13:31 I should probably note that if you're crazy enough to have 10 gig (or really anything faster than gigabit) internet, you will not get 10 gig speeds on your PS5 Pro if you plug it in to that, as it only has a Gigabit Ethernet port. If you have faster than gigabit internet and want to take advantage of those speeds, you're pretty much limited to Wi-Fi in order to do so.

The PS5 Pro’s Ethernet port is only the regular 1 GB so that 10 GB port on the router is practically useless to connect on the PS5 Pro. You can, however, use that router 10 GB port if the modem supports 2.5 GB or more Ethernet so the router would extract a better connection for the network from the modem, resulting in better speeds overall. And if you want a hardwired mesh network, then the 2.5 GB-10 GB Ethernet will definitely help. Although I rarely see devices supporting 10 GB currently. 2.5 GB is starting to trend, however. Another thing to keep in mind that you should’ve covered here is that you must set the Wifi on the PS5 Pro to 6 GHz so that it takes advantage of the full speeds. Also from the router’s end, programming the device to receiving 6 GHz is recommended. As mentioned, however, the ping might be worse on 6 GHz if the PS5 Pro is not literally next to the router due to poor penetration. And ping in online gaming is a bit more important than bandwidth and speed so 5 GHz might be more optimal.

Powerline adapters work really well, at least they do in the UK. You get ethernet reliability and wifi convenience.
@just69796 күн бұрын
Super dependent on the home's wiring. I've had good results, shit results, and super inconsistent results, with powerline adapters. Even with the shit results, it was at least nice to not worry about interference from other wifi routers in nearby houses, despite the very slow speeds. but the inconsistent one was the worst: it was sometimes fast, but other times crazy high latency. That latency kept breaking the wired-backhaul setup for my mesh, and I couldn't figure out which appliance was causing the interference. Ended up getting a pair of tri-band routers and doing a dedicated-channel 5Ghz wireless backhaul for the secondary router in bridge mode to get wired ports where I needed them.
@Punisher94196 күн бұрын
@@just6979 It's nice if you don't want to install a really long ethernet cable outside and the wifi will not reach like in a garage or upstairs behidn thick walls or something. I live in the Uk in a really really old house (400 years old) with 1 meter thick walls. One of them is actually 1.2 meters thick. The electrical wiring is probably some 50 years old and works fine with a powerline adapter but yea I can see and know it can be a problem if you use an extension cord with multiple sockets if even older wiring or something. But I should think if you have any half modern wiring and the fuse box is ont he same system it should be OK. I'm not actually sure my fuse box is on the same as the router because there is a modern ish one in the garage with a solar panel setup but who knows. I would ask an electrician to come out and check it all or re-do all the wiring but he would probably tell me to get lost because of how weird the wiring is here. The good thing is, powerline adapters are cheap and easy to install and try out so I think it's worth the try at least to see if it works well enough. I get like 50 mbps over a powerline adapter which is exactly what I would have if it was direct to the router via ethernet.

13:23 You forgot to mention the main feature of Wifi 7, Multi Link Operation (MLO) completely, which is the thing used for higher speeds and more stable connection with distance with your device. Also the gaming port segment for 10 gigabit connection to your ps5 was a lie in this case because ps5 and ps5 pro only support 1 gigabit connectivity on a hardware level. In this case it was only 1 gigabit link with a higher QoS value than other devices. So it was misleading a little. Otherwise interesting review and great production quality as always.

Instead there's ethernet between the router and a powerline ethernet adapter, and there are also adapters around my house to receive it. Gets around the wall limitation of Wifi without needing cables lying all over.

He wasn't trying to lie or flex It was just a visual to show how large of an improvement Wi-Fi 7 is on the hardware side. That it could support five PlayStations on Wi-Fi 6 You wouldn't even see a hit. If you ran five PlayStation 5s on your network and start to transferring games over Wi-Fi could your router support all of that? Obviously you wouldn't do that, It was just an aide to help people understand.

I will point out usually what's the problem with Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi oftentimes could be faster than ethernet. Problem being is there is always a high ping that hits every once in awhile randomly, rather it be from a radio tower, cell phone signal or whatever. That's why sometimes Wi-Fi is not ideal, crosstalk between radio waves. Including Wi-Fi itself interfering

Most of those big bandwidth numbers don't matter for something like PS5 to PS Portal. They both need to share same channel, it doesn't matter how big the channel is because they both need to take turns. The turns will be over faster since they can transfer more data in a shorter time thanks to the bandwidth, but each device still has to wait for the other device to finish, and this sequential operation adds latency: -PS5 sends frame A to router -router sends frame A to Portal -PS5 sends frame B to router -router sends frame B to Portal Using that separate 6Ghz network, or a separate 5Ghz network on Wifi6 routers with dual 5Ghz radios, to put the PS5 and the Portal on separate channels would be better: -PS5 sends frame A to router -PS5 sends frame B to router, while router sends frame A to Portal -router sends frame B to Portal, while PS5 sends frame C to router It's not really frame by frame, obvi, but you can see how the independent channels allow for parallelization thus decreasing latency: sharing the same channel takes 4 transmissions for 2 "frames", using different channels takes 3 transmissions for 2.5 frames (the extra half is because frame C is already halfway to the Portal after just 3 tranmissions from the PS5) Seperate channels/networks _should_ be effectively close to wired speeds and latency even with WiFi6, but having one side wired is always going to be best because there is always some latency in Wifi, even if only one device is currently on a channel, because the router always needs to be ready for other devices, and that checking takes time. I did the split network thing myself: one 5Ghz radio on my main tri-radio Wifi6 router is basically dedicated to my Steam Deck or my dinky laptop, on a different 5Ghz channel than the 40 other devices in the house. With my PC hardwired into the main router, Steam Remote Play is practically flawless: device to device latency is 1ms! So that's 1ms for inputs to the big rig plus 1ms for frames back to the Deck or laptop, effectively 1/8th of a 60Hz frame of input lag. That's probably a better response than the screen on the laptop! Hmm, now I'm wondering what the hardware input latency is on a Steam Deck...
@Tarets5 күн бұрын
You have no idea what you're talking about. Neither your console has to use wifi, nor does it need to share a channel or even a wifi network with PS Portal. You also don't need multi-band access points to run multiple networks simultaneously on different channels.
