I moved to Florida 2 1/2 years ago and have absolutely no wish to ever visit WDW. It was nice in the mid-1970s but even by mid 1990s, the magic have given way to the realization it was just another amusement park. Today, it feels like adults trying to hold onto any sense of that magic they once felt are willingly letting themselves be fleeced.

Fresh ingredients shipped in? Nothing fresh in Florida? Why ship bread in when the restaurant is a bakery? Shouldn't they have their own great bread? Sounds like they are trying to be pretentious, and that will convince you it tastes better. I'm thinking of a chef who has 5 James Beard awards for pastry and wouldn't dream of charging that kind of money for his spectacular bakes. Wish them luck but won't last.
@jaklg79052 ай бұрын
This is what annoys me. People where trying to justify the prices of her baked goods because she has "won awards", but then to find out she doesn't actually make in house just shows how much more greedy this is. And clearly those croissants are shipped frozen.

@trinachareseluv2 күн бұрын
If you know anything about Florida then you would know that any reputable bakery that's not based here will have their items shipped in because the water here ruins anything you bake. It's filled with chlorine, the taste is horrible. Einstein Bagels gets the dough shipped in from New York. There's a Chicago (where I'm from) pizza place here that gets the dough shipped in from Chicago. So I completely understand that. Still does not justify the prices. Its definitely a rip off.
@Paperista2 күн бұрын
@@trinachareseluv No bakeries in Florida make their own bread? Doubtful. Orlando water is terrible. Thank goodness they filter it for drinking. Ever get water at a WDW resort? Filtered, no salt. No salty tea, coffee or soda. (except at that Pinnochio restaurant, sickening) All made with Orlando water, because they filter it. Same thing restaurants do, commercial businesses do. All yeast breads contain water, using the "bad" water theory, nothing could be made there. So, either all their bread is made by someone else, or their water is filtered, and they should be making their own French loaves. Bagels from NY are unique because of the ph of the water of the Catskills, which supplies the city, completely different. Besides, all of their stuff is shipped in, but most made locally. It is made in an industrial park 30 minutes away and shipped over frozen. Nothing a modest home cook couldn't manage. BTW, that famous French bread, can be purchased online and shipped to your home for a fraction of the cost. Add a little deli meat (not like they cook a turkey or ham) and you have the same thing.

@@MarieJesne Marcel Desaulniers. Sadly, he just died a few months ago. He owned the famous, The Trellis, restaurant in Colonial Williamsburg. He coined the term Death by Chocolate, and has a dessert, cookbook and PBS series by the same name. The dessert, in seven layers, including chocolate cake, ganache, whipped truffles, chocolate dried meringue, etc. It was specular and was hugely expensive at $11-$14 (can't remember). He was a champion of using regular ingredients, saying you could and should use Baker's Chocolate from the grocery story. Not only is it widely available, but knowing the proper technique, with skill you could turn it into anything as amazing as a Valrhona chocolate. There are videos of his shows on YT. Sad that he is gone, one of the greats. (Also, thinking of world-famous chocolatier Jacque Torres who charges less for choc. chip cookies and truffles in Manhattan.)

Normalizing this kind of repugnant price gouging is the biggest problem. There's NO justification whatsoever for prices like these. Regardless if it happens to be good or even great, any justifications being made for prices like these would be enabling more establishments to price gouge like this. If this sets a bar for price points, then others will eventually go even higher. The prices ALONE should disqualify it from even being considered. Just because Disney gouges for the resorts doesn't justify a third party restaurant gouging as well. I'll NEVER give them a dime.

Disney’d rather have 1 person willing to pay $40 for a dish than 4 people willing to pay $10. Fewer seats and resources to use up.

That chicken velvet soup is based on the L.S. Ayers tea room soup. I loved going there as a kid with my grandparents, it was always a treat!

We had a seafood restaurant across from my old shop that would cater our events. I'm sure we had a bit of a friends-and-family discount, but we could still get twelve good size crab cakes for fifty bucks. Their normal crab cake entree -- which includes three crab cakes plus sides -- is currently $23. This is absurd.

She’s a baker to the stars, so I do believe that accounts for the initial and some current pricing. It’s still about $1.50 for a beautiful croissant in Paris.
@JillVoliva2 ай бұрын
How many stars are asking for her cake vs. her sending it? She’s the only one promoting who she’s given it to. Celebs aren’t bragging about her cake.

If she is so fabulous, why is she getting baked goods shipped in?

@@jaklg7905if you know New Orleans.that place is iconic and very well known. Maybe to make it more authentic??
@jaklg79052 ай бұрын
@@beth12725 That is fine to get the bread in. But don't charge ridiculously high prices off of the premise that you are some amazing baker to the stars, and then import some of your baked goods and still charge those prices.

Love your videos Kristen! It appears that there are a lot of french words on the menu. Being a french speaking viewer, I would like to give you a little french course: in French, when the word finishes with the letter « e » , the « e » is silent. So « soup » and « soupe » would be pronounced the same way. Same for « salad » and « salade ». If soupe has the letter « s » at the end, it just means that it is pluriel and you don’t change the pronunciation. Continue your interesting vlogs.

The bill for the 4 people has to be astronomical. I would be full before getting to the entree'. I would have had enough of the cost. Fun video. Thanks

I’d love to try it, but I just can’t justify spending that much on a slice of cake. I grew up in a shrimping and crabbing town- my mom used to give us raw chicken and send us off to catch blue crabs and she’d make crab cakes-the best crab cakes- and we were poor- it was, for the most part, peasant food for us.

I can’t believe what the prices were before they brought them down. Some of the prices now are still insane! Especially considering you need to add tax and tip on top. Food did look good, but not amazing. Love the decor though but feel like the food doesn’t match the decor and atmosphere? Thanks for reviewing :) love seeing everyone else in the video

Love your honest review! Not all people with means would waste their money on a mediocre restaurant. The problem I have is the price gouging in the first place. Were they trying to see if they could get away with the prices?! Now had to lower them because there was an outcry?! Makes me not want to give them any business at all.
@bellastar5962 ай бұрын
Absolutely agree! This place is really sticking it to the customer. Those with money have it because they spend wisely. Anyone who wants to go in debt just to try a mediocre meal have at it! I won’t be patronizing it.

I'm questioning if it's mediocre. All the other reviews have said the food quality and taste are better. The orices are still insane but that sandwich and cake looks shareable.

@@beth12725 Reviews I saw were mixed. Some items people loved, some not so much. What one liked another didn’t and vice versa. For the price point, I would expect it all to be awesome.

I am so happy your reviewing it. I think the interior is fantastic and beverage fits the place. I think it's so expensive that I can't imagne many people can pay that (I think many will come for Instagram pics then the actually food) . The way you say croque Monsieur and Fleur de sel hahaha love it. Thank you for your honest review. The sandwich looked so good. Did you like the chocolate? I am from Belgian so interesting. But also know there is what people call Belgian chocolate and our famous chocolate.

I’m done with Disney. We used to take our kids every court years 15 years ago or so. It’s become ridiculous. They’re engaging in price gouging. Another example of sheer corporate greed.

Love your reviews! I could see myself trying this place. It's more affordable...still expensive but I could do this one. It's pretty there. I feel like you talk a long time b/f tasting your food which means your food will be less hot..even warm. 😊Your soup looked good! Too bad it wasn't extra good. I love crab cakes but places often jip you. Lol For that price it should have been larger! 😂

Here in Southern California, most of these prices are just in the upper mid range of prices in any upscale restaurant. I've seen worse, many times over. When a plate of upper end Chinese food can cost $35 plus tax and tip, and steak costs $64 to $90 al la cart, at an upscale steak restaurant, The Cake Bake Shop is not so bad, but, the cost of a piece of cake does appear outrageous as well as the cost of a piece of pie. The cost of drinks are similar in many restaurants here. What a difference a city makes. Across the USA, restaurant pricing can vary dramatically for similar food. One can choose to eat where they want. Isn't democracy and choice wonderful? Now, back to my beefaroni.
