Misery. One of the best books I've ever read. 11/22/63. Flipping fantastic. Read the Shining. Scarier than the movie. Reading Dr. Sleep now. So far so good. King has a way of pulling me in and I forget my own reality. He's one of the few authors who can do that to me. It's like a readgasm.

I read his on writing book and it gives some best tips for writing. One of them i like most is, write whatever comes to mind, edit later. This will help the writers who have hesitation as to how to start. I tried to write 2000 words a day, and still trying my best to reach such thing. Stephen king is one of the writers who can write about writing in such interesting way and he wrote a lot about writing.

This is the only dude whose catalog you can read from beginning to end (60+) books and they all have their own tone and voice. Nothing to relate them aside occasional names that are repeated. Every other author has one pattern and are recognizable once you read one of their books. This man would fool me every time if someone didnt show me the cover and gave me one of his books. Not my favorite, but one of the best fiction writers.

As an aspiring writer I would say that the most important component of any story is characters, more so then even plot. If you do not create compelling, consistent characters then the reader will not be invested in the story. A likeable and compelling protagonist makes the reader care about the character that leads them through the plot and the audience will feel grief when something tragic happens to the protagonist and the audience will have a feeling of elation when the protagonist finally wins in the end. There are two types of antagonists you can employ. The right nefarious villain will make it much more cathartic for the reader when the protagonist finally bests him in the end. Or you can go with something more meaningful and deeper and have an antagonist that is sympathetic, a villain who is on the side of the bad guys but who is not a bad person. In any story characters is what keeps a reader emotionally invested.

King's okay when you want a light easy read that doesn't require focus. His Australian equivalent looks like Bryce Courtney . Their 500 page books can usually be condensed to around eighty pages or less for reader's digest stuff ; heaps of pages can be skimmed through as with the Russian classical writers.. .For other writers we can't really do any skimming cos it's all important ingredients for the plot. We can't skim John Wyndham ,Desmond Bagley , Tom Clancy , Patrick Robinson , Frederick Forsythe ,,, We get an education from reading these writers . We get a pleasant daydream reading King and Courtney .
