Saw Mickey in front of the Bellagio in Las Vegas a couple of months ago. He actually looked pretty good and healthy. I met Mickey Rourke over 30-years ago, when he still looked normal. He was very easy to talk to, very open and honest. That was the problem... he was TOO honest. Even then he complained very vocally about the negative aspects of working in Hollywood-and of of course he was right-but he stepped on too many big toes for his own good, and it cost him dearly, sad to say. I've never admired or worshipped an actor like I did Mickey Rourke in the eighties. I kept the faith as best as I could, despite his many attempts at self-sabotage and REALLY bad cosmetic surgery. I had three huge posters of him on the walls of my bedroom when I was in high school, the way some people did with James Dean and Marlon Brando. I diligently watched every one of his films, even going back to Fade To Black, and Spielberg's 1941. I found that even though he made so many crap career choices, his winning streak in the eighties was a staggeringly untouchable thing of beauty, and no one could beat this guy. He still does the occasional bit of good stuff (Sin City and The Wrestler was a very brief return to greatness), but I actually get angry at his ravaged visage, straggly hair, and raspy voice. He's one of the few movie stars who should have loved himself a little. :(

DeNiro was clearly insanely jealous of Mickey’s far superior looks and acting abilities. It’s also clear that he used his power to hold Mickey back. What a scumbag.

As martial artists, both my husband and I often watch action movies and whilst "Double Team" was another rather badly written action film Mickey Rourke did do a stand-out performance as the villain out for revenge, and his physique showed him to be in superb shape. He definitely deserved the Oscar for "The Wrestler" but those awards seem chosen more for sociopolitical reasons than genuinely good acting.

He nailed it in the Wrestler !!! He could have been one the Hart brothers ! His passion in his acting comes from his passionate life . Overcoming the troubles in his childhood to become what he wanted . The dedication needed to sell the part . Under rated because he was human and felt pain . Keep him working , he's not done .

Had a huge crush on Mickey as a child in the late 80s/early 90s. I definitely saw body heat way too young. Over a decade later Sin city became one of my favorite films and saw it in theaters 5 or 6 times and watched it numerous times on DVD. Never realized that Marv was the same guy I crushed on as a kid. "Ashby" was actually fantastic and Mickey's work in it is spectacular. It was not a success, financially, but it is one of his best films in recent years. We get to see his comedic acting chops which is rare and the chemistry between him and Nat Wolff makes the whole thing a treat to watch. I don't think it belongs on the list of duds at all.

Mickey was thinking about retiring from acting as early as 1987. He was an artist, but I don't think he ever liked the business. He has had some AMAZING performances, but he walks to his own beat, acting in films here and there. I hope, and like to believe, that he's happy

That was a great compilation of Mickey Rourke's journey. I don't understand why he created such antagonism and reactions from his directors and producers when the talent and intensity are so obvious. His bad-boy charisma definitely puts him in the category of Brando. He clearly has it, still today. It's a thing that not too many have had or achieved if it can be learned. It's a raw sexiness that is quite natural to them, those few and it comes from also an intense autonomy.

He's the perfect example of what happens to someone who grew up under an abusive atmosphere. If anything, it makes you love the guy more. He calls out the things which others only see many years later, through his own life experience of swimming through the sewer.
