easy, you shouldn't make them complicated by over doing a project!

Agreed with everyone saying he ruined a nice original car, I bet Ford themselves with have given big bucks for a car in that shape, but the thing that makes you suspect how talented he is as a designer is that fact that he uses a set of templates to draw he wheels. Anyone who hasn't learned to throw a circle by hand isn't much of an artists especially if you are drawing cars. Most drawing of cars are done in a 3/4 view where the wheels obviously don't look round they are ellipses so you have no choice but to learn to draw them by hand, using a template to draw the wheels is amateur hour and means you can only ever show the car from the side.

This car was "super clean" to begin wit and they ruined it. I hope they never did sell it lol and i hope if they ever do they get bent over hard with a rusty bolt and no lubrication

if youve ever wondered what happens when you ruin a great original super low mile car and get a team of non car people to do the re build (cyclists)lol and expect ludicrous money for such little effort.....look no further lmao

Morgan Kennedy - Agreed, poor choice, cheesy looking chrome and are just too tiny for the huge wheel well openings. I had a 70' Torino Cobra that sat low and had some serious tire to fill in those big open spaces, that car will need all the tire that'll fit it.

Yeah. I really hate the wheels they put on the cars. I'm not a fan of low profile tyres at all, but I think they look especially shit on classic muscle cars.

Cutting 6 cylinder springs to lower it, then tossing a huge heavy V8 on them was pretty dumb, it's stance is terrible, and the headers are mere centimeters from scraping, I'd say this was a failure in design and function. I've never seen a 6 speed C6 either. They should have left the 6 cylinder engine, tossed in a 5 speed manual, did some nice brakes and suspension work and called it even. *FAIL*

Another fantastic build from the Clowns in Corona. Let's review the numbers first: He put $35k in parts AND 220 hours of shop time. He's in CA, so I'm sure his shop rate is at least $100/hr. That's 220 hours @ $100/hr = $22,000 in labor. So, all together, he's actually into this car for $57k, Nice, creative math from the TV crew there. Who wouldn't want to pay that much for something that could be built by a bunch of bicyclists (notice everything they did was "bolt on"? There is NOTHING done to this Torino that the average guy couldn't do in his garage. And how in the world did they manage to buy such a clean car AND STILL put $14k into paint & body?!?!?! Maybe the buyers are getting smarter? He got the stance all wrong, it looks straight out of the 70's with the trunk sitting so high up the air, and did anyone notice how low the headers hang? The worst thing is, ALL of the parts to make this a really clean build are out there, but with Chris the Clown sourcing parts (who has no idea what he's doing, and has probably never turned a wrench himself), they will never find them. Pretty soon, these goofballs will run out of suckers to offload their money losing cars to. Then what are they going to do?

You have to remember that this is right in the middle of the OCC let's build $100,000 pieces of junk. When Barrett Jackson auction was king getting top dollar not for nothing, but definitely more than the average man could afford. It's a shame what they did to that original car. My grandma had one close to that. Hers was a auto and the blue was a little darker. She gave it to my mom and she blew the motor. It's a shame I didn't know what I could have at the time.
