As someone who traditionally hated profs, i remember cata arch being one of the only times i took part due to the cool and unique rewards that, most importantly, significantly impacted my pve gameplay.

It rewarding strong lvl 85 BoA gear was also amazing. Made it worth doing past the start of the expac since you could get some really strong BoA items for alts at 85 as well.

Great content as always. I would like to add, that the original way to do Archaeology was as follows: Level to 100 via survey only. After 100, you get 5 skill points per solve, but not all races have items you want, so you would solve Orc, Vrykul, Nerubian, Draenei, and Dwarf or Fossil while you bank massive amounts of Troll, NE, and Tol'vir Fragments. Then once you hit max level archeology, you'd hopefully have 1000-2000 fragments to instantly solve for Jinrok, Tyrande's, or the Tol'vir items. Later in Dragon Soul or so, Blizzard decided they didn't like this and put a cap of 200 fragments of one race at a time making the grind EVEN LONGER because now you would have to hit max level first and then grind out the fragments. Please everyone... PLEASE ask Blizzard to remove the 200 fragment cap on Archeology! Also, would be really nice if Archeology was in the Pre-patch just like Inscription was in the WOTLK pre-patch!

Is there a conclusive awnser regards to how many fragments we will be expecting to receive from digging up a digsite? What I could find was that the latest update they made to the system was in Cataclysm Patch 4.3.0 (2011-11-29): The number of fragments per survey was increased to 5-9. (it used to be 3-6 at higher skilllevels?

if you are going for the sword for example, dont use any troll fragments until you reach max Archaeology. its way more annoying to farm troll later on, cause you get less of troll fragment sides.

@@JS-be8ll yes i think you can, atleast thats what it said when i looked it up, but you need 425 skill and at that point you can wait until it drops and you can reach max and skill with the troll fragments to max.

One thing I've noticed is there doesn't seem to be any 359 rewards for hunters, rogues or feral druids. casters & warriors seem to have a tonne of great archaeology loot. definitely something they should add on imo. no reason not to.

I remember og Cata wasting my time doing this profession on every toon through the whole expansion and got…nothing. None of those super epic pieces of gear ever dropped for me. It was such a waste of time.

I did it the first time round. It was... not fun once I got into the grind. That being said, I was in my mid 20's back then. Maybe older more chill me will appreciate it. And the rewards are cool. I'll either not touch it at all or I'll farm it to oblivion, there is no middle ground.

When Cata first launched, I was maining my Hunter. DPS queues for Heroics were about 45 minutes or so. I used that time to plow through Archaeology. I thought it was delightful! I ended up with the bone raptor mount and pet who were adorable together. Also, bringing a keystone to a Heroic always made you look good to the group. I feel like they're going to sell for so much gold in Classic though that it won't be worth it using them that way.

Stat that increases the gimmick of the class. Examples. Fire Mage: fire spells create a dot that deals damage based on the damage of the largest hitting spell. Elemental Shaman: your spells have a chance to duplicate themselves for 60% damage

Honestly, depending on your class and spec, you may still be asking that question at the end of Cata. For some classes its such an insignificant stat, for others its so build defining that you'll be stacking it as hard as possible. Basically, as mentioned above, its a bit of a gimmick stat that varies wildly. Usually the good versions are some variation of increasing your damage by a percentage.

@@mindblown42069 I "think" Boomie Mastery gives a bonus to Wrath and Starfire to targets effected by Insect Swarm and Moonfire (respectively). A little bit like how some talents work now, it just scales more. And I don't remember it being especially strong - just stacking Intellect (which gives spellpower in Cata onwards) is the way to go. Mage works differently, I think each spec gets charges of some sort of magic shield that procs to deal bonus damage under certain circumstances. Though I don't fully remember, I just get the feeling it was a bit fiddly and again not better then Intellect stacking (at least not outside of PvP, I think the Mastery adds a lot of potential for burst damage which might be useful when trying to finish off other players)..

Wrath is the casual, catch-up expansion. At least in Cata the heroics were challenging and didn’t reward epics.
