Great content. I have used Sudowrite off and on for the past 12 months or so. Really like the product for features like description and brain storming. I think there are plenty of questions around ethics aside from legal when it comes to how some choose to apply these tools. From an ethics perspective pulling content from other authors works without their consent I believe certainly lends a hand for everyone to internalize their own moral compass with how they choose to wield the power of the tools.

It will definitely be up to each person as to how they use the AI tools - but given Microsoft and Google are rolling them out to every app, you will be using them regardless soon.

I share the philosophy of approaching AI. I get so tired of all the people crying and screaming that it is cheating and it is unethical. My argument is that If you feel that way, you need to go back and write on clay tablets because that is the only original way that original writing occurred. I haven't used Sudowrite much, but have, like Leanne, ChatGPT open as a collaborater. It has completely assted me in creation of my book and writing. Keep up the good work.

YAY! I've been watching Sudowrite tutorials all week and dreaming of the possibilities. Glad to see another episode on it from The Creative Penn. 🙂

Things have changed even from this interview, since GPT4 was released a few days ago. So much fun!

This was really interesting and I understand why some people argue about “cheating”, coz I also have this biased concept, that I should do the whole writing. But I tried chatGPT for descriptions and was amazed. Now hearing you both ask: why should I as a write have to bleed on my keyboard to write my stories, if there is a easier way? I think lots of us have this ideia that things should not be easy, if you are having fun and it’s coming easily it’s not right. Usually it takes me years to finish my books, which I write while having a full time job. I’m definitely giving a try for my next book and I’m curious to find out how faster I will write.

Great! There are so many myths and "shoulds" around writing - but we each need to re-examine our processes and give new things a try. All the best with your new direction!

Based on my current understanding of what's possible, I think that AI will not be able to innovate. Because the neural network only knows what has gone before, it would not come up with something new, like the vocabulary in "A Clockwork Orange" (ACO). Obviously AI knows about ACO now, so a unique vocabulary has become a known.

It is already innovating, check out what Deep Mind's AI has been doing, or what GPT4 is like compared to GPT3. Best to just give it a try yourself. So much fun :)

@@thecreativepenn I think people would benefit from understanding how neural nets produce their results. Some things are still impossible.

I don’t know. I’ve tried it. Sudowrite feels like a landscape artist using a painting robot as an assistant. It cheapens the art form. Nothing we can do to stop it, I’m afraid. Progress always progresses.
@thecreativepenn Жыл бұрын
It's more like a landscape artist with a paintbrush and canvas, looking at someone with an iPhone camera creating the same landscape. Different approaches, new art form.

@@thecreativepenn I stand by the robot analogy. The AI composes in our medium, on our canvas, and we can work around it and claim it as our own without anyone being the wiser. There are a lot of issues to address in the future. Readers assume the name on the cover wrote everything in the book. Sort of an unspoken contract. So I understand the opposition and I’m concerned for the trust we might lose with the reader in the future. Ian Malcolm taught us a good lesson in Jurassic Park: “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should.” Writing is entertainment, yes, but it’s an art form, and up until a few years ago was completely human-made. This is bigger than the invention of the Gutenberg press. It’s the invention of the quill. We aren’t adequately acknowledging what is lost and there’s no going back. I do very much appreciate and enjoy your enthusiasm, however. I’m looking forward to seeing where this is all going. Without a doubt, it’ll be interesting to watch. :)

Right now, using A.I. for writing someone's work is like using something with an intelligence of a cockroach (which is the intelligence of A.I. today). Scientists are saying maybe in five or so years (which I don't think it will rise in 50 years) A.I. may have the intelligence of a lab rat. Using this form of tool is allowing a religious radical taking over your fantasy novel (i.e. Harry Potter, LOTR, etc.). Bottomline, if I could not write a good or decent story, how can something with a much lower I.Q. than me?

I'm not sure which AI you are thinking of - but GPT4 is surpassing humans - mashable.com/article/openai-gpt-4-exam-scores Give it a try and see how it goes.

@@thecreativepenn Thanks, I will. GPT4 is new, but several astrophysics have claimed what I have stated. A good many believes in Hollywood regarding such technologies. We may never see a R2D2, Commander Data, and all the rest, but I would not mind jaunting through a wormhole like in Stargate SG1. :D Thanks for the link.
