WTF Happened to Ozzy Osbourne?

There was a time that Ozzy Osbourne was considered the most wildly unpredictable, dangerous man in heavy metal. This was the guy that bit the head off a live bat during a concert in 1982, drank Vince Neil’s urine and snorted a line of ants like cocaine amid a bender. The former Black Sabbath front-man was a legend, to the point that many of us, as kids, weren’t allowed to listen to his music or - God Forbid - watch his music videos. But here’s the thing - Ozzy mellowed. First, in the late eighties/early nineties, he became more of a conventional metal guy with his killer album, No More Tears, but that was nothing compared to how, in the early 2000s, he became an unlikely pioneer of reality TV. His MTV show, The Osbournes, introduced us to his loving family, including his brilliant wife Sharon (responsible for much of his success being his manager), Kelly and Jack. Suddenly Ozzy became - family-friendly. One might even say the formerly Satanic rocker became wholesome in his old age. In this episode of WTF Happened to this Celebrity, we look at Ozzy’s hard-partying days and contrast them to the more mature Ozzy seen in recent years.
This episode of WTF Happened to this Celebrity is written (with Brad Hamerly), narrated, edited and produced by Taylor James Johnson. Let us know what you think of Ozzy these days in the comments!

I love Ozzy. When I was 2 1/2 my Aunt always played her albums for me. I'd even listen to them when she was in school. My mom took notice that I had an interest in music. When I was 5 yrs old, my mom took me to National Record Mart and I was allowed to pick out my own album. I chose Black Sabbath, Paranoid! I've been a metalhead ever since.

Great video as always we are all lucky to get to experience a time where the legend like this still playing and riding music. One other thing I will mention Ozzy was instrumental in rise of “shredder” guitarist.

Ozzy has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction over the years and it has impacted his neurological health. At this point, he's 73 years old and has Parkinson's disease. In a recent photo, he was walking with a cane. I think we can cut him some slack for not looking and performing like a 25-year-old. People age. Some get lucky and age gracefully or whatever. Others of us develop multiple chronic health problems.

His cut away clips they showed on the big screen there were hilarious. Can't quote them because of KZbin 's restrictions. However they very, very funny poking fun at Princess Diana and the Wizard of Oz. As crazy as of a lifestyle he has lived it amazing how he has outlived other musicians who lived a cleaner lifestyle.

Sadly it’s wasn’t till about the 4th grade when that evening I was Borrowing a friends ~”CD’~ As I was listing to song after song realizing I was beyond -INTO/Hooked- Whom ever made this CD… “ I was one of them people that really didn’t listen to music, let alone name the artist of the song…Etc! Next thing I know this one song came on and seconds into it I was immediately “ IDK mesmerized/addicted” captured with the opening guitar riff…. For the rest that night which is a couple of hours the only thing I wanted to do was have that song playing it on repeat in my portable CD player! This song was crazy train! And honestly I’m sure if people say stuff like this all the time but this song opened doors for me! Because of that song I wanted to a electric guitar for my birthday, and once I finally got an electric guitar I couldn’t stop learning every song that I could! The biggest issue though with me learning guitar what is I didn’t have the patience to literally start from scratch “ I was a band geek, I knew what it took to learn an instrument from scratch“! So I did what anybody else would do a listen to the songs over and over and basically figured out how to play each song by sound! The song that was “Crazy Train” I couldn’t get enough of it! Actually a bit down from the build up that I was “Pumped up from” being at whatever age I was in the fourth grade I’ve never experienced anything like that ever before “That I was distinctively aware of“!

I'd hate to "ummm actually" all over your video, but 1995 did NOT see Ozzy take on his first acting role, as he had a bit part as a TV preacher in the 1986 horror movie about a demonic rock star (naturally) called Trick or Treat (not to be confused with the 2007 anthology film of a similar name). Also stars Gene Simmons of KISS fame, and Marc Price, AKA Skippy from Family Ties. What would the folks at your sister horror channel say if they knew of this omission?

That part about crime rates rising is no joke here in Los Angeles. I’d leave too if my daughters mother didn’t “love it” here

I have always been a big fan of Ozzy. From his time in Black Sabbath to his solo career. His stage presence as front man is legendary and hard to top. But what it always comes down to is the music. If the music is not good then all the antics and persona both onstage and off don't work. What is disappointing with most documentary and bio pieces about Ozzy's career is that they don't mention the musicians, songwriters and lyricists that helped make his body of work so great. To the best of my knowledge, Ozzy never learned to read and write music. The members of his band provided substantial input to the music itself as well as the lyrics. Not mentioning this when talking about the subject does a dis-service to said individuals. To make matters worse his manager and wife being a very shrewd business woman, did things to under cut those that helped make Ozzy what he is today. These documentaries\bio pieces should tell the whole story and give credit where credit is deserved.
