After much confusion on how to differentiate between passive voice and past participle adjective, I came here to clear myself up, and I'm much clearer now. Thank you, Adams!

@writetotop Hi Adam, how would one explain "was disappointed" as "active" and not passive (especially since "disappoint" as a transitive verb means to make disappointed)? Does its being transitive have something to do with it?

Hello Adam, Great explanation as always. Could you please explain to me this one. Prices have increased vs Prices have been increased. I always wonder how the former one can be correct.
@jeevanigoga12736 жыл бұрын
Tirth Patel I am sorry I didn’t ask the question clearly. I do know that its present perfect passive. My doubt is really about the former one. “ Prices have increased” i mean how prices themselves can increase themselves. I saw a sentence “ Prices have increased by 10%” Although I can understand the real meaning, i want a clear clarification.
@olegpodlipalin59166 жыл бұрын
@@jeevanigoga1273 According to www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/increase_1?q=increase the meaning of 'increase' is 'to become or to make something greater in amount, number, value, etc.' As we can see there're both options are available.

Dear Adam and the rest of the community: I've recently wrote this and I want to share it with all of you, learners ad eternum. A glimpse into a professional career . How I have distributed my time in possession of my college degree? First of all, eleven years have passed since I became a mental health professional. During the four first years after my graduation I worked as a clinical psychologist, mostly in primary health care institutions. Then I moved into the industrial sector, in which I have been doing functions for learning and development. But the last two years have been terrible for me in terms of employability. These last couple of years I have been unemployed. Almost none opportunity has appeared for me in order to work as a psychologist again. Some people say I need to reinvent my self and look for others jobs. I think they might be right, but it’s not that easy, reinventing oneself. Dear regards. Cristián. PD: feedbacks are welcome!

Hi Adam, I have a question: What is the difference between the usage of " If I were forced to choose, I would..." and "If I was forced to choose, I would..." I've seen those 2 versions in essays, cotes, publishments all over the internet. Which one can I use in my essay for TOEFL? By the way, I'm a huge fan of yours...😉
@elvst33314 жыл бұрын
Steffani Sartini if I were Is grammatically correct but convention has made the use of was kinda acceptable in spoken English. So my advise is go with I were to be safe.
