It couldn't duplicate the build up of WM6, yet it was still a rematch many people had wanted for 8 years. Combining Hogan's ego with Warrior's limited in ring ability, topped off by WCW's generally over complicated/shitty booking and yeah, we should've really seen that train wreck before it happened...

Sherri deserves a lot of credit for the work she did in her match. She was working with Sapphire, who was not very skilled, and you can tell that Sherri completely worked around Sapphire's deficiencies to bump and sell and roll with her moves. The fact that you rated this match so high, despite how unskilled Sapphire was has everything to do with Sherri's incredible skills and abilities.

Savage really stood up for what he believed in didn't he at Mania? Between this and taking HBK and Razor at X for being selfish by going long in their ladder match, and leading to a 8 man tag being left off the card for lack of time, he seemed to not be afraid to ruffle feathers when he felt it warranted. The biggest problem with earlier Wrestlemania's was the lack of time. They had to get every match in 3 hours and you could always tell that some matches were rushed which I hated because they were good matchups that needed more time. I was a school kid during WM6, it was the show everyone was talking about. Every kid in school was divided into Hogan or Warrior fans, with about 70% of them being Warrior fans. I remember being so nervous as a Warrior fan everytime Hogan went for a pin. The momentum both guys had going into the match was huge nobody knew who would win, great times. The only other time I remember my wrestling buddies being so divided into factions was during the whole WCW vs NWO black n white / red n black days.

I can still feel how upset I was when Hogan went for the leg drop, and how excited I was that he missed. Great drama in the match and a great main event. P.S. I also remember how we all loved Andre nailing Heenan and riding in the cart by himself!

All of you guys share the same sentiment that I do. I remember watching this on PPV at a friend's house with around 10 other guys. We were having a blast! And if memory serves, were were pretty well sit down the middle between Hogan and the Warrior (I was rooting for the Warrior). That was a great match, and we were on the edge of our seats the whole time. I realize I'm showing my age here and I don't want to come across as the crotchety old guy (I'm 50, and I saw this WM when I was a senior in high school), but for me personally, this was the last WrestleMania of what I consider to be the "golden age" of the WWF. It was the last one that Monsoon and Ventura broadcast together, the end of the DiBiase/Roberts feud, the last hurrah for Andre the Giant (in my opinion only), the end of the "cold war" rivalries involving Volkoff, and the end of the peak of Hulkamania. Those were such fun times. I'll always appreciate them.

Coming from the UK, this was actually the first big WWF show we got in the UK once Sky satellite television was launched. I grew up watching World of Sport UK wrestling with my dad, and the difference was just night and day in terms of razzmatazz etc. So glad you mentioned how good the Santana/Barbarian match was. Tito made Barbarian look like a big deal with not very much time to work with at all (Rockers vs Barbarian and Haku at WM7 was a similar match, few expectations, big payoff.)

Getting their announce team dynamic over and staying in character in a spontaneous moment with a simple back and forth. Without even thinking about it, Jesse demonstrates his twisted logic. Biased af toward the heels, but in a way that made it sound like he honestly believed they weren't heels.

That was the real rub in the cultural insensitivity side of things; Roddy didn’t regret it because it was offensive in hindsight, but because he couldn’t get the paint off for weeks afterwards. Still, him and Bad News Brown ending the angle in a no contest comes out more PC-friendly than the Booker-T/HHH racist storyline at WM19. Some of the family still won’t watch WWE to this day because of how that match ended.

@@JohnWilliams-wl9px To be fair, outside of how the match ended, I think HHH retaining works in the fact that it leads into Evolution running RAW as a major heel faction for the rest of 2003 and it builds towards Benoit actually beating him next year.
