2:22 _WandaVision_ also had wildly differing episode lengths. But at least there was logic behind having such varied episode lengths. The first three episodes are shorter because they're emulating the sitcoms Wanda grew up watching as a child, which all were never longer than 30 minutes. The last two episodes, meanwhile, were 45 minutes long, which was very crucial to giving the extended flashbacks into Wanda's past the time to breathe.

Something that only hit me now is that one of the big problems was simply that they named it “Secret Invasion”! That story/name was already taken by the comics, and this story was a far cry from that one. Even if that mainly applies to comics fans, a zillion articles were written about the show before its release, and many talked about the comic storyline. So viewers didn’t get what they were hoping for, based on the title. They should have named it something else, to help lower expectations. Since it’s about aliens, conspiracies, government agents and a central couple, call it “Mulder and Skrully”, for all I care! Just don’t have me expecting “Secret Invasion”!

I think Secret Invasion could've been a good sub plot to the overarching Kang Saga. They could've split it into 2 seasons, first season running for the beginning of Phase 4 with it ending with Skrullss being outed and a sense of distrust amongst everyone. Projects spanning until Phase 6 could feature a couple of heroes in each, distrusting one another and even some ending up as Skrulls or even a handful of Super Skrulls. Ending with a second season of Secret Invasion taking place right about the time of Avengers Secret Wars that wraps up the story but leaving in implications for Secret Wars and Kang Dynasty. I think the mistake they made with this Saga is wanting to start right out of the gate with Kang leaving them with confusing storylines and an uncertainty on where stories are to go

Imo less is more in this case. I'm obsessed with how intimate the story feels, how it feels like a slice of the Marvel universe instead of something familiar. Nick felt truly desperate to gamble it all on doing it his way once again, which is usually fine but he came too close to the sun metaphorically so he goes literally next with Saber. It's more interesting to me to see DODC act after this. The Marvels, the Skrulls, the Incursions, they're gonna be so pissed now lol. I would have loved a scene where someone from DODC is like wtf is a Skrull anyway??? And they shift for them to prove they can be trusted.

To me this series felt rushed and way too obvious. While a lot of the secrets were hidden from the characters, the audience saw way too much. At most we wondered for an episode if someone was a skrull or not, and then it was shown. Rhodey was way too obviously a skrull, his attitude change and general hatred for any human he had to deal with was just too big of a tell. It can't be a good mystery/intrigue story if there's no mystery for the audience.

The problem with Secret Invasion and the MCU in general is that it's not following the arc of the people who became fans in 2008. Most of not all of us are adults now and as such have developed the ability to understand and be moved by a complex and we'll crafted idea and story. The MCU continues to churn out content for a less mature audience. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, I just think most of us who thought shows like Secret Invasion would be more grown up like us are starting to come to a realization that were just too old for this shit.

When Nick Fury was told that the Helicarrier was mothballed, I thought this may have been a signal that there was going to be some Agents of SHIELD connectivity. If the storyline of Agents of SHIELD never happened, then the fact that the Helicarrier was mothballed wouldn’t have been news to Nick Fury, as he would have been the last one to use it in Age of Ultron. Thus, I thought we were going to get a post-credits meeting between Fury, Coulson, and Captain Marvel, which would have been fitting as those three were in Captain Marvel together, and Fury and Captain Marvel are going to be in a movie together soon as well.

The biggest problem with "Secret Invasion", was that it was too short a series. It needed to be at least 12 episodes rather than 6. Such few episodes strangled it when it absolutely needed room to breathe and fully flesh out the story and characters. Gravik wasn't very threatening, Talos' death didn't hit like it should have, and the characterization of Gi'ah is paper thin. What we got was 5 very good episodes (for what they were) followed by a finale that didn't even have 40 minutes to wrap things up with a satisfying conclusion. Hell, I would have been happy with a cliffhanger weighted with absolute dread that promised a more intrigue in the future, and left you questioning who might actually be a Skrull in upcoming projects. The idea of Super Skrulls peppered throughout the MCU in the future could have been a game changer if handled properly.

Hard disagree. The story they were trying to tell could've definitely fit into one concise movie. But so much of the series wasted time. Fully fleshing out ideas, especially ones that don't go anywhere, isn't always the play. Sometimes it's better to just cut those plotlines. For example, they tried to make Gravik appear more threatening by having him kill off the rookie Super Skrull. The rookie got a lot of screen time over the series to make us care about him and his death. But, as you said, Gravik wasn't threatening. So, all that time spent on him was wasted. They might as well have just cut it. Also, calling those five episodes good is a controversial but fair opinion, but calling them "very good" is a BIG stretch.

I think Secret Invasion should have been the next Infinity War/Endgame. A 2 movie deal where you COULD get all of the huge name actors and Avengers.

Not sure if this has been explained, but wasn’t Talos’s human form, Ben Mendelssohn, actually Nick Fury’s boss, who he had some history with? So either Talos was running around as a still alive Shield higher up, or has taken the body of Fury’s dead boss?

Gravik was Team Fury until after Endgame, when Fury came back from the blip and then abandoned the Skrulls. That’s when he started replacing people. So Rhodey was himself til at least Endgame.

@@hwuntsu4425 I think he has trouble walking because he's used to using the braces Tony made for him, which he doesn't appear to be wearing in that scene. Also, an injury like that requires check-ups, maybe it was there (and after being promoted to Presi's Best Friendo) that Gravik ordered Raava to take his place. At least, it sounds more strategic than "oh cool, an Avenger is in the hospital, let's take its place for the lulz, maybe we can use it later". I mean, they also would have been risking being found out earlier, if a single fight resulted in his death or near-death.

the Skrull shadow council was a thing long before Gravik came to power, so i don't think the timing of his change of allegiance necessarily has anything to do with when Rhodey was replaced. of course, that COULD be the case, but unfortunately we aren't given enough information to accurately make that assumption.

My issue with writers using multiverse, time travel, and in this case, secret invasion-type in their story is that it is not a challenge. There is always a way to explain away part or even all of it by saying it was not part of the main story. Without story constraint, having to follow through with the storyline even if it was not received well, there is no stake in the game. It's like playing a game and resetting it every time you lose but you keep using the same strategy.
