I've been dreaming about this moment for a long, long time. Having a legit compressed air system with hose reels on all four corners of the car and all of the RUPES pneumatics to use. This is the maiden voyage of my system on the WRX correction.

You should spray water around the garbage bag so the dust from the blow out sticks rather then flying back out. Saw Jim White doing this and works really well

Air is definitely the way if you have the air support, which you do. I’d throw some ear plugs, headphones or something in your ears if you’re working for long periods of time with them

I guess I don’t understand the positives to using air? Electric seems so much easier could anyone fill me in?
@grsly854
@grsly854 6 жыл бұрын
with the 3 inch, you get an extra 3mm of throw as the electric is only 12mm, and although he wasnt doing it u can blast the tool by flicking the trigger when you come across a deeper scratch to try and remove it with extra pad rotation prior to deciding to change pad/compound

Im with u on all of these exept for the cheaper part. YES the tools are cheaper to buy. But compressed air is one of the most expensive types of energy to use and generate. there are a lot of losses. Thats why alot of pneumatics are getting replaced with electric tools , Must say that that is when you are not a bodyshop where someone is grinding and sading 8 hours in a day.

If you’re in an area with flammable vapors, electric is a no go. Pneumatic is the only choice. But other than that situation I would probably choose electric.
@c6z061

With 3mm orbit DA’s, you really have to know what you’re doing as far as amount of product used, whether cutting or finishing, as well as arm speed. Way easier to use a mini rotary such as the Flex PE-8 with small pads. Holograms are not likely with very small pads and you can be even that much more precise.

Matt! Hi, you should check into a screw style compressor, they literally produce all the CFM you may need without any extra tanks and noise, they are supper quiet!

I totally get why you went pneumatic instead of electric. Sometimes the sheer fun of doing things one way outweighs the "practicality" of doing it another way. Same reason we love manual cars.

Do the pneumatics require oil? How is that handled with paint correction. Only pneumatics I'm familiar with are mechanic type tools and they require oil.

have to give @whitedetails credit on that one, he had a pretty nifty setup with a 5gal bucket and a hole drilled in the side for the end of the blow gun to go into, that way you were blowing out the pad at the bottom of the 5gal bucket.
@georgebeato5702

In terms of time, do you find it easier to hit the car first with the 5 inch pad, then circle back to do the areas that need a 3 inch pad, then 2, then lastly 1 inch pad? I just walked around my vehicle, and realized how many panels that require different size pads to correct it. What is the best and most efficient process?
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 6 жыл бұрын
That's probably the most efficient. I like to do one panel at a time though. I like to stay organized.
@georgebeato5702
@georgebeato5702 6 жыл бұрын
Obsessed Garage yeah I'm stressing over it. I think I'm taking my time and just doing a panel at a time and simply changing plates and pads as needed per panel.

@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 6 жыл бұрын
I would definitely choose the LHR15 MKII. The LTA has a 12mm orbit that feels inferior to the LHR. The Mille is much heavier and more forceful. I like the smoothness of the LHR.

I find pneumatic polishers irrelevant to the consumer market. Pneumatic polishers are made almost exclusively for professional that have their own shop. Just imagine running an air compressor for several of hours straight. Your neighbors would be piss especially if it's at night. Not to mention your average air compressor would probably go bad in the matter of time if use for long periods without stopping. I'm fully aware there are industrial grade compressors out there but those cost several thousands of dollars which like I said your average homeowner will most likely not want to spend that kind of a money on a compressor.

All great points, and I agree. This has been a dream of mine to have a stout, professional grade compressor in an amazing garage since my teens. The fact that I now can run pneumatic polishers is just icing on the cake. The other advantage the few that want to do that same can follow my lead with the solutions I'm going to provide. Most people don't have 2000 sq. ft. garages, but there are more than you'd think. I'll be able to provide the solution.
