Truth must come out. My husband a pastor as well was unfaithful and gave away large finances for as well. While preaching and studying for Sunday messages. The bishop came before the church and told the church he stepped down for sin. He’s working on getting right with Christ. However, He was not. We are no longer married. Things were covered and he was free to go. It’s all sad. Repentance is needed. Restoration is needed. Where was accountability. Heart breaking really.

I have walked with the Lord for many years and have witnessed many godly individuals succumb to temptation, leading to public rebuke and the devastation of churches and ministries. No one is immune. I have observed that godly people fall when we replace the principles of God’s word with the patterns of this world. One such pattern is counseling. I often hear women seeking counsel from their pastors, even though the Bible instructs older women to train and counsel younger women. We have adopted the world’s pattern by referring women to pastors trained in counseling. Paul instructed Titus to teach older women how to live godly lives so they could train younger women. I believe that many failures occur when pastors become too close and intimate with women who are not their wives. I recommend that older godly women train and counsel younger women, freeing up the elders and pastors to fulfill their God-ordained duties of watching over the flock of Christ.

"No one is immune." Yes, we are immune to a temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it." I've been a believer in Christ since 1980 for more than 40 years, and God has always provided a way for me to escape sin. A case real story, my wife left me over 12 months ago. I have been married for 35 years; a neighbor stopped (female) and asked how I was doing, and my wife as well; I'm doing good, but my wife left 12 months ago. Then she said, "Well, my husband left me too; he took up an email relationship and then moved in with her, so now you and I, let's have dinner together." One of five times throughout my Christian walk with Jesus. Run, flee from sexual sin; God gives us the grace to leave every time. One last thing, "she said, sex feels good; an invitation." I ran to the border! LOVE JESUS CHRIST WITH ALL MY HEART! That IS the difference!
@leenieledejo68493 ай бұрын
YOU might say that "no-one is immune" but Scripture DISAGREES with you! "Whoever is born of God does not commit sin; for his seed remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God". There is too often an unhealthy 'seriousness' to/held in relation to the man that has the Degree, Gifting Microphone that isn't helpful. He's just a man, just like the other men in the church who work hard in what we now call secular jobs. "Elevated knowledge of theology?" That sounds horrible! Who would do such a thing? Having each individual pretending to hear from the Holy Spirit and each person hearing something different is the way to go. It's best to be your own God and make your own scripture and theology based on how you feel any given moment. And even if the scripture contradicts Jesus' scripture or the man's scripture sitting next to you on Sunday. They are still equally valid and true. In the orthodox Jewish community there are many boundaries set up to guard against falling into these sins. For instance, orthodox men and women are separated at worship times and men and women are never in a room alone together. They don’t ever touch - not even to shake hands! The roles for men and women are clearly defined. We as Christians might think this is too much, but in their communities affairs are very rare because the consequences are too high. They understand what it does to everyone connected to them. I think as Christians we have allowed for sin to creep in because we don’t have any restrictive boundaries when it comes to our daily lives with the opposite sex. It is a rare occurrence that a Pastor or any man would fall into sin the first time. In this case, they were inching their way towards the precipice and no one stopped him not even himself. We all know who we are talking about and I may add most people were no where near his understanding of the word of God or the knowledge of Christ or the love of Christ. But, he just kept on..,for 5 years!!! We should all maybe reevaluate our behavior with the opposite sex.

@@gailkshaw Good point. Logically speaking, a person doesn’t wake up and randomly start a relationship with someone. A relationship takes time to develop before it gets to the point of a relationship. From the article by Protestia, the girl’s family supported Lawson’s ministry, therefore she was not a random romantic encounter. I should have referenced the article in that post. However, you are free to support and defend Steve Lawson.
@gailkshaw3 ай бұрын
@@Jesus_Christ_is_Lord_327 In NO way have I defended him. There’s just so much speculation and ‘what ifs’ swimming about social media….with so little foundation. The elders had to prematurely get a statement to members because of a social media post less than 24 hrs after learning just a small portion of the problem themselves. [a statement that appears vague to most people]. There are several steps in church discipline that should occur before bringing such serious matters before the church. The complexity of this matter is due to the multiplicity of his roles. The other ministries also had to be informed before much of what took place was known/divulged. Church discipline of this deep sin requires serious, slow investigation at each stage in HOPES of confession, true repentance & contrition, reconciliation, & restoration [to fellowship NOT to leadership position]. Because of social media, information to church members [& others] was necessitated before even the first biblical step of church discipline could be taken. ‘Podcast pundits’ were quick to assess judgement on the matter before the local church had any details and were making statements based solely on the church’s initial statement [09/19] coupled with their few moments of interaction with him. As such, this constituted little more than gossip on which lay people based their opinions & positions. There are some Biblical truths……adultery and the associated deception disqualify an elder/preacher/teacher from those positions. This isn’t the ‘unforgivable sin.’ Gut wrenching/egregious/dishonoring to our Lord, absolutely, but not unforgivable. Everyone should be praying for repentance which, should it occur, everyone will know because of the public nature of his position[s] and the now widely known nature of the sin. The very honor and character of our God & Savior Jesus Christ has been impugned. Deep contrition & repentance would give the church an opportunity to demonstrate the same grace our Lord gives to each of us.

“Conference Culture” is a major problem that was not addressed. Self-licking ice cream cones. Here’s how it works: I write a blog that’s popular. I get invited to speak at small regional conferences and my name comes up with influential people. More people read my blog. I’m offered a book deal. To promote the book, I’m invited to speak about the book by the publisher at larger regional conferences and more important people know my name and more people read my blog. If my book sells well and my break-out sessions are well attended, then I may be offered a second book deal (usually a collection of my blog posts). Then I’ll speak at more conferences and maybe be a panelist at some of the smaller ones. At this point I should be getting big names endorsing my books and, if things go my way, I’ll eventually make it into a major publication or magazine. I’ll probably co-author a book and get invited to speak on the big stage. Then I’m coast-to-coast, interviewed, discussed, dissected, and backed. If possible, I’ll have my own conference and invite my own speakers, who incidentally happen to be the same people who invite me to speak at their conferences. Somewhere in here I have written a devotional and a third collection of blog posts. (BTW, it’s awfully hard to do serious research and writing when you’re constantly on the speaking circuit.) And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is how a Christian celebrity is born. Throw in isolation from family and church accountability, adulation of fans, more money than your peers, the Skinner Box effect of hotels and p0rn, loneliness,… Yeah, my question is not, “Why do some pastors sin and publicly fall,” but “Why don’t MOST celebrity pastors fail?” Oh, wait…

So many in the reformed crowd, in the past, have pounced with vigor upon other pastors in the same situation or upon differences of opinion. This most definitely includes Steve Lawson. I find it highly ironic that this panel is being so calm. I’m not calling for unkindness, but only calling for the difference in how this has been handled across the board to be addressed. Claiming to be a Pastor, as many do today, goes against Scripture, even if they use 1 Timothy 3 to justify it. Let’s examine this biblically. First, 1 Timothy 3 gives qualifications for overseers (sometimes translated as "bishops" or "elders"), but nowhere does it condone the modern model of pastors having exclusive control over teaching, ministry, and spiritual guidance. The early church’s structure was not centered around one leader. Instead, it was led by a plurality of elders (Titus 1:5; Acts 14:23), and the role of "overseer" was a shared responsibility. Jesus explicitly warned against anyone claiming authority over others in His name: - "But you are not to be called Rabbi, for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers" (Matthew 23:8). - "The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted" (Matthew 23:11-12). Pastors exalt themselves, giving themselves titles, authority, and power over others, directly disobeying Christ’s commands. Nowhere in the Bible does it encourage the establishment of a professional class of Pastors who act as spiritual gatekeepers. The term "pastor" appears only once in the New Testament (Ephesians 4:11), and even there, it is in the context of multiple gifts given to equip the saints for ministry, not a hierarchical office. Paul, who wrote 1 Timothy 3, clearly stated elsewhere that ministry belongs to all believers, not just a select group of leaders. He wrote: - "For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:26). - "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood" (1 Peter 2:9). The royal priesthood belongs to all believers, not just a professional clergy class. The modern pastorate steals this truth, placing power in the hands of a few and hindering the spiritual growth of many. 1 Timothy 3 is not an endorsement of the current Pastor role that dominates today’s churches. Instead, it outlines the character required of those who serve the body, not control it. Many who claim to be Pastors today resemble the Pharisees Jesus rebuked, who "tie up heavy burdens" (Matthew 23:4) for others to carry, while they themselves live comfortably from the congregation’s offerings. Paul also warned against the kind of people we see in many pulpits today: - "For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear" (2 Timothy 4:3). The solution is to return to the priesthood of all believers, where every Christian is empowered to minister, teach, and serve in humility. Christ, not a self-appointed pastor, is the head of the church (Colossians 1:18).

His sin is open for the whole world to see where the rest of us can so to speak hide it and no one needs to know, though some can still be in ministries and carry on with it sadly…. I loved what Paul Washer said once, that you shouldn’t “worship” the pastor or the preacher, but worship Christ as He alone is worthy and wont fail where others will fail. So so true. My heart breaks for Steve and his family, but yet again we know that we are all just 1 decision away from sin. We are praying for him and his family and for complete restoration. He is still a child of God regardless… When you look at David, and he was called a man after God’s own heart, but yet still see what sin he committed, and that was wilful and even still his Psalms etc are in the Bible…. My thought is just, why does Steve have to be “wipe out” “his name blotted out/completely removed” concerning, sermons, books etc etc etc as if he never existed, and as if he was never a faithful servant of Christ prior to this sin? Isn’t that going a bit tooooo far? 1 Cor 10:12 “Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
