There are rumors out there that say that Austin prevented anything from materializing as far as a push for Owen due to what happened during their Summerslam match. Sadly if that's true, this may have been a factor that led to his death because I don't think they put him through the Blue Blazer gimmick and suggest the stunt that killed him if he was a main eventer or upper midcarder like he could have been.

I fully believe Owen should have won the title on Raw and then dropped it back to HBK at the Rumble due to interference from Triple H. Still could have had Stone Cold v HBK at Mania but it would have given the company a chance to see how Owen handled being top dog, even if it was for a short while. Then Owen should have beaten Triple H at Mania, then turned heel on the following Raw by attacking the newly crowned champion Stone Cold! @Thor-Orion4 жыл бұрын
I always bring that up. Barely a year into the deal. He kept Bret from being the third man with that contract and ran Bret like a mule to build Stone Cold and Shawn up during that year (people don’t talk about Shawn’s first title run not being so great, but it wasn’t) and helping reestablish Undertaker as a world title guy. Then less than a month after the belt goes on Bret Vince tells him he can’t honor the contract. Vince was planning it for awhile, and i believe Bret somewhere inside saw it coming, if the Montreal Incident isn’t a flat out work it was a worked shoot, with maybe neither party acknowledging that they had both seen it coming. Something about the timing of Wrestling With Shadows makes me think Bret knew not to trust Vince once that long term contract was signed.

Thank you for doing this video. I always thought the "Black Heart" character was abandoned too quickly, as I had been a fan of Owen Hart and liked that he seemed to be getting a main event push. The story made sense and had that touch of reality that enhanced the story. I thought they would push the Owen-Michaels feud further and I was looking forward to it. As to your explanation as to their motive and keeping the Michaels-Austin feud hot for Wrestlemania; this was often the problem with WWF booking. They were so focused on pay per views and it gave their story arcs a sense of being contrived and also predictable. When a hot angle grew organically, they wouldn't go with it, if it got in the way of their plans to have the pay per view main events that drew the most money. Perhaps it did earn them money, but it often weakened the product in the months leading up to Wrestlemania because it got so predictable and dull. I personally would rather have seen an Owen-Michaels feud and Wrestlemania main event, even if it meant Austin would be involved with other angles.

I know it seems like that might be the case, and there is always little things that you could point out that ended up being the deal breaker. However, in reality, nothing small like that causes a person's career to derail. Imagine if somebody called the Rock a nugget as he was developing into the super star that he would become. Do you think it would have derailed him? If Owen was meant to be a top guy he would have been. As good as he was in the ring, there was a lot of guys that were good in the ring in that era, and it resulted in Owen being a solid midcarder, and that's just the way it was.

Lmfao! I forgot about that " Owen 3:16 - I just broke your neck " 😂😂😂. But the injury was not funny at all , but at this Time Austin had recovered as best he could for the most part, making the shirt funny as hell

The game gimmick is a blantant rip off of the Franchise gimmick hhh stole from Shane Douglas from ECW in wwf 99.

He was never going to be in the main event picture due to him injuring the golden goose. Austin didn't want to work with him and it was his era. Unfortunately Owen's career was in a downward spiral after Summer Slam 97.

Can you blame austin for not wanting to work with the guy that could have killed him? That's not something I could ever look passed

@@jeffboyd8139 oh I don't blame Austin at all. I still don't understand why they chose that spot. They were on their way to having arguably the match of the year up until that botched piledriver.

Owen should have had at least 1 WWF title run, its sad cause he had as much talent as his brother Bret!

I think Vince was going to push Owen as HBK’s next feud but DX caught on huge and he went that direction. Financially it definitely would seem to have been the right move.

When Chris Jericho won the Undisputed Championship, most plp were left scratching their heads. But alot of fans knew he won that night because the lack of a title run by Owen Hart made a great talent of his calibre worthy for posterities sake.

Last time I saw Owen wrestle live was the BreakDown PPV in Hamilton. Got a kick of Owen coming out in a Toronto Argos jersey. Watching it later on when it came out on VHS Jerry Lawler saying Owen was being a kiss ass not knowing Owen did it to get heel heat though half the crowd including me cheered Owen

Amazing work and you got a sub from me, and it is just sad what could have been with Owen Hart. I mean he was just hot at the time and WWE dropping the ball on him. Till this day i still felt WWE wasted Owen Hart badly and don't get me started on the incident. Keep up the awesome work.

The Black Hart was perfect for Owen. An excellent transition away from his brothers shadow that had credibility and set him apart from the rest of the Hart foundation. Certainly better than The Rocket and undoubtedly better than that Blue Blazer nonsense.

Owen was a brilliant worker, but for me Bret is the GOAT. The guy could genuinely have a brilliant match with anybody.

The real opportunity that they missed in this was not just having Shawn drop the European title to Owen instead of HHH (I know Shawn wouldn't have done that, don't @ me). Sarge mandates Owen as the challenger, beats Michaels on that Raw. Owen, boosted by the win is propelled to get a WWF title shot, HHH costs him the match. Everything else flows as happened but they give fans that big moment.
