Thank you soooo much! I have struggled with automation in Logic Pro for so long and no one I followed seemed to cover it. I have needed this tutorial for YEARS!

If you have a midi controller and want to automate Logic makes it super easy. Click on the thing you want to automate (fader, cutoff in a synth, efx on/off), hit COMMAND + L, a window pops up, move the knob/fader on your midi controller, exit out of the window and you’re done.

That setting in Mix I didn't know yet. I always switched to mode Touch. That needs way more clicks :) For repeating automation I recommend using Region automation. Then you can copy or loop those regions. On top you can create aliases. If you need to change the automation in future, you just have to change the original region and all the aliases will follow it. No need to go thru all regions or re-copy the region thru the whole arrangement. I do that since Logic 8 and it's a very handy workflow for arranging, since automation is made visible by regions, like you have regions for MIDI and audio.

I"ve been spending a bit of time getting my head around automation in Logic; so many ways to do it. This is such a concise video, pulling together methods (some that I did not know) that should make the process far easier. One thing I hope you can do is automation for audio and MIDI in Live Loops. I know it's possible, but there's scant info on that out there. Really hoping that you'll consider it; I see Live Loops as a great place to experiment with ideas, especially trying different variations of a cell, so why not automation too? As ever, thank you for this; it's a keeper.

Also handy , you can highlight automation nodes by dragging across them , then hold alt and you can see the copied automation being dragged across the track as you place it where required

Finally a simple explanation for something Logic made too complicated for nothing and still placing the ruler is one more step that is never needed in other daw's once you have selected the automation you wanted to copy and paste you just hit command c and command v and done.. i dig why but one more step is weird , Excellent explanation and demo Sir.

Thanks, Chris! Learning bits and pieces as a beginner in recording here from Sweden! I have some questions about Live Looping and different approaches to that and wonder what you suggest with all your insight into how Logic Pro works.,. Can Logic Pro be used for live looping in the same way as a dedicated looping station like the Boss RC-505 MKII, or do these two systems work quite differently? I already have Logic Pro on my MacBook and want to start recording myself singing layered harmonies, and octaves so to train to hear myself and train my voice, so not only to record myself, but also to train myself to sing better,, and then by time add acoustic instruments like a flute or a MIDI instrument such as the ROLI Seaboard to my singing. Right now, my primary focus is using my voice creatively, and I have a Shure SM7B and an Audient ID 14 mkll. I’m trying to decide between buying a looping station like the Boss RC-505 or a small MIDI controller board or pedal that would make controlling Logic Pro’s looping features more convenient during live performances. Could you advise on the pros and cons of these two different approaches for live looping and singing, even voice acting? thanks for a really great channel, Logic Pro feels like a never-ending learning curve for me coming into this more as a trained artist and not someone who has a good habit of understanding software, but I get there one day!... Thanks!

Hi Cris, thanks for the work you do. I was wondering if there is a way to emulate the Pro Tools "Write to all enable" feature in Logic Pro. I've been using Logic for over 11 years but I've just come across this feature in Pro Tools for use in Sound Design. Thanks in advance!

Great tips, thanks! It would be awesome if Logic had LFOs we could assign to different automation options. I don’t believe I’ve seen any LFOs outside individual plugins?
@33tetragammon362 ай бұрын
hi, Logic DOES have an LFO. on instrument tracks goto Midi FX, select "Modulator": now you've got an LFO and Envelope. in there you can "learn plugin parameter" for anything on the SAME track. have fun!!!
@scheissami2 ай бұрын
@ legend, thank you! I need to experiment with it, but I think it would be nice to access the LFOs directly from the automation drop down. Cheers!

hi Chris, do you know why bouncing including Automation leads with no option to a stereo track bounce? the track is mono, there is no effect of any sort in the project, I've changed the output to mono as well.. nothing does... Automation export is not in mono... thanks if you or someone else can share his knowledge - i've tried every tip I found on the web so far ..

I can’t believe logic still doesn’t give us exponential editing for automation like cubase or studio one. Suppose we have a pattern already and we want it to start small and increment with time. 1000 clicks when it could be 2. The same with velocity.

Could you comment on why Logic/Apple doesn't incorporate automation features like synthet here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZyqeJ1vbalohsU and Abelton? It seems like an intuitive efficient method to experiment with automation that Logic does not provide. Apples solutions seem so clunky.
