Seeing the roll of toilet paper on the desk, makes her very relatable! Nice to see more emphasis placed on the function of a cabin, rather than just the design. Beautifully detailed look at the artistic process, in meandering but purposeful action.

I always thought I would need more space than this, but this would be the perfect art studio for me. I've always wanted a nice spacious table/desk in front of a big window like this. I'd have my tools and craft paints on one wall; books, records, and my record player on the other side for when I want to chill. Can't forget about the portable sink with a foot pump for cleanup

The shed I partly lived in ....a few yrs ago....had a huge opening to a field and trees, where I put my desk ...to read and study... I had small shelves made..in-between the support beams....to put books/items/stuff....on....There was one long end to end shelf...on the other side of the bed....where most of my daily items were... My bed had...logs for the 'two' front...supports and the back was were the piece of wood for my bed was attached. I had bins 'under' it ..that held my crafts :) It was made longer and wider than my futon so I could surround myself with various things... :) My antique china held sheets/towels etc. There was a portta potty for at night if needed.. Outside I had a portable sink attached to a hose from the main house....!! It truly was my ..dream come true.......Having desired to live in a small space.. since 1990 when an outdoor shed...at a Home Improvement place....gave me the idea of living in one. It was destroyed....by a careless smoker .... .: (

I liked the pace of this story, with lots of silences. Really got a feel for the space. And the idea that being disconnected from the Internet allows for a deeper connection to her writing and herself. I am wishing to know more about the house, like who designed and built it, and where the other materials that she didn't mention came from. Thanks for a great video!

My office is a small upstairs bedroom in my old house. The door is only 20” wide so I use an antique gateleg table because I can get it in there. The room is half dilapidated which appeals to me. My workshop is an 8x16 outbuilding the previous owner used for a chicken coop, I cleaned it out and use it for my wood shop. I also added a 10x12 concrete porch with shade over it. I had an electrician run power into my shop which was surprisingly cheap and way better than an extension cord.

A Neighbor called the city to complain about a building being built? How sad. Why don't they knock on the door and talk to the people living their instead of being unfriendly and wasting the cities time? I have noticed that people do that.. lurk around homes that have anything interesting going on in backyards and are nosy and jealous. A neighbor across the street from me has built a nice large garage and cars will stop stare at it and others will walk by and sometimes even walk in to take a closer look without being invited on the property and I know the city has has numerous complaints about it. I like it maybe others do not. Sad that in the "land of the free" there are so many people trying to control others.

Oh don't be so pessimistic :) The lady herself even said the city worker that came to check it out loved the backyard cabin and said she would want one for herself. You can make generalizations, but the truth is were all unique. I bet that city workers now has a more expanded perspective of what's possible in terms of building and who knows, it was probably an influence she needed in order to move on to the next phase/stage of her life.

Gravel Trap King Going up to a neighbor's door to complain is never a good idea. It can backfire if the neighbor is an asshole. That's why the city and police exist.
@DuncanCunningham
@DuncanCunningham 9 жыл бұрын
***** I wasn't thinking about them knocking on the door to complain but to do something like this. knock knock, "hello, I saw your little shed and it looks great, Can I see hows its all coming together?" owner: "Sure, lets have a look, we have it sized so that it doesn't need planning permission, it's not permanent and there are no utilities etc". But then [start sarcasm font] people would have to learn to get to know their neighbors and who wants that? [end sarcasm font]
@DuncanCunningham
@DuncanCunningham 9 жыл бұрын
David Mendoza I don't think you read my comment the way I intended it to be. I wasn't talking about the city more about how we should all be good neighbors and talk to each other rather than 'reporting' each other to authorities. No different from the way the secret police worked in the Soviet Union with people reporting others to save themselves.

Annie Dillard made the case for having your writing desk face a blank wall so you won't spend your writing time staring out the window, distracted by what's outside, and I tend to agree. But she gets points for having DeLillo's White Noise in her book lineup.

Love the design of the house. Does the owner have any heat outlet installed in the cabin (or will she be planning to install one in the future)? Because it would function better in the winter time (I'm from Canada, not sure about Missoula weather condition).

dear kirsten... 60fps really harshly increases the processing power required to see your videos in a decent quality. for footage like yours its not necessary and doesn't add much to the viewing experience but costs a lot of energy and bandwidth... you can even try it out yourself by monitoring your pcs thermal output or cpu/gpu usage while running 720/1080p60 against its 30 counterpart. thanks for your work and the amazing quality of your content :) best wishes, felix
@TBBTQuotes
@TBBTQuotes 9 жыл бұрын
Couldn't you just use an alternative browser to chrome maybe? I think it's the only one that forces 60fps in 720/1080
@flxschrbr
@flxschrbr 9 жыл бұрын
i can and i do :) but it would just save a energy overall if the content is uploaded in 30fps right away; because in such low/slow-movement-footage it doesn't make a difference. even the occasional "slow-mo" sequences to stabilize the footage would survive the 30 fps output render process just fine. ergo no costs, just gain. less energy. even less render time :)
@TBBTQuotes

Yeah but then in years to come when everyone's PC can easily handle all this it'd be sad not to have the 60fps buttery smooth footage from days gone by :'(
