The Viking Tactics is another good option for a quick-adjust. About the same price as the BFG and with the same pad/no-pad option, but with a spring-loaded cam adjuster like Ferro Concepts' Slingster. I believe both Ferro and V-Tac offer a choice of either low-cost plastic triglides (what I've always chosen) or steel versions for a few bucks more. not very impressed with mine. padding sucks. it doesn't even fill out the entire area for the padding. slides around and easily gets mangled. cuts into your neck even if you have some sort of barrier for your neck. The quick adjust isn't very quick, and tightening it requires extra effort or a second hand to be quick. Its thick, heavy; the buckles are thick and heavy also. 2 other folks in my gun club have them and have the same complaints. @@dexm2010 I wanna get a battle rifle by end of year. You like the 91?
@dexm20103 жыл бұрын
@@Dirtkid98505 Yes, it is my favorite rifle. They are not for everyone, but the biggest gripes most people have about them are the weight, the long length of pull for the factory stocks, and a fairly heavy trigger (around 10 lbs or so). The magazines for the G3/PTR 91 are still very affordable, and plentiful. The Spuhr stock takes care of the length of pull issue, although it is not the most comfortable stock to shoot irons with (you'll have to remove the cheek riser to do this), and with a shorter length of pull, the weapon "feels" lighter than it really is. I have not tried it yet, but there is a new HK SP5/PTR/G3 trigger group made by a company called "Shooting Star" that sounds very promising. I think the trigger pull is supposed to be less than 5 lbs. This same company has made triggers for IWI Tavors and ARs as well. If you end up getting one, try to get one with a welded rail on it already, and if possible, see if you can inspect the rail in person to make sure it's square just in case. Spuhr does make an excellent "screw on" rail for G3s and PTRs that do not have a rail welded on already, and this is the rail that the Portuguese Navy went with, but ideally a welded on picatinny rail is best. Hopefully Hop will do an update soon on his PTR with the changes he has made to it--he should have some good data points to share.

@@dexm2010 Thanks! I'm a bigger guy I can grip the front sight post of a 20 inch AR with A2 stock while wearing armor. So LOP isn't a big factor for me unless the G3 is very unusual. I've got an older BFG Vickers Sling. Best sling I've got. *PERIOD.* IDK about the ones hitting the market today, but if they're not up to par, the Magpul MS4 works in the exact same way the Vickers does. You simply need to poke a hole in the plastic tri glide and thread a piece of 550 cord through it so that you have something to grab on to when you need to slack the sling. It's an easy modification to do, no big deal. The Magpul MS4 is built like a goddamn tank, btw. I don't forsee this thing failing at any time in the future.

I've got an OG first gen vickers sling that is in ACU Digital. (Which outta tell you how old it is). It is noticeably better quality than the latest multicam tropic gen 3 I just got. The hardware is thicker and stronger, the adjustment is smoother, and has been through hell. My newest gen 3 feels cheap. I just can't describe it any other way, I can't articulate why, it just is. Who knows 🤷🏼♂️
@225degrees3 жыл бұрын
Feel is not a quantifiable value. BFG has changed their hardware to some more low profile Acetel buckles. The strength is still there. In fact, all it has to do is hold the rifle against your body, how strong do you think it needs to be?

@moss87023 жыл бұрын
@@225degrees no. Cause the sling usually has a QD buckle for you to detach. I speak from experience both witnessing and having my sling get caught by both those ways. It's easy to say "screw the sling" before you have to continue an op that you don't know when the end of it will be. Or if you need to traverse more walls/obstacles with your weapon. It's a crucial piece of gear. The examples I talked about I've seen multiple times and it never injured the individual or damaged the weapon.
@225degrees3 жыл бұрын
@@moss8702 Good for you. No one was injured and no weapon was damaged in the incidents you saw. It can happen, it does happen. Your sling needs to break away before it injures you or damages the rifle. Either way, the sling in question is no less structurally sound than older models. A different look, different hardware or different textile does not equate to lower quality. Short of proper destructive testing, all the whining is nothing but noise.

It’s spring 2024 and I notice a difference in the webbing. I’ve had a gen 2 BFG Vickers non-padded sling for several years in coyote brown. Recently I ordered two new ones, direct from BFG, in ranger green. These are the gen 3 as described (flag stripes are outlined instead of solid bars). I can feel a distinct difference in the rigidity and flexibility of the webbing. The gen 3 bends easier and is less stiff. To be honest, I never saw the point in spending more than 15 bucks for a sling. In active duty, we had the simplest two point slings. They just worked. Got a 3 point sling once when an armoror buddy got a few of them in. The one I got broke. Still not sure if I just didn't use it right. But I wasn't crazy about it when it was working anyway. Surprisingly, the two quick adjust 2 point slings I bought off Amazon actually seemed a little better in quality than what I was issued in active duty and they were significantly cheaper than the stuff advertised by Magpul, Blue Force, etc. Bottom line is that you don't need an ultra comfortable/expensive sling. It is just a strap to hang your rifle. It's not like you are using it to hold a guitar to play a multi hour set. You probably aren't even going to ever ruck or March with it. I would rather put the extra money to more ammo.

At this point, I don't trust anything I don't stress test, even made in the USA from well respected brands. I bought a Magpul MS4 last week and new out of the package, one of the QD swivel wouldn't stay in when force was applied, pulling the rifle up by the sling was enough to cause it to pop out out of the cup. Thought it was just the QD cup on my rifle going bad at first until I did a swap test. Found out the tolerance on one of the QD swivel on the sling was just loose enough that it didn't like a locking QD cup. The other (good) QD on the sling didn't care whether 360 or locking cup, stayed put even with me pulling on it with force to try to get it pop out. Fortunately the QD with the loose tolerance is the one that's removeable from the sling and not the one that's sewn in place.

IMO it’s cheaper and easier to buy your own webbing, cam buckle, and tri-glides and make your own. It takes all of fifteen minutes and costs around $15.

SOB tactical makes great slings I’d add them to the list. Your observations were right it’s just the vickers name. it’s still just a sling they aren’t crazy better or much worse. Just cost more
