Wrestling Bios Presents - The Story of Eddie Guerrero in WCW
Eddie Guerrero may have had an exellent main event career in the WWE, but he made a worldwide name for himself with WCW. Eddie had an a string of incredibly good WCW matches that raised his stock considerably in the world of professional wrestling.
While Eddie Guerrero already had experience working in CMLL, AAA, NJPW and ECW, his WCW run from 1995 - 2000 helped him get established with more casual wrestling fans. In World Championship Wrestling, Eddie had some of the best matches in his career. From his showdowns with old time rival Dean Malenko to the much lauded Halloween Havoc 97 classic where Eddie Guerrero wrestled Rey Mysterio. Wrestling fans owe it to themselves to go back and watch these amazing wrestling showcases.
Eddie was also featured in some memorable segments and storylines during his WCW tenure. From his heel turn and his work with nephew Chavo Guerrero Jr, to his worked shoot promo where he called out Eric Bischoff on live TV for overlooking him. Eddie was fortunate enough to be with WCW when they were defeating the WWE in the ratings, and even though the focus was shifted away from WCW wrestlers who were not part of the nWo, Eddie was still able to stand out as a gifted and entertaining wrestler.
In this mini documentary from Wrestling Bios, we take a look at Eddie Guerrero in WCW. We cover:
- The Guerrero family
- Eddie's debut WCW match which occured in 1989
- Eddie Guerrero vs Terry Funk during Eddie's first WCW stint
- Eddie returns to WCW in 1995
- Early success with matches against Dean Malenko and Konnan
- Eddie Guerrero vs Ric Flair at WCW Hog Wild 1996
- Eddie winning the US Title after a tournament victory at Starrcade 1996
- Eddie working against Syxx at nWo Souled out
- The heel turn and Eddie trying to toughen Chavo up
- The Eric Bischoff "coffee" promo
- Eddie Guerrero forming the LWO
- The Filthy Animals faction
- Much More!

Eddie Guerrero was a total package. He could wrestle any style, had a awesome look, charisma and energy, ability to go between heel and babyface, could be serious and intense but also could be comedic and play the fool, promos were beyond excellent, just a complete and total pro wrestlers with real athleticism. Will always be remembered and missed. Thanks for the matches and memories.

Eddie was simply incredible, definitely my favorite wrestler to watch in the era that I watched wrestling often, the early to mid-2000s. I saw his last televised match, and I was just devastated when the news came out that he had died in his hotel room. He is rightly a legend.

Eddie vs Johnny B was a real classic. Flair's match with Eddie though, even though he beat Eddie, was one of Flair's best work matches to promote younger guys and up and comers. It rely made the point of Flair's gimmick, "To be the man, you had to beat the man." I almost met Eddie in person at Jacksonville FL at the airport. I saw this guy that "looked" like Eddie, made eye contact, got a friendly nod, but I never realized till later who it was. Really wish I could go back and actually met the guy in person.

Amazing video, I honestly think the cruiserweight division in WCW in the 90's had some of the greatest and underrated matches EVER. Eddie Guerrero was in a class of his own and was just a wonder to watch. Like any genius, he walked a fine line between reality and insanity, even in some regards it's amazing he survived as long as he did. Truly unbelievable and so so sorely missed R.I.P. Latino Heat

Speaking of Eddie's time in NJPW, I'd love it if you could cover the Tiger Mask gimmick because Eddie did perform in NJPW as one of Tiger Mask's rivals, Black Tiger. Some of Eddie's best work came from NJPW working under the Black Tiger gimmick.

His muscle mass just looked way too big for his body and his frame. And unlike Chavo and Mysterio his body didnt look proportionate as his upper body looked way too big compared to lower body. I think he was over juicing fighting heavyweights twice his size. He probably had a lot of pressure to keep up with the bigger dudes and thus might have overused steroids to the point of his heart issues. I think Eddie might have been better in todays era, where guys like CM Punk and Kofi Kingston look similar to his size.

It wasn't just his WCW days that was before the lyin cheatin and stealin. What about Eddie Guerrero 2000-2002? When Eddie Guerrero first signed with the WWF he was along with Chris Benoit, one of the main members of the Radicalz faction. He then had that angle with Chyna and there we saw "Mamacita" or "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero, he kept the Latino Heat gimmick going for a while after Chyna's departure from WWF and around 2003 he started the tag team of Los Guerreros along with Chavo Guerrero and that's what started the lyin, cheatin and stealin gimmick. The theme was "We" lie, we cheat, we steal then once Eddie Guerrero went solo with the gimmick the theme was... "I" lie, I cheat, I steal.
