Special Thanks to Chiseled Adonis for appearing:

The WWF and Pat Patterson created a historic match when the Royal Rumble was introduced to audiences. Battle Royal matches were nothing new when the Royal Rumble made it's debut but what separated the Rumble was the fact that superstars had staggered entrances. Introducing new superstars throughout the match made the Royal Rumble much more exciting than a standard battle royal, resulting in Royal Rumble matches happening every year and the match type getting it's own Pay Per View in January.
In the year 2000, WCW decided to produce a Royal Rumble style match for the very first time, known as "Countdown to Armageddon". This match took place on free TV (WCW Thunder) and it featured 29 superstars trying to earn a title shot. Wrestlers who competed in the match included Sting, Kevin Nash, Mike Awesome, Ernest Miller, Konnan and Rey Mysterio. This video looks at WCW's attempt at a famous WWF style matchup.
00:00 - Royal Rumble vs World War 3
02:52 - WCW in Australia
04:45 - The Countdown to Armageddon
08:05 - Chiseled Adonis appearance
10:27 - Match Finale
15:28 - The winner gets his title shot

I can honestly say that I never, ever knew that this match took place. Also, it's still funny to see Booker T going through, what I call his "Rock Phase". He was wearing the Versace shirts, wearing the sunglasses, started to use some of The Rock's mannerisms and even let his sideburns grow out. Taking it even further, he started to refer to himself as "The Book" and started using his Rock Bottom clone, The Bookend... Seriously, WCW creative!? For some reason, this version of Booker T doesn't get discussed about. Would be awesome if you would make a video about this, Mr. Wrestling Bios! Another awesome video, Sir!

worse still, I remember when Juventud Guerrera started calling himself 'The Juice' and took The Rock's catch phrases as well as using the people's elbow. The other criminal act from this time was when Kronik became the K.P.A. hoping to mooch off of Farooq and Bradshaw

Awesome was clearly the crowd favourite in all of the Australian Tour, Goldberg was ment to be the star of the show and conclude the Tour. Instead after Thunder went of air, he let Awesome conclude the tour (after the crowd was split, then all switched to a slow chant of Awesome, Aweeesome, Aweeeesome!!!) So thankful I was at this show. Awesome night, Awesome memories Forever !!!!

I was a kid at the time WCW came to Australia in 2000, & I was super excited about it. Sadly, we missed out on the live events, but due to demand, they put on a non-televised show in Sydney which we went to. They actually did have a Royal Rumble style match at this event, which was better than what was shown here. I may be relying on nostalgia, so I wouldn't put much stock in my opinion, but the winner of the match would get a title match later as the main event. I can't remember much, but I do remember Nash getting a huge pop (he was my favourite), as did Scott Steiner. Steiner ended up winning it & got a title shot against Booker T (who obviously won).

Welp, Ryan that was a supreme video as always. But since you already covered, this piece of work, there was another "over the top rope" battle royal thingy thing in wcw. I am quite sure you know which atrocity I am writing about. Where Nash stood in the ring, maybe did some moves, when pleased to, and any other competitor did get "counted out", for any and every, oh so stupid, reason? I don't know which nitro this was on, but during the reliving the war episodes, we will stumble across that one anyways. until today, I don't know if I shall laugh or still cry about that "match".

Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman could have been the most entertaining and popular tag-team of a generation if the people running WCW had been at all competent or Vince McMahon had decided to keep them together and book them properly

Huh ??.....”most entertaining and popular tag team of a generation??” Lmao Thas pretty ridiculous considering neither one of em can cut a promo ... I don’t think you understand the wrestling “business “ lol there’s a reason that the rock is “The Rock” and billy Kidman is just billy Kidman smh
