Hey Noah: 1) Opensea - you can make an initial transaction there on opensea, and it will allow you to create collections and mint for free, using ERC 1155, instead of ERC 721. 2) Opensea is moving to Matic Network, [polygon], which is layer two. Gas fees on this network cost a fraction of a penny vs. eth mainnet gas fees. 3) I'm super interested in working in a DAO - which is a "decentralized autonomous organization" - its like a guild organized on ethereum / layer 2. DAOs - people will be able to keep a guild bank, and vote for what to do with guild bank funds, and collaborate with people who have completed a certain level of competency. Like example: - Have you completed AC1? If so, then, you qualify to be in X tier for discord. You can actually control this sense of people organization within a guild structure using a project called collab land. Basically, you can tell collab land bot "If X NFT exists within this wallet, then organize permissions on discord to allow them into X channel on Discord." This means that the NFTs can act as keys or badges for controlled access within a guild structure. Then, this will organize people into sets of competency, -- where like, if you have completed AC1 and have maybe launched a kickstarter before, and minted an NFT - then you get to collaborate with others who are also able to create / collab within that same category // guild tier. .:. Further guild / dao research: Collab Land Colony.io Daohaus Colony and Daohaus are on xdai sidechain [L2] Daohaus moved also to matic. Have a good day.

Assuming I understood your question corectly and based on what I've observed so far, artists have an option to release how many of their artwork to the market. Single edition is just that, they released only one edition of their artwork; and multiple edition means they released more than one, for example 50 edition of their artwork. This is similar to for an example, a toy company printing 1000 toys/card, or 3D artists releasing a 3D print of their digital sculpture, they get to decide how many will get printed, they could print just one, or they could print a lot and sell them to multiple people. (3D artists could sell their 3D prints along with NFTs too if they want, I've seen some NFTs are already being sold together with physical bonus) "What determines what is "the original"?" The artists decides that, with the help of the blockchain, or the system, or the code, I dunno it's tech stuffs. Basically NFT's code is like an online ledger where all the people can verify the ownership and how many edition has been released. One thing I'd like to add is I'd say this is the time where people should stop the discrimination against digital artists and digital artworks. They've been under fire for the longest time with people saying "digital art isn't a real art", so personally I rejoice for the fact that digital artists could now stand at a "more" equal footing with traditional artists.

Put very, very simply: NFT's are like digital trading cards. Just like theres a market for collectibles in trading card games theres a market for collectible NFT's. "Aren't the artworks just able to be copied and downloaded from the internet?" Put simply, yes, however its similar to proxies in trading cards, which are printed out copies of the card, not the authentic card itself. And even in the case of fakes there are ways to tell what is original and what is fake. In the case of trading cards, an authentic could be worth $5-$10-$1000 while the proxy/ fake is worth just about as much as the paper it was printed on. "Then whats the point of buying the NFT if I can just have the 'proxy/ fake' for free?" Well for starters, you get to use it! If you buy an NFT you can use it in marketing, gaming, whatever. Similar to trading cards, if you have an authentic card you can use it in tournament play... or you can put it on a shelf and display as a bragging chip, to each their own. Once you possess the NFT you can now use it to trade or keep or what have you. I hope this kind of cleared things up for everyone!

I think my biggest moral issues with it, other than the massive environmental concern (which shuts down any interest I could ever have with it immediately, regardless of whether there are potentially viable alternatives now, like Tezos) is it's just the rich getting richer. It's investment, it's not for the people even if you can say that "the artists get paid" - they don't, it's not actually a platform for artists, it's a platform for investors, and well-off artists just happen to be a party to it. I couldn't think of anything worse than taking the problems with the physical art scene, bringing them to digital, and then strap a bunch of tech-bro shit to it. It's hegemonic crap. But it's very clear by how you frame everything that we're on absolutely different wavelengths from every perspective, be it environmental, or capital. (I would also do some research into how carbon offsets often don't functionally work, and even when they do, their impact is delayed to ineffective timeframes.) For example, you have emitted roughly 2 years worth of an EU resident's electricity consumption. cryptoart.wtf/#address=0xd0c64800057c7dc5543d8af5845fa961ba32330b If that doesn't make you feel bad, I don't know what will.
@TeamBradley3 жыл бұрын
Totally understandable! Did you read that other article I linked in the description? Any thoughts on all of that? Also: since you even have problems with artists making money in the physical art scene, how do you suggest these artists make money? Which avenues do you consider free of all capitalistic concerns?
@vertxxyz3 жыл бұрын
@@TeamBradley that it's a heck of a lot of words. It's kinda bizarre to compare the energy impact of a t-shirt, (including the energy cost of actually fucking wearing it) to the cost of an investment platform with zero physical benefit. And yet you participate in society, curious? As I said though, the environmental impact is ultimately avoidable if switches are made. I don't trust etherium-based tech to make the jump soon, as they've shown they are slow as hell in that regard. As for capitalism and the physical art scene, sadly we're stuck with it. There are plenty of viable ways to make money selling all art that partakes in it to all sorts of depths. This one being the most bizarre to me. The value it brings is negligible/non-existent to people who need it, and yet the value to those who don't, it's unparalleled. It's why so many jump into the pot, to make that quick few thousand before it tanks, or to invest early as it pyramid schemes its way into a big crypto FOMO pile. I think the quality of the work that often finds a home in the platform shows its not about any artistic worth, and is purely an investment vehicle that'll likely be thrown to the wayside whenever speculation fails. I just hope it emboldens smaller artists to make more interesting platforms now people are grasping at the idea that digital art can have a place on a digital marketplace that isn't purely functional.

I don't get it.. it's digital art.. ones and zeroes.. absolutely anyone can just copy and paste it. duplicate it. Also I think I see your old art on the link. Why would someone buy old stuff that they have already seen and maybe downloaded in full resolution to their pc? And once someone has downloaded the original full res picture, they can just enlist it as their own art and sell it to someone, claiming to be you or someone.. This all still makes no sense to me :D Now a completely different story would be if this NFT art would be completely entirely original, very high commercial production quality, very valuable to create and it would be super well protected. with like 256bit codes and some usb key that is sent along with the art to the buyer.. THEN I would understand the value. Then it would really be a one-off collectible item that no one else can access and just duplicate :)

Well, this would require a business team to create a platform and manage the transactions and come up with unique good security system. The whole NFT thing should have been like this from the beginning.
@MartianManhunterNumberOne3 жыл бұрын
@@CoyotePark Well, if you create a digital painting that you would like to add value to then obviously don't upload a high-quality copy of your file for the public to access? If you don't share your original high quality art then no one else is going to have it. All someone can find is a lower-quality, low resolution, thumbnail.ish sized image. You can't print that low resolution, you can't display it in good quality in your home, you can't "hang it" because you can't create a fine copy without the "original" high-res file. So it functions exactly like the real world. Anyone can physically paint an incredible oil painting, but it's not going to automatically be worth very much. And you don't see a whole lot of stickman drawings in the Louvre because well, it's a stickman. It's not very interesting, just like how a stickman painting by Leonardo da Vinci wouldn't be worth very much because it would also just be a stickman. Also, the platform to create, manage, distribute, etc etc your sold NFTs also already exists. So it's really just a simple "sign-up" process to an already existing platform. You don't have to do any coding or anything, and you definitely don't need a business team to get started.

@@MartianManhunterNumberOne No I mean that once the person who buys the full-res art has gotten it.. downloaded it.. he/she can freely duplicate it a trillion times and upload it all over the web and sell it as if it is her/his own. That's what I meant. No one stops you from duplicating the full-res original digital art, making it worthless basically I think.. I hope you understand. So this whole NFT thing doesn't quite make sense to me fully. I would understand it if the digital art piece would be so protected, that only the buyer has total access to it and absolutely no one else has. Thus making it truly rare. Although the buyer can then just re-upload the art and start duplicating it all over the internet as well.. hm.. :/

@@CoyotePark I don't think anyone is going to spend money on an NFT, then go through the "work" of becoming a somewhat recognizable digital artist that someone will actually want to commission and buy your copied artwork. You can't make a copy of the NFT and nobody pays lots of money for digital paintings made from an unknown artist. You could give out the copies for free and ruin the value of the artwork but you are the one who paid for it and the artist as already gotten paid so you would be losing money. It would be like buying the Mona Lisa and then setting it on fire.

How is it better than selling a Hi-Res file of your art? It has 0 environmental concerns and doesn't have high fees. Is it because the speculation makes the price rise? Looks very similar to auctions where people will buy and sell art for millions of dollars out of pure speculation. I don't think I'd feel comfortable participating in something similar to that, make the rich richer with my own art.
@TeamBradley3 жыл бұрын
You could definitely do that! The appeal here is that you're giving someone the possibility of reselling it later on. That doesn't _have_ to be seen as speculation, either. It can be investing. That someone could make money on something later on down the road could encourage a lot of people to invest who might not otherwise buy a high-res file. Furthermore, and I talk about this in the video, _you_ would actually make a percentage of the profit when your piece is resold. So you're also making yourself richer down the road! :) Just some thoughts!

@@TeamBradley yea the article sounds like a lot of 'whataboutism' to me. In my opinion the problem isn't found or solved in the comparison to other bad behavior. Looking at NFTs is like looking at a very simple moral dilemma: Press this red button and you have the chance to get a lot of money, but every time you press it someone dies ... oh you already pressed it 1000 times. great. - obviously just a metaphor. So my personal problem with NFTs is not the fact that it is bad for the environment, or that some people make lots of money, or that some people actually believe that there were thousands of art collectors just waiting to buy your 30 Minute Cinema 4D daily. It is the combination of all the factors within the current situation of a multiple global crises. It shows that no one gives a sh*t about anything except money. - To be clear there would most likely be a point where the reward would be so promising that I would also consider pressing the big red button. But I would be absolutely ashamed. --- NFT and Crypto is not the future it is not the long awaited liberation of the small artist, it is just the next step for some people to make money and to give a crap about anything around them. In which format you upload your files to become NFTs, jpg? Psd? You put the amount of NFTs you want for sale, like 50 NFTs of one design. The price you put for those designs changes by the number of NFTs available? And you gotta pay more if you put more of those? I mean I guess it's obvious, I don't know though. These NFTs are digital right? Only digital. What's the difference from buy and bid? I mean I saw you have already a price for your NFTs, if I click bid is because I am offering you less than the amount you ask for? I don't get why it says in one nft you sell like 0.5 ethereum / 90 usd and another one says 0.1 / 182 usd, I would think the more ethereum the more dollars cost? Sorry for making to much questions, I don't expect you to answer all of them, thanks anyway, it looks interesting and weird

probably because NFTs are extremely unsustainable and dangerous for the planet and getting in on them now is an obvious get-rich-quick scheme

Controversial subject by a controversial person? I'm guessing most people didn't even bother watching.

@@ShadowLuigi147 there are thousands of other industries that are far more harmful to the environment and they are taking steps to making NFTs more sustainable. Only time time will tell if it is a "get rich quick scheme" but with how cryptocurrency is at the moment it's got a good chance of sticking around.

Thanks for the info! Just heard about this stuff recently and it's always helpful to hear new perspectives. Unrelated side note, I bought some of your awesome photo reference packs on Gumroad about a year ago before I even knew you were an artist LOL then I discovered who you were shortly after and been following ever since. Love your work, love your journey, keep inspiring!

Are there any calculations so far of how much money you invest vs how much can you earn from this on average? It seems monst ppl won't earn anything at all while others will take most ofit. Also is there a pattern of which artworks are the most succesful? It's all very confusing so far XD
@TeamBradley3 жыл бұрын
I imagine that's _way_ too variable to put a number on. Cause you're right: like most things, some people make a lot of money and most people don't make much. As for a pattern, I really don't know. I see large editions do well and I see #1/1 originals do well. I imagine it depends on the market, what kind of work you create, what sort of collectors/fans you already have, etc. Still trying to figure all this out myself too. :)

It bothers me where Art is going because of "trends"... I'm not even well established. I have a lot of potential to create, I cannot sleep days and nights because I have guilt about not drawing and painting everyday.....
@TeamBradley3 жыл бұрын
No guilt! Draw & paint however much makes you happy. :)

@@TeamBradley thanks for replying. It means a lot coming from you as I love your art and your teaching. :'/ ngl I've had days in the past two years where I went to dark mental places and watching At eternity's gate and seeing Van Gogh's love and how the film showed the character's/artists love for nature made me feel the same way and gave me motivation. Life is so hard sometimes when you just simply want to create....

I want to send words of encouragement for my future self who will, a year from now, be very confused while trying to file taxes that include freelance work, unemployment insurance, my Etsy shop and (hopefully) earnings from NFTs

Another solution to the NFT enviornmental issue could be to donate a portion of the proceeds to an enviornmental foundation, or a green energy fund? At the end of the day, it's still way worse to print paper money lol

"at the end of the day, other thing bad so this bad thing fine" has never really been an argument The environmental impact is solved by people realising this is a pyramid scheme they can avoid. If they really want to support art and get something they can say belongs to them they can get a commission.

Fascinating stuff, no idea why you're getting downvoted tbh. Even though I've dipped my toes into crypto before, and had the unpleasant experience of surprising gas fees, I have never heard this concept properly explained although I've heard about it previously. The gas fees are by far the most challenging thing about this whole process, as it means your listing have inherent risk in them if they're not sold, although I really enjoy the idea of it. Going to be very interesting to see what kind of projects sell and what doesn't - if there are any patterns in sales and themes. And of course if this is going to change the whole art game. Good stuff!

lol I'm not surprised. People are bent on hating NFTs and won't hear otherwise. Also plenty of my haters will dislike anything I do. It happens. :) But yeah, I'm really interested to see where it goes in the next few years!
