Here’s the other thing: there was just no need to constantly compare Neidhart to Bret Hart throughout the rest of their careers. They had different styles and personas. There was no reason to wonder why Neidhart didn’t “become like Bret.” He was always different from Bret anyways. Whereas Michaels and Jannetty in the Rockers were portrayed as clones of each other at the time. So it then seemed weird that they had such contrasting levels of success afterward. And I think for kids who remember the breakup at the time, it’s made worse that Marty was the babyface. We were told to root for Marty instead of Shawn, and, ugh... didn’t go well. If we could have just enjoyed seeing the heel fail, it wouldn’t have been so traumatizing. But Marty Jannetty became a constant and painful reminder that nice guys finish last.

Poor Marty. By no means was he a better worker than HBK, but he was actually a solid wrestler when he wasn't bombed off his ass on pills and booze.
@siranthony37115 жыл бұрын
I may be in the minority here but I feel Marty Jannetty is Hall Of Fame worthy. He had a pretty solid post Rockers split. I-C champ, tag champ with Kid, short lived but moderately successful run as New Rockers, feuded with Lawler in Memphis. Not to mention he did a lot of behind the scenes stuff.

Firstly, I would like to add to Oliver's list of requirements with the following: A Janetty is someone from a tag team that, despite being split from said team, continues to try to hang around awkwardly as though he or she is still living in the glory days of when he was actually relevant. I always got the sense whenever I saw Marty Janetty in a match that he just didn't belong and no one really wanted him to be there but he was anyways, which made seeing him always feel awkward. He never really changed his look or any other aspect of his persona. He looked like some guy dragged off the street and was put into wrestling gear. Very sad. Other Janetty's - Heath Slater was Janetty'd multiple times - He was the Janetty of The Nexus, The CORRE, even the Janetty of his own stable 3MB...he was Janetty'd. The other members of 3MB: Jinder became WWE Champion, and McIntyre is dominating on RAW. Oh, and Social Outcasts I think were just a whole band of Janetty's right there, but it's sad that even then the other two members became tag champs as The B Team...cringe. Also, I guess you could say that Curt Hawkins is the Janetty of the Major Bros/Edge Heads. At least Zac(k) Ryder got to be IC and US champion.
@michaelreborn96566 жыл бұрын
And yes, I realize that Heath did get to be Tag Champs with Rhyno, but I think that was just for pity's sake.

There's a chain of Janettys that starts with The Badstreet Boys and ends with Miz Joey Matthews can be considered the success of the Badstreet boys. As Christian York never got the huge mainstream attention he ended up getting Joey Mercury fizzled out after MNM while Johnny Nitro ended up becoming a big star The Miz became a huge main eventer after the split with Morrison. Who also got pushed but never had a world title run and was released shortly after his small main event push in 2011

Konnan was a HUGE star in Mexico before going to WCW, so he wouldn't count. Aside from that one WWE Championship Scramble match that Kendrick was in, I don't think his work post-Londrick split makes Paul London a true Jannetty IMO.

Few you missed would be Bart Gunn, Butch Reed of Doom, Mustafa Saed (The Gangstas), Headshrinker Samu, John Kronus, Rick "Fake Razor" Bogner, Scotty Riggs, and Johnny Ace. I think Jannetty gets a bad rep based on just how well Michaels did and how high profile their split was. If you were to look at tag teams specifically from that era, he fared pretty well. His 93-94 WWF run was fairly significant and as others have pointed, he achieved considerably more than Neidhart.
@tafua_a2 жыл бұрын
Agree with almost all of these except for Johnny Ace. While as a wrestler, he accomplished less than what Shane Douglas accomplished outside of Japan, nowadays because of his backstage role and storylines with John Cena and CM Punk, Johnny is arguably more well known than Shane.
