Well done coverage of this show! One of my childhood favorites. I loved Burn Notice and always thought Sam / Bruce Cambell looked so familiar… wasn’t until I saw him by chance in Xena Warrior Princess that I recognized him so young… and found the western comedy treasure “Adventures of Brisco County Jr” once again!

This is truly one of the most underrated shows ever, and deserves to be in the ranks like Firefly. I remember this show like it were yesterday. This show cheered me up during tough times in high school. The FOX network were total idiots back then, even today the FOX network are true idiots and crack heads. These people should understand back then that if shows can't survive on Friday & Saturday nights, then put shows on other nights instead of Friday or Saturday. They canned a lot of great sci-fi shows like Brisco, including but not limited to Dark Angel, Firefly, Space: Above and Beyond, The Visitor, John Doe, etc. My Point is--FOX doesn't know how to properly promote and save a show if their lives depended on it.

One of my all time favorite shows. I watched it as a kid and when I got the DVDs as an adult, I regularly watch it. It's a fantastic mix of Westerns, Sci-Fi, Comedy, with nods to many other genres along the way. Great characters, fun and interesting situations, some great and ridiculous plots, plus just way ahead of its time. I got my wife hooked on it as well. All the main stars were so well cast, and the supporting characters really flesh out this weird, fantastic show. Aaron Viva and Prof. Wickwire make me laugh out loud every time. Such a crime that it didn't get another season. I think there should be a sequel series with Brisco and company in the early 20th Century as the West really starts to transform. This is the Show We Both Need and Deserve!

In Bruce Campbell's autobiography he talks about how Fox pushed this show hard. This was on first because they thought this would be a big hit and they thought a weaker show like the X-Files would benefit from a strong lead-in. The X-Files was a surprise hit and was much cheaper to make since it was set in the present day, so the network went all-in on that instead. I wish they had kept doing both, but they were really only interested in making shows that matched the X-Files tone after that. Millennium, Strange Luck, Brimstone, VR.5, etc. Shows that were quirky and fun had no chance.

Oh man, I LOVED this show as a kid. Was definitely my favorite thing on TV. I thought Bowler was so funny and cool and I loved that his outfit looked so much like the X-Man Bishop's costume (coincidence?!?) as I was very into X-Men at the time as well. Of course I had a HUGE crush on Dixie, as anyone who watched this probably did. I distinctly remember that one episode it was implied that the bad guy, Bly, was from the future and had come back in time to obtain the Orb. Maybe this was in the season finale or something because it seemed to have never been addressed. It is fun to think about this show again but I am still so sad we only got one season! Thank you for the nice tribute to Julius Carry at the end. Bruce was big into blogging around the time Julius died and as far as I can recall, he never once acknowledge his former co-star's passing and that always left a bitter taste in my mouth. That being said, I absolutely love the show, snatched it up immediately when it was released on dvd. and oh my, you were spot on about Kelly Rutherford. not only was she a knockout on the show, her and Bruce's chemistry was amazing.

This was an AWESOME show! It definitely got shortchanged by the network! My dad and I used to watch this show (which was a spiritual descendant of Wild Wild West - a show my dad also loved back in the day) and loved the humor and action. Bruce was born to play Brisco and the cast was strong. I had always hoped there would be a TV movie reunion (although having lost Julius Carry, it will definitely be missing that partnership Brisco and Lord Bowler had together). I can picture one set in post WW1 SF; Dixie at some point returned to Brisco and they had a son (Brisco III). Brisco is nearing a crossroads in his life - whether to step back from the bounty hunting biz and let his son continue, or to keep going. Perhaps Lord Bowler could have had a son (or daughter) who turns up, and the fun begins! Of course, Comet, Jr. is also introduced. One little nitpick - you neglected to mention that Billy Drago was the father of actor, Darren E. Burrows who played Ed, on Northern Exposure.

Still miss this show. Found it on DVD, and had to pick it up. And it had some big names in it, before they became big. Also miss our old family friend, the Gunny. Dad met him, when he first went into the Corps, and they started what became a life long friendship. We rode with Bob out to Sturgis a few times, and the last time I ran into him, was at a national event, at the Indian Motorcycles tent, after I had laid my bike down, earlier in the year. Walked over to me in my wheelchair, broken right knee, and spent a couple hours with us, wandering around the event. Met up with him the next morning for breakfast, and I had run across a copy of this show and full metal jacket, at a used sale on the way out. Didn't expect this, but he picked up the bag, to see what we had found, and that was when, as I hadn't seen the pilot, that he had been in it. Both were ones dad liked, that were a birthday present for him. Bob signed both, with a message for him. So glad we got the chance to see each other one last time. Miss you Gunny.

Glad someone else remembered this show. It was great and my first introduction to Bruce.

I never seen this show, as I don't think it was ever shown on UK TV. But I love Bruce Campbell and have been catching up on DVD other cancelled shows like Jack of All Trades. I'd love to see this show ad Campbell is a great Character actor.

It use to come on the channel Sky One when new and I think Bravo for reruns.

Just recently watched the whole series with my kids and they all loved it. The question asked by all was "why was this canceled?"

Thanks for this video flashback. I remember watching this whole series when it came out, but I apparently didn't remember all the details of this series. But I did love the concept and I do like Bruce Cambell's work. He's such an underrated actor. I do own the DVD and I plan to watch it again after seeing this video.

I think Bruce Campbell looks a lot like my dad, so I texted my mom to ask if she knew who he was. I didn't expect her to because she hates horror movies and definitely hasn't seen Evil Dead, but she immediately texted back and said, "Of course! From Hercules." I feel like my parents probably watched this show too, it seems like something they would have really liked, and that's not a bad thing.

He has a cameo in almost everything Sam Raimi Directs. Along with Sam's brother Ted.

I loved this series when I was younger and when I saw the DVD in stores, I bought that faster than you could spit into a spittoon.

After watching the Sliders episode, I had to see if you'd covered my favorite show of all time. Thanks so much for covering this amazing gem of a show! And the Dixie Cousins... AROOGA!

I LOOOOOOVED this show as a kid... It sort of felt like I was the only person who watched it though... (I was in Jr High at the time and had most my Friday's free 😐) I'm glad others remember it fondly too.

FOX in the 90s had so many shows that were ahead of their time. either they couldn't afford the production or they couldn't find an audience. Can you imagine if Brisco County Junior or Space: Above and Beyond had come out like 10 years ago? Not only would they have had better effects and willing audiences, but genre fiction wouldn't be so niche, so they could get high profile actors.

Nowadays people will listen or watch to the dumbest things. Back then they had other things to do, like read books or spend time with their families. Combine this with all your favorite shows, on all the different channels at the same time...either watch a new show, or watch your favorite show. I personally loved this show as a ten year old kid, even though I didn't favor westerns.

I watched this weekly as a kid. Almost cried when it was canceled. I tracked it down during my 2nd deployment, and watched the entire series twice.

No mention of Comet?!? That horse was awesome!
@MaynardCrow Жыл бұрын
Comet the Wonderhorse will always have a place in my heart, despite the fact he was 3 different horses with different specialties. For instance, one was used specifically for shots where he rears up on his back hoofs. Common place thing with horses used in westerns. Some horses are experts in falling down like they are shot, some are gentle tempered and used for slow riding scenes where characters are talking while going through town or something. Bruce mentioned it being 3 different horses on the dvd commentary.
