Really enjoyed this video. I went through the same process - 'Where's my beloved EXS24?!' when I moved to Logic Pro X recently. I was disappointed to find that EXS24 was replaced, however I'm sure I'll end up loving the new one as well. I still haven't figured out how to toggle the note release though, and that is an important function so if anyone knows how, please let me know.

Aha! Figured it out, I forgot, you do have to bounce the segment out first so the metadata is embedded in the logic file, much like with apple loops, then in this new sampler instrument simply add the audio file one by one or batch drop and hey presto.

Hey Christian thanks so much for your video - I love it. I have just updated to 10.5 and went to load up a track in progress and the new sampler can't recall the sounds I was using on EX24. It throws up the dialogue 'Missing File In Sampler Instrument'. I can locate them but in multisampled instruments that's going to take days to recall my work. Just come across this video Christian, i updated, not knowing that things would change, although in some respects i was pleasantly suprised with some of them. I did do a jaw-drop when i couldn't find EXS24, which was like an old mate although like yoursef, i never really worked out what the matrix was about, i did play about with it a few times but i din't really see the point, we have enough FX within Logic to do most of what we need to do, i just wanted to import a file into EXS24 and get on with the project. The new sampler, i got used to it pretty quickly and the transition has been fairly painless, so onwards and.....whatever. ; )

I've had a lengthy relationship with EXS24ii. wonderful old school sampler, but for the longest time I've wanted a version iii. More control over portamento. More control over unison. Just little things that kept it up to date. I thought when Apple purloined Alchemy that might be the one one but... eh. Anyway, I've not had a chance to try the new sampler in Logic but I'm hoping that the spirit of EXS lives on.

What a trip down memory lane... The Jazz drive, fumbling with SCSI devices, endless loading times when feeding a sampler floppy after floppy... A complete Grand Piano in 1.5 MB, and damn, did it sound gorgeous (or so we thought). And yes, then Logic Platinum, with a separately bought EXS 24. It was heaven indeed. Thanks for the nostalgia.

You're not the only one with the lock down grade cut. It's actually quite comfortable. 😂 Interested to try out the new samplers over the next week. Will be fun. Apparently they're backwards compatible and future compatible with EXS. She's not gone, just had a face lift. And you don't need Catalina to upgrade. I'm running it on Mojave

I've been working on the Spitfire competition video using Logic & BBCSO and suddenly yesterday I had 10.5 without warning. Auto updates turned off. Now unfortunately there's a bug where the transport randomly fails & a Logic restart is necessary. 6 restarts yesterday. AGGHHHH!

Exs 24 at one time could really easily batch loop a whole bunch of audio, 2 bar segments and so forth. I must be missing something, but no can do now. In multi instrument they all pile up onto of each other, then you have to find the loop, which is easy with the snap function, but processing 200 at once which was once possible has vanished. Any exs24 geniuses know how to get back to this?

Anybody know? Can this new Logic sampler translate my library of home made Kontakt instruments into its own format? I'd love to wave goodbye to Kontakt.. I only ever use it inside Logic and it constantly loses sample paths and the interface is too fiddly. I also can't automatically save all the samples and sampler instruments inside my Logic project like I could with .exs. If I could transfer all my Kontakt instruments to Logic I'd drop Kontakt in a heartbeat.

You don’t need to. Just make sure the .exs files are in the place logic needs them. Browse and load.

Great watch thank you! One thing I would be really curious about is if the GLIDE has changed in the new sampler vs EXS24? Once Alchemy arrived on Logic as a sampler, I personally found little reason to use the EXS24. There was however one big exception, and that was the glide. As someone that likes to dabble in those sliding UK Drill style bass lines the glide on the EXS24 was spot on imo and just did it better and easier than Alchemy. So it would be a bit pants if that's changed....

Hi Christian! I’ve noticed an issue myself and other people have had since the Logic update. The playhead gets stuck and only plays a small buffers worth of material. Yet somehow playback during recording works ok. Very strange was wondering if you’d come across it. 👍🏼

It seems Logic is finally using Redmatica, the italian sample mapping and management , re-sampling editor app company, that Apple acquired some years ago. Now in Logic you can sample your synth/drumachine with velocity layers real time and great looping editor, a function from Redmatica. I still have that app running on a Snow Leopard 10.6 on a MacPro 2008.
