Thankyou, I am certainly happy with it :) I've failed at many many things in my lifetime, and still am, lol, and I look at the cabin and wonder "how did I manage to do this without failing?!" I'm just grateful to God for giving me the skill when I needed it, and providing materials at a great price!

Funny you bring that up because I am JUST now realizing I DON'T have any stone, lol! Maybe because we don't have much stone on our property?? LOL! But yes, cozy was a must! I bought 3 different lights for the candle fixtures, and researched the death out of lumens to make sure all my lighting complemented the space. The original lights in the candles were flicker bulbs, which looked pretty cool but gave me a headache with their fiery glow :)

It feels good when a plan comes together. The cabin is very welcoming, has a rustic feel and history in it's art. Grandma was a youthful beauty from her painting and would've felt at home at the cabin from the historical decoration. Nice work and decoration through and through.

Thankyou! I was a bit nervous on the blue sofa, but wanted something to give a bit of color pop. I think it plays perfectly with the yellow/red hues of the wood :) She was my Grandpa's mother, and his father died when he was young, leaving him to raise all the younger kids. My Grandpa worked in wood as well (had a MASSIVE workshop) and he would have been so thrilled to see how this project came out, and to see Great Grandmother having a place in it :)

It looks awesome, great job. The big question is if you had to do it all over again, would you do the same thing? Mainly, would you buy the prefab shell cabin or build yourself? What's the long-term plan for heating and cooling? Electric heat and a window AC unit?
@This1LifeWeLive
@This1LifeWeLive 2 жыл бұрын
I've played this one over in my head a few times. So I had bought the shell because I was on a time crunch, and the guy promised me 4-6 weeks for completion. I knew I could build one myself, but would take longer and I wanted the project DONE by Christmas 2020. lol I didn't even GET the cabin delivered for 12 weeks! And it wasn't to the specs I'd ordered either. So YES, I would definitely have done the cabin myself. Plus I could have insulated the floor first thing ;) I was trying to be smart with my time, but you can't be mad at someone else's failures, only your own ;) heating I bought the electric unit until I could find something better. I finally came across a small woodstove for a 200sqft cabin that has a burntime of 6-8hrs. It's small enough to fit nicely under my bookcase with the proper heat shields in place. I DO have an air-conditioner that came from Erik's dad's house (it's on wheels), so if I get desperate, I could go that route. not sure what to expect yet with heat, but the spray foam does NOT retain temperature as well as everyone suggested, so I am assuming this will turn into an oven. years ago, the dog shed was half my office (yup, it was ROUGH), and I remember plenty of mornings waking up and walking outside to muggy 78 degrees at 5am. Not only was it hot, but it was dusty and wreaked of mold (which I'm very allergic to). So I guess, even if it gets hot, it will STILL be a big upgrade from the dog shed ;)
@cancelbubble6535
@cancelbubble6535 2 жыл бұрын
@@This1LifeWeLive well, you've certainly turned the cabin shell lemon into lemonade. The thing I love most about your channel is your can do attitude, what an asset to have. I'd go with a woodstove myself as well and yeah, I bet it turns into an oven in the summer. I remember your dog shed office in some videos, too, lol.

Not with the radiator heater. I'm swapping that for a small wood stove for next year. Numbers wise, I can run the cabin off the Bluetti Power unit, which charges through the solar panels. I need to get a few more cords to make a throw switch to toggel between solar and shore power, so that if things are running low I can switch it over. So we will see!

So, does the little radiator heater put out enough heat to keep the temp up in the cabin when it's in the 30's outside?
@This1LifeWeLive
@This1LifeWeLive 2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. This one claimed to have a temperature controlled thermostat, but pretty much it's just heat levels 1-6, which means you are constantly adjusting it based on the outside temperature (like a woodstove I guess). Our temps got down to the -teens a few times, and pretty much I'd walk out to 47 degrees and have to supplement with a second small heater. It did keep things from freezing, but they suck a lot of electric and don't keep temp in those frigid months. It gave me some time to do more research though, and I found a brand of tiny stove that's suited for small spaces of 200sqft and won't take up the whole cabin. It has a 6-8hr burn time too. So I will try to get that installed this summer when it's nicer out :)

Hey, cool cabin office, I would definitely love to do something like this in my backyard although we have an older shed, which needs to be redone in the inside, but a newer building for myself would definitely be awesome thanks 😊
@This1LifeWeLive
@This1LifeWeLive 2 жыл бұрын
Old buildings can be done, but always good to look at overall life expectancy of the main shell. And then consider how much it will cost to finish the inside the way you want. It wasn't until after I received my cabin that I read pine has a life of 5-7 years (unstained). My floor was supposed to be hardwood, but it came as pine like everything else. I'm hoping it will last . . . Maybe for right now with prices being so high you can get creative and recycle old materials, so if the building leaks you won't be out too much $$. Then when prices come down you can build a new one in your leisure :)

Looks great! What was your final solution for the off grid power? I noticed you had a YETI power pack in one of the scenes... Just curious how it tied into the panel you installed. :)
@This1LifeWeLive
@This1LifeWeLive 2 жыл бұрын
So right now I can charge it through the panels with the cords it comes with (also how I figured out my solar panel's connectors were bad and needed replacing). I need to buy a longer solar cable to wrap around (or maybe under) my cabin to connect to the rear power supply access point. I'm installing a switch to toggle between house and solar power (with fuses on each). The solar panel will connect to my Bluettie, and the bluettie to my toggle switch which allows me to toggle between the bluetti solar power and the house power. The cabin fusebox will connect in to the switch. It's an easy install, but I just gotta have a nice chunk of free time to order the cords and get it done.

Right now it's hooked to the outside breaker box on the house. I have the solar panels repaired and working now, and they can charge my Bluetti. I need to get a splitter switch to toggle power between the house and the solar panel. I know a LOT of KZbinrs are quick to jump right into solar and struggle through it, but I like dipping my toes in the water and going from there ;) Our solar set-up worked great for maple syrup, so now I'll test it on running my offce :) It WON'T run my heater though . . . that sucks 1800watts every 7 minutes!
