I picked up the SN30 pro+ about a year ago and it's treated me extremely well so far. It feels great and the ability to remap is really comprehensive, a feature I haven't been able to find implemented this well anywhere else. By far the craziest and least expected part of owning it though is how good the company is at customer support. A few months ago I emailed them and told them that one of the buttons on my controller had started sticking occasionally after intense use, and they sent me a new rubber panel which I swapped in and which made the controller feel good-as-new. It's really unheard of for a company to send a consumer a new part for free like this just because they asked for it, but they did. It totally blows my mind to have been treated this way and 8Bitdo earned themselves a customer for life.

The 8bitdo pro is the best controller I've ever owned, it's so flexible with how many platforms it's compatible with, as well as having wired/wireless and AA battery options. One of the most appealing factors for me is that it is ergonomically similar to a Dual Shock. This is a pure QUALITY product, especially when the price is roughly half of first-party controllers.

Honestly the back paddles and being able to switch profiles on the fly make an upgrade worth it to me. I also wish that back paddles were a thing on more controllers, and whenever a controller has customizability and back paddles I get excited. Great video, Bob!
@workinprogress8978 Жыл бұрын
They should always be an option for sure, since more options is always superior. I don't personally care for back paddles, since when playing intense platformers or fighters I always end up tensing up and pressing them accidentally, thus making them more of a hindrance if I decided to program them to a function.

Swapping the right stick with the triggers is great for games that don't support analog triggers. For example in racing games on the switch you can set the right stick to accelerate and brake and then use the triggers for it.

Absolutely need this controller. The right stick for triggers would be for older racing games that did not have analog control for acceleration and braking. The dead zone of the analog stick also helps with Gamecube titles that were programmed with the small deadzone of the gamecube controller in mind: this meant that if you would press the analog stick up all the way, in some games it would cause 'up' to bleed into 'down', forcing you to gently move the analog stick up.

The lack of trigger sensitivity on the Switch makes sense because no Nintendo controllers use that. The Nintendo Pro controller doesn't have pressure sensitive triggers, nor do the Joy-cons, nor do any other controllers Nintendo makes that are compatible with the Switch. Despite claims made in the video, I don't think that any Nintendo Switch games can take advantage of pressure sensitive triggers because I don't think it's a function the Switch itself supports. Other than that little nitpick, great and helpful review!

Honestly, I wish they’d release an M30 Pro, basically the same thing but with two sticks, and triggers (I’d be fine with the Z and C buttons being mapped to L and R triggers at 100%,). It’d make a perfect all-rounder controller. I might be able to do away with my pile of controllers if I had that. Currently, in reach, I have a Dual Shock 3, SF30 Pro, Pro+, M30, a GameCube style switch controller (probably can’t do away with that one), my Shield controller, and a now-neglected Xbox 360 controller.

The old snes one you’re talking about is actually meant as a tribute towards the game boy actually hahaha I know it looks like a snes one. But yeah, it was meant as a old GB tribute just as This specific controller that he is reviewing is meant as a dedication and as a tribute to the PlayStation’s original DualShock controller

I’ve been rocking the 8BitDo Pro 2 for over 2 years now and I recently just picked up the Game Boy color way of it for multiplayer. Long story short, the controller is so nice I just bought it twice.

Just bought the Power A Enhanced Switch controller, and it doesn't even have basic rumble for $50. Feels like I got ripped off after watching this...

I picked up a 20 dollar wired one using my Kohls cash. I bought it to color coordinate with an old pad then I found out that it was an "enhanced" I got to say, I don't see the point of owning the wireless version. They are exactly the same thing. I feel for you man, I wouldn't want to have dropped 50 bucks on that piece of plastic either

You can swap the right stick with the triggers? That's going to be so useful for Grid Autosport because there's a setting where you can use the right stick for accelerating because the Switch lacks analogue triggers.

I’ve been contemplating these over official Switch pro controllers, but when I hear about drift in those $70+ ones, it kind of scares me. But seeing these being endorsed by you, Wood, and MDB, I think it’ll be a safe bet. Plus, I’m coming to MHR from MHW, and I prefer a more PS4 feeling controller.

8bitdo has best controllers. Hori is good too. Has a solid left joycon with a dpad. And split pad pro good for big hands. Ans while 8bitdo my fav, I actually thinK horis RAP hyabusa V arcade stick is better than 8bitdos

But id get pro2 or pro+ I got both. I actually like pro+for snes or nes or genesis Era games tho. The concave X n Y just feels right. Otherwise yea pro2 the best call.
@davidtownsend60923 жыл бұрын
You got big hands get the split pad pro. Only downside is no motion. The hori left dpad joycon is cool too I got zelda one. I love the dpad on it idk why. Also no motion control but since right joycon is a normal one you can actually still do motion with one and the hori left joycon. Like doom.eternal works perfectly fine

I actually like the pro+better -.- I got pro 2 cpl days ago and it's great better in all ways. except. Idk it feels off. 1. Buttons in back kinda get in the way. Tho app is super cool. And 2. I got pro+ that's snes themed. Light purp buttons whatever but the part that I love is the top 2 buttons being concave and the bottom 2 convex . That subtle thing is a bigger impact than one might realize in ways like a physical queues helping mental map out your own hands. Where they are and what they are doing and will do. Without looking

I didn't get the chance to try out the official switch pro controller, because I chose the SN30 + controller. It's just as good as Bob said, I thought I've finally gotten myself a perfect controller, it works for 3D games, and it works flawlessly in 2D game. But this one last for about a year, everything just starting to go downhill after one year of using it. It starts drifting, the bottons are falling off, sometimes the buttons would even get stuck that you can even press it, and occasionally connecting problems. I'm not sure about the official pro con, imo it's a really good controller, but I think SN30 pro+ might not be durable than the official controll, and it's not drift-free. That being said if you're on budget, I'd still recommend try out SN30 pro+, or even SN 30 pro 2+(hopefully they fixed those problems in this ver). If have extra to spend I would said get both, one for 3D one for 2D games.

THANK YOU! I was watching your older video "Your controller could make Animal Crossing WAY Easier", and as I've just started playing Animal Crossing recently I was pretty sold on the idea of not wearing out my Joycon A button anymore (Also sick of plugging the joycons back in to charge, yeah I don't have a charging grip or a better wireless controller). But the SN30pro+ seemed to be discontinued, and they had a Pro 2 controller? So thank you for reviewing it, happy to see it's basically an sn30pro+ with macros(!!!) and 2 more buttons that may or may not be usefull (but hey "free" buttons can't be bad). The app sync while also synced to the switch sounds cool too. I was looking at a long drive to find a official pro controller, and stopped to watch these videos. So glad I did as the place down the road from me has the 8bit Pro 2 in stock, so you saved me petrol and time as well! Thanks man!

Grid on Switch let's you use the right stick for breaking and accelerating to allow for analogue so swapping the right stick with the triggers would help there

The replaceable battery pack idea **is** from Microsoft. I have rechargable battery packs in my xbox controllers, the only difference is that they are sold separatelly. The one who should learn is Sony, the battery in the PS controllers is not easily replaceable and it's one reason why after a lot of use and wear they end up not holding their charge for long. Imho, the rechargable battery pack sized as 2 AA should be a standard. I wonder if 8bitdo uses the same connectors as the xbox for the recharging, it would be interesting if an xbox battery pack could be used as replacement.
@Clara_Page3 жыл бұрын
TBH I think he was referring to the fact that you have to buy the battery separately on xbox, I can see why they do that but I do wish you got one rechargeable battery with the console to get you started.
@Ferkiwi2 жыл бұрын
@@Clara_Page Maybe that's what he meant. But you can just order them together. Also 8bitdo does not sell battery packs separatelly at all, currently. So that's a problem if you ever need a spare one (I've already seen reddit threads of people complaining). I'd rather they did like xbox rather than forcing you to buy a new controller just to get an extra pack. Honestly, I don't see how it's a problem to buy them separatelly (which you can do simultaneously). I'd expect that if they came together the controller would be more expensive to begin with. If the problem is the price of controller+battery then the complaint should be about the price not the modular design, imho. Plus if you already own a battery pack you don't have to get a new one when you buy the new iteration of the controller as long as it's compatible (like how xbox one battery packs work on the xbox series controllers), which would be better both for your wallet and for the environment. The one thing I don't like about xbox battery packs is how the design is proprietary. Ideally they would have partnered with battery manufacturers to create a standard that could be used freely for other devices (it'd be great if Sony, Logitech & others joined the trend). But even as it is, the way xbox does it is much more consumer-friendly.

OK, so I paused the video, pre-ordered the Pro 2 and a carry case immediately as my Pro + is on its last legs after me thrashing the hell out of it since I received it. Bloody terrific controllers. Bloody terrific hardware in general. My SN30Pro is my dedicated "Travel Controller" and I use their NES inspired Mouse every day at work.

I've owned 2 of the previous pro+ controllers. They feel great, but the biggest problem I've had with them is that the rubber contact pads in them tend to break down fairly quickly. And since 8bitdo is located in China, it can take a month or longer for replacement parts to be shipped to you. I've had to go through this process 3 times and I gave up on it and just went back to using other controllers.
