yeah, everything Voldemort does around the Malfoys is to punish Lucius - Lucius was a great follower before, but after Voldemort's fall he didn't go seek him, he was enjoying his privileged life, only came to Voldemort when he (Voldy) came back, then Voldy discovered one of his horcruxes (diary) was destroyed because Lucius just gave it away to bully the Weasleys, then he broke the prophecy so he is punishing him through Draco and by leaving him in Azkaban (he could have easily broken him out), then later we will see hos Voldy takes Lucius' wand - for a wizard to be without their wand is humiliating and disabeling (because they are pretty useless without magic), and then using their home as headquarter with Bellatrix as Voldy's right hand - she commands him (Lucius) in his own house and home (which she knows is humiliating for Lucius and does it anyway and with pleasure because she is obsessed with Voldy)! All to humiliate Lucius.

47:41 In the books, Harry idolizes the Half-Blood Prince and regards him as a genius. He is mesmerized by the knowledge and teachings contained within. (Teenage Snape INVENTING spells that eventually made circulation is pretty astonishing.) Deeper still, Harry is comforted by the fact that he finds the Half-Blood Prince similar to himself, and even the way the Half-Blood Prince views and teaches Defense Against The Dark Arts is the same as Harry during the Order of The Phoenix. In Harry’s words The Half-Blood Prince “had become his guide and friend.” He did not want to part with it, not only because it was his cheat sheet, but because he felt a connection to the author. It’s part of the betrayal Harry feels when it is revealed that it was Snape all along-the man who just murdered Dumbledore.

to explain Sectumsempra: this spell, invented by Snape, causes the area of the body the caster points at to be sliced up (like wounds inflicted by a sharp sword slash) leaving deep wounds. Because it‘s dark magic the wounds won‘t heal correctly unless the counter curse is used (which Snape does). That means Draco could have easily bled out if Snape hadn‘t saved him. Most impressive: it shows off how powerful of a wizard Snape is, as he was only a teenager when he invented it.

@@di3486Nope. It's been confirmed many times, Lily did not know what she was doing, and did not cast a spell to achieve it. It was the act of throwing herself in front of Harry which activated one of the Deep Laws. As for why it is so uncommon despite a mother's love being very common, Voldemort made a crucial mistake which activated it - He allowed her to leave. Thanks to Snape's request, Voldemort twice gave Lily the chance to stand aside, but she _chose_ to remain, _chose_ to die. The _choice_ is what did it, and that's what makes the event so rare, because very few people intent on murdering someone give someone else the real option to stand aside. Lily had no idea what it would do. This was _ancient_ magic, _deep_ lore, magic Voldemort knew about but forgot about in the moment. One of the themes of Harry Potter is "The power of choice". Here's some help with the blood status levels in HP if you don't already know by now. Half-blood is when one of your parents is a witch or wizard, and your other parent is a muggle or a muggle born witch or wizard. Muggle born is someone who who is a witch or wizard born to muggle parents. Pureblood is a witch or wizard born to a witch and wizard with multiple generations on both sides being witches and wizards. Mudblood is a real nasty slur used against muggle borns, also kinda half bloods but mainly muggle borns, saying they have dirty, tainted blood.
@JonFardi Жыл бұрын
There is also the "magic" counterpart of muggleborn, which is called Squib, that is a non-magical person born to magical parents (e.g. Argus Filch). It is thought that a muggleborn like Hermione, who has non-magical parents, probably had a grandparent who was a squib. Squibs tend to be discriminated by the magical world and isolate themselves, living with the muggles, until one of their descendant has the "recessive" magical gene reactivated ☝🏼😃

It is probably done like this in the film to give Harry's feelings through his face since there is no narration here and we can't hear his thoughts. But I disagree, it could have been done much cleverer. It could be that the paralysis spell Dumbledore did on Harry doesn't have the full effect because he is weak and disarmed at the last second. So, Harry can't talk, move or do anything to save him, but we still see his reaction from his face. Maybe they didn't go for this route because it requires good acting, but I think Daniel Radcliffe could have pulled it off. Or maybe they simply didn't think of this solution 😅

@@brysontipton1893 actually, it doesn't. He was conceived through a relationship that was only sustained through a love potion that Voldemorts mother Merope Gaunt slipped to the muggle, Tom Riddle. In the Harry Potter universe, a child conceived by means of a love potion is incapable of loving anyone or anything. The closest Voldemort ever came to actually caring about a living being was Nagini, and the only reason why is she was something I can't say because I don't wish to spoil for them. He is also, on his mother's side, incredibly INCREDIBLY inbred with the Gaunts having children with siblings, first cousins, parents, etc to extend the bloodline. Merope herself was hideous, cross-eyed, and marred by centuries of incest. Not only was he from an incestuous evil family of people who had a habit of producing psychopaths because of their inbreeding, he was also 100% incapable of love or compassion because of the magic involved with a love potion and what it entails with procreation. I'd also like to add that as a young child at that orphanage before even finding out he was a wizard, he used his magic to lower kids down from the cliff with him and into the cave where he tortured them. Everyone was terrified of him, and the woman at the orphanage was hopeful that he would be at Hogwarts permanently and showed a sense of dread when she learned he would be coming back every summer. His magical incapability to love was actually what caused him to be cast out of Harry at the ministry in The Order of the Phoenix, and what made Voldemort decide to never attempt to possess Harry again. Feeling the emotions of love within Harry while possessing his body was unbearable.

The books handled Dumbledors death scene much differently. When he realized that the Death Eaters are coming up the tower to him, he casts the paralyzing spell on Harry and throws the invisibility cloak on him. Which physically stops Harry from being able to do anything instead of it being an actual choice. Also it made it apparent that Snape did NOT know Harry was there. The movie added the whole bit where Snape interacts with Harry and tells him to keep quiet.

Some people have a theory that he unintentionally made a horcrux after his fight with Aberforth & Grindelwald; if you watch SuperCarlinBrothers they do a deep dive that Dumbledore made 3 horcruxes but then took steps to destroy them before his actual death, it's involved, a bit convoluted , but interesting to watch.

Tom Riddle's mother died in childbirth. His father was from a wealthy Muggle family, who she had fallen in love with, and used a love potion to secure his devotion. This greatly angered her father and brother who, along with his mother, were the last living heirs of Slytherin. Tom couldn't accept that, being magical, his mother would have succumbed to the weakness of death and that, combine with his loathing of muggles and muggle born wizards, led him down his path. And despite Dumbledore saying the horcrux's could be anything, Riddle decided that only object with a strong magical history were worthy of containing a piece of his soul, which is why relics belonging to the founders of Hogwarts were used as horcruxes. You might also be interested to know that the attack on the Weasley family home happened only in the movie; in the book, some care is taken to bring up the subject of home protection among the magical families. Also in the book is a commentary on how, at a certain level of skill, the practice of magic becomes very different, far removed from simple spell casting, where some spells require great sacrifice of body and/or mind, and certain acts can give one practitioner more power in certain situations. There is a good example in the seventh book, but I don't want to be spoiling anything for you.

I'd heard that the battle at Burrow is because they couldn't properly film the battle at Hogwarts that should've happened at the end of it. Dame Maggie Smith, who was one of the main people there, was recovering from a successful battle with breast cancer, but she was still in the wheelchair most of the times when she wasn't on-screen, and couldn't film such extensive scenes that that final battle would need. I mean, it's still a shit movie that focuses on romances nobody cares about or needs, rather than THE LITERAL PLOT.

By the way, Tom had already made a Horcrux (the ring) when he asked Slughorn. He actually wanted to know if it is possible to make 7 Horcruxes.
@chris...9497 Жыл бұрын
SIX horcruxes. Split your soul into seven pieces, put one piece in each of six objects to make six horcruxes, leave the seventh in your own body, to keep a presence in this life, to keep your original body animated. The destruction of Voldemort's body when the killing curse rebounded from baby Harry led to 13 years of trying to maneuver things into place so Voldemort could have a body once again. But each time one of Voldemort's horcruxes was destroyed, a little piece of him quite literally died.

FYI: All people in the HP Universe are human, not just muggles. TERMINOLOGY • Muggle = from a non-magical family • Pure Blood = from an all magical family • Half Blood = .one parent is muggle • Mudblood = insulting word for someone muggle-born (like the "n" word). Hermione explained this in one of the previous movies. • Squib = born into a magical family but has no magic (Mrs. Fig in Order of the Phoenix who brought Harry and Dudley home after dementor attack AND Mr. Filch, the Hogwarts caretaker are squibs). This one is never explained in the movies.

Half-blood is also where one parent is muggleborn like in Harry’s case.
@natashamcfarlane5654 Жыл бұрын
half blood and pureblood are a little more complex. You can only be pure blood if you are the fourth generation of untainted magical blood. so if you had a half-blood with one muggle parent and one witch/wizard, you would have to marry a pureblood, and so do your children, and children's children, and THEN their children (generation 4) can be considered a pureblood. Which is why they aren't all that common one half-blood or muggle born in there would reset the count. But that's too complex for people who are still struggling with verbiage lol

Tragic backstory of Voldemort's origin that was omitted in the movie. HOUSE OF GAUNT -The Gaunts is a pure-blood wizarding family, although they are a very poor family, they prided themselves as descendants of the great Salazar Slytherin. They're consisted of the father Marvolo, the son Morfin and a daughter named Merope. Merope was constantly abused by her family, and was smitten by the son of a rich muggle family, Tom Riddle (not to be confused with Voldemort, it is his father). One day, Tom was given a drink by Merope to refresh him from his daily stroll, but it was spiked with a love potion. He fell inlove with the witch and they eloped. Then one day, Merope stopped using love potion in hopes that Tom might've been fallen for her over time for real, but he left once he was no longer bewitched. Heartbroken and pregnant with her son, she sold her only remaining family heirloom, Slytherin's locket (over time, Voldemort hunted it back and turned it into one of the Horcrux, it's the one Harry and Dumbledore found in the cave, or so they think but someone beat them to it and replaced it with a fake). The baby was named Tom Marvolo Riddle, after his father and grandfather. Merope left baby Tom in an orphanage because she lost the will to live and died a little later. Some say that someone who was born out of fake love (love potion or manipulated) will never know what true love will be, somehow explaining why Voldemort is what he is. Some time later, Tom Riddle (Voldemort) after he graduated from Hogwarts, hunted down the place of his origin, killed Marvolo (his grandfather), took his ring (and made it into a Horcrux, the one destroyed by Dumbledore later on), framed his uncle Morfin to make it look like he's the one who killed Marvolo and was sent to Azkaban to rot. He also slaughtered the whole Riddle family. The graves we see in HP4 are the Riddles.

I read the book when it came out, and I cried so much when Dumbledore died, because in the movie they do not show really the funeral. I’m the book however, they describe the funeral, and then Fawkes flies away with what is described as a really sad chant. The movie missed out on showing however why Voldemort is like he is. His mother used a love potion to enchant his father, and therefore he is a child born without the presence of love in their relationship. That kinda twisted him, because what his mother did was a corruption.

One of the most underappreciated moments in this movie is when they show Draco on the Astronomy Tower, contemplating an action. It is making clear that his comment on the train was not meant as a joke. What a miserable situation that boy is in, having to pay his father's debts, and all the while he is trying to figure out how, he can't talk to anyone. There are so many subtle hints in this movie that tell a bigger story when one stops to think about it, Tom Riddle twisting the ring on his hand, Remus sensing his creator, Malfoy's attempt to sneak into Slughorn's party etc. That is why this is one of my favourite movies in the series, it has more levels than the obvious.

I know it’s hard to believe and it sucks but that’s the reality 😭 -The student that Dumbledore referred to who ‘once sat in this very castle’ was Tom Riddle. Dumbledore even says his name straight after. -Also nah, Dumbledore didn’t split his soul or anything like that or put anything in his wand. Only Voldemort made his horcruxes -Draco was chosen to murder Dumbledore because Voldemort is still mad at Lucius for failing to bring the prophecy to him. As an act of punishment, Voldemort gave Draco the mission of killing Dumbledore believing that Draco would fail and then Voldemort would therefore punish or kill Draco for it -Yeah basically the vanishing cabinet was used by Draco to test out bringing the death eaters to Hogwarts but the transporting wasn’t working properly, which added more stress to his mission, not to mention not already wanting to do it in the first place

59:16 Pudgey is right to ask this question. Why Draco? Voldemort could have easily picked Bellatrix and she would have happily done it. I think there are mainly 2 reasons. *_1) It's easier for Draco to get close to Dumbledore than it is fore Bellatrix who is an escaped convict._* She can't move as freely as Draco, and even if she could she'd have to hide to get close whereas Draco can hide in plain sight. *_2) It's about punishing the Malfoys._* Unlike Bellatrix, whose devotion Voldemort does not doubt, in part because she killed Sirius, the Malfoys have disappointed him. I don't think Voldemort suspects them of switching sides, but he is disappointed by their constant failures to accomplish the missions he gave them. And since Lucius is now in Azkaban, Voldemort deliberately chose Malfoy to fulfil the mission of killing Dumbledore to punish his family. You could see in Draco's mother's eyes that she was afraid for her son, and I suspect his dad Lucius is too.

It always bothered me so much that they didn't explain the whole 'Halfblood Prince' bit in this movie - it basically makes the whole plotline kinda pointless. Don't wanna spoil it for you though, in case you ever decide to read the books 😄

Ikr, seriously, I always forget how much this movie strayed from the books until I watch it from the perspective of someone who doesn’t know the story. I find the whole franchise is incomplete without the books, like it was made for someone who read the books first rather than someone who’s first diving in. I love the movies but it’s just things like this that bother me as well.

@@meganega123 Right? And even though the movie looks amazing, it always bothered me how they just left out all these crucial parts and so much key information, that were all SO important to the story. If you've never read the books, you're basically missing out on a huge part of the story as a whole. It feels like they really underestimated the immense importance of the 6th book (and movie), and just kinda used it as a "filler", because their focus was on the grand finale.

The Malfoy's were targeted because Lucius was kinda like Voldie's right hand man before he fell the first time then he gave that diary to Ginny in the second movie without really knowing what it was after Voldie trusted him with it and he basically threw it away because he wanted to go after the Weasley's and it ended up getting destroyed then he failed his mission to retrieve the prophecy and it broke. He ended up getting caught and thrown in Azkaban because of that failed mission so Voldie wanted to punish Lucius' family for his failures by giving Draco the task of killing Dumbledore, one he wasn't meant to be successful in. The Malfoy's were basically a joke to the other Death Eaters by this point. You'll see in the next two movies just how far they've fallen from grace. Also sorry if this makes fuck all sense, it's late here in NZ 😅

I am sure someone has mentioned it but there are several documentaries made about the making, casting etc. In particular the HBO 20th anniversary reunion is pretty well done.

I'd love to see them react to the BTS documentaries for each movie!! But hopefully, they'll at least react to the 20th anniversary reunion 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Dumbledore`s bird is a Phoenix. People often use this phrase after a bad situation in life is behind them, and they feel great relief: " I feel great. Just like a Phoenix from the ashes."

To me, the Dumbledore portrayal in this movie is the best out of all the movies in the series. This is the Dumbledore we should've gotten all along, especially in the 4th movie. Calm, cool, and collected, even in the face of death. Even the opening scenes where he takes Harry to meet Slughorn are PERFECT! The softness in his voice, his demeanor, yet still outsmarting Slughorn by playing to his weakness for Harry's family. It's just fantastic all around.
@evatesche Жыл бұрын
Agreed. As much as I liked Richard Harris, I think he wouldn't have been able to pull off that part of Dumbledore as well as Michael Gambon did.
@MrThedestroy3r Жыл бұрын
@@evatescheexactly this. I also think Gambon lets the viewer feel Dumbledore's tormented side. He looks calm, but worried and somehow "real". Concerned by some things happening. Harris was more like the old, smart, perfect magician who was always ahead of every possible event. Gambon's dumbledore has 99% of things under control and you can feel his worries regarding that 1%. This kind of feel is completely needed after 4th film. The almost perfect Dumbledore is much closer to the real one than the perfect Dumbledore Harris represented.

One fact from the books you would never know watching films: Dobby actually leaved in Hogwarts from 3rd film. Harry went sometimes to meet him.Dumbledore hired Dobby for a work in school kitchen with some amount of salary. Under Great Hall there is a kitchen with the same 4 tables,and house elfs worked there and prepare food. And by magic they lift it up,for students to eat.

Some facts from the book: Fudge droped his job as minister of magic after the mess of the previous movie now the new minister is Rufus scrimgeour. Tonks is who finds Harry in the train, Aurors are around the castle protecting it. Harry uses Kreacher and Dobby to tail Draco. Ron doesn't break up with Lavender at the nursery. When Harry takes the Felix he comes down from the boys dormitory with the invisibility cloak on, Lavender just sees Ron and Hermione walking down alone. On the same move Harry bumps into Ginny while exiting the common room, Ginny gets furious at Dean because she doesn't need his help to get through, this leads to their break up. When Harry uses sectumsempra Snape, of course recognizes the spell and asks Harry to bring his potion book. He takes Ron's and hides his in the room of requirement, besides a bust that had a certain diadem. In a memory it's shown that Voldemort returns after graduation to Hogwarts looking for the Defense against the dark arts teacher job, of course Dumbledore argued against this. It is said that he jinxed the position then. But he might've gone there for other reasons and not just for the job... Harry finds Trelawny drunk, and she reveals that Dumbledore interviewed her for her job appliance. Harry knew that, that was the moment where Trelawny made his prophecy, but then she revealed that Snape interrupted the interview. Harry knew what this ment it was Snape who revealed the first half of the prophecy to Voldemort. Before leaving to the cave Harry leaves a bit of Felix Felices in case Ron or Hermione need it, he claims that he doesn't need luck because he is with Dumbledore. Later at the cave Dumbledore says to him "I'm not worried Harry, I am with you" In the book Dumbledore petrified Harry while he was under the invisibility cloak so he has no option but to watch his death
