IIRC, George Steele was dealing with just getting diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, so he couldn't really bump or do any wrestling at the time, and "retired" from full time matches. @robertschumann77373 жыл бұрын
Yeah but since the early matches the early matches for so short it definitely would have tarnished their original battle. Plus, if they tore the roof down again the WWF would have had to do a Savage/Steamboat angle. No way the fans let Savage have a peaceful run without facing Steamboat if they had another 5 star match at Wrestlemania. Plus they just turned Savage into a babyface. No way they risk him in an angle against the cleanest babyface in the company.
@metalanarchy5186 Жыл бұрын
Steamboat and savage could have had a great baby face program where they trade the belt and it could have led to his eventual heel turn so Hogan could have got his belt back it would have made savages reign better instead of mostly working tag matches with Hogan you still could have had that team but like summer slam and what not he should have defended his belt

This was the height of my fandom when I was like 10 or 11. I absolutely loved this Wrestlemania, the storyline leading up to it and all the new options it opened in its wake. And having the baby faces finally get fed up and cheat to win was brilliant. Yes, Savage spent his career in Hulk's shadow. So did EVERYONE else. He was Hulk Hogan. It was his Saturday morning cartoon. It was Hogan that was almost as famous as Michael Jackson worldwide. When he left, WWF fell off a cliff for years which is what allowed WCW to become a legitimate competitor with him even as he aged. I'm sure the matches don't hold up well and they had to have them quick for obvious reasons, but it was the drama that was great with this one. And having Andre and Hulk eliminate each other to open up the field was the best thing ever. For the first time you didn't just know Hogan was leaving Wrestlemania as champ.

The tournament was VERY well planned out. Features many of the early former IC Champions, such as Steamboat vs Hammer (both former champs), Savage, Muraco, Rick Rude, etc. Great booking on this one!

Great video. I was live at this show, first row of the balcony, just around the way from Gorilla and Jesse. The highlight for me: watching my all time favorite wrestle four times and win the title! Thanks for also mentioning how Dibiase had the belt on the house shows after Andre gave him the title. The next night in Philly, Ted came down with the belt. So surreal for those days. Keep up the good work on these!

Brian you should have funny readings of ridiculous lines for future PPVs. Could you imagine the hilarity of a coherent translation of anything by Sheiky Baby or Ultimate Warrior?

That wasn't a half bad Andre impression. Wow. That was a really tight crowd noise loop. You'd think they'd stretch it out. Hell, the SvR games had a longer loop than that.

@@thebandit0256 You would think with how much WWE canonizes guys who wrestled in the 80s, the fact that the hometown of King Kong Bundy, a legit main event player during the boom period, is not available is pathetic.

I always loved this show. I watched WWF before this but this is when I got serious about it. I love the story of Savage it tells. I would have liked to see Savage vs Steamboat 2. I suppose they didn’t want to risk Savage getting booed since he was the heel the last Wrestlemania.

“Wow, what a babyface”? DiBiase used the chair, first. So, no- Hogan shouldn’t have been disqualified against Andre & was only getting revenge in the finals. I think Warrior-Hercules should’ve been moved to 2nd-to-last. After all the singles matches in Round 1, it would’ve been better to put one of the tag matches, before Hogan-Andre (maybe Demolition, so we wouldn’t have had to wait till the last 2 matches to see 2 title changes, back-to-back). Also, if Steamboat was on his way-out, he should’ve advanced to Round 2- so Savage could’ve gotten revenge in a classic rematch from the previous year. That would’ve been interesting- to see both top matches from WrestleMania III again, with different finishes.

I am just now watching a lot of these reviews. I wish I knew at the time you were doing these. I would have directed you to watch them on the VHS's that came out as a part of the collector's series. Steamboats and most other themes are left untouched in those VHS tapes.
