People need to understand, the kill-cam (zoom-in) does NOT show where the receiver's hurtbox was at the moment of impact. Most of these 'how did that hit?' moments would be obvious if it did. Like at 5:07, Richter raised his hand but the zoom doesn't show it. It's most obvious in the Piranha plant kills. 5:50 Notice how the kill screen does not show his stem being extended. Remember: ATTACKS CAN MOVE YOUR HURTBOXES INTO ENEMY HITBOXES

THIS. It’s called hurtbox shifting. If your move extends your character’s body, and thus, their hurtbox, that extended limb is liable to being hit, as you’d expect. When a character is hit though, they go into a “being hit” stunned animation that groups their limbs back towards the center of their hurtbox. So you never end up seeing their limb be damaged directly.

@@RESURGAM. That's... complicated. Previous Smash games had an issue with Multi-hit moves. Mainly: characters falling out of them. They solved this in Ultimate by having multi-hit moves carry you with them (Each hit sends you towards the attacker at a specific speed and angle calculated to keep you in the attack) This works 99% of the time! It's also why drag-down aerials exist. But sometimes... At 0:40 plant was super far from sephiroth, so in order to keep him in the multi-hit, he was sent far and FAST. But then Sephy canceled the multi hit by grabbing the ledge. If he hadn't, we would have seen the world's longest scoop-up.

The reason why the red flare moments look illogical and broken because when they get hit, they go into their hit animation. Which changes their position and does not change in relation to the move. Which is why sometimes it looks like a move shouldn’t hit.

I’m convinced that several of these clips the one player was explicitly trying to take advantage of weird mechanics, that it wasn’t an accident. 2:12, 5:28, 5:48, and 7:21 all were indeed weird but it looked to me that the one player knew exactly that was going to happen and they were trying to land that. Most everything else was jank or just straight up glitches tho lol

None of this was jank or glitches. Sephiroith 's fsmash just extended the hitbox when it clanked with Nikita, the Luigi and banjo just did a move that hit the edge because the other characters ledge invincibility was up. When piranha plant does it's down b it's entire hitbox shifts.. Because of this Sephiroith was able to sweet spot.

First two is because of windboxes, why Mii brawler has a windbox is because one of their special moves Suplex has one that is meant to drag opponents into the grabbox but because of that it can whiff and cause shenanigans like the first one

G&W up smash has a huge hitbox, covering most of his body, so that's why ivysaur got hit. However, the reason G&W didn't get hit by the up air is because his up smash not only has a hitbox that covers almost his entire body, but he's completely invincible during the move.

lemme try to explain some things if I can 0:00 - no clue at all lol 0:24 - I think kirby doesn't actually touch the ground when the sword does and creates the shokwave at the same time. It's just unlucky the the mario was able to get a lil touch with fludd to push kirby off 0:40 - Correct me if I'm wrong please, but sephiroth has a slight windbox on charged up b. If that is correct, I still have no explanation on why it was so much. 0:47 - This is literally just a case of extended hitbox. Nothing wrong is here (also the icies should've charged a nana fsmash when they saw alternating IB's wasn't going to stop cloud) 1:04 - Rob being big enough to get hit by megaman fair that close and megaman being close enough to get hit by Rob's bair 1:22 - Legitimate glitch no clue 1:43 - D3's dash attack has a long lasting hitbox. It can hit people grabbing ledge. Why D3 fell off stage, I don't know (unless continued right input) 1:59 - Another case of standard extended hitbox. 2:21 - no clue on the angle 2:43 - don't ask about this hydrant 2:58 - young link's spin attack is a hitbox that continually tries to take you to the other side of him in order to keep you inside the move till the finishing hitbox. the bayo landed on the right side of young link which ended up pushing her to the left and unfortunately offstage. Damage from bayo caused yl's up b to be canceled, then wrong choices to bayo's death 3:24 - I don't know what happened here. It doesn't look like either a tech or a roll. Just looks like a sliding crouch 3:46 - Ridley hit pacman with its up b while pacman hit ridley with his own. Nothing special 4:08 - before the red screen and zoom in, you can see ivysaur's leaf where gnw's head is. Zoom in just doesn't show it 4:27 - can't give an answer here. Will edit later on

With how often people get confused about the fact that Plant extends its hitbox with D-Special, I've come to the conclusion that Plant should just have a special animation for when it gets hit during D-Special, much like Ridley when you hit him while he's charging N-Special
