𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟵 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯.
It’s a tragedy of catastrophic proportions, yet sadly under reported: infants abandoned in their first 24 hours of life and left to die. In South Africa, almost 3500 children are dumped every year by their parents, many of them new-borns. Dr Roxanne Thornton is a foetal osteologist and by studying the skeletal remains of these children, she can uncover how the baby died. By piecing together the evidence in the bones, she’s ensuring at least some justice for these forgotten babies.

I am a survivor of child abandonment. I was abandoned in a park in 1998. I was taken in as a foster child by my amazing family. I'm 26 next February. My heart broke watching this. 💔

I was a paediatric nurse for many years. I will never forget going to the Salt River mortuary to identify babies who had died in our unit, whose bodies were abandoned. I have the utmost respect for these professionals. My own niece is involved in forensics. And yes, it was often hard to see what we saw. I eventually switched to nursing adults as it was less emotionally draining.

There is truth in Bones. As an artists and Anatomist, I have learned that you can track an individual's history through their Bones. Science is the true answer to everything.

This breaks my heart. It's so cruel to harm little babies. 😢

I would never sleep. This job would destroy me. My great niece passed away with SIDS, I ended up going for therapy and I was not even the mother. Very brave people

Maybe put drop off boxes for mothers who want to abandon their babies instead of making it illegal to abandon babies

I can't help but think the cause of these abandonments are predominantly socieoeconomic reasons coumpounded by the shaming pregnant women (often teenagers) experience.

Why fall pregnant if u are not socially and economically fit

@@luhellin196true but it happens instead of “should not be happening” we should be finding solution’s of how to prevent pregnancy if the teenager is sexually actively, and if pregnant how to have safe abortion or adoption if the teenager is not fit to take care of the baby.

Not that any is better however, it can be argued that having an abortion prior 12 weeks is a little less harsh then such cruelty 💔
