Top 3 Favorite Gaming Devices Ever 1. PS Vita 2000 (black) Bought it used for $100 in May 2017 on Craigslist. Maybe only an 8.5/10 condition. Wasn’t aware of LetGo/OfferUp until 2020. I’m a Sony guy and PS1 is my all-time favorite console and PSP was my favorite handheld. Vita is backwards compatible to them both. Any PSP or PS1 game, I can play it on a modded Vita. I don’t think Switch and Deck will ever surpass Vita as my favorite. Perfect size and great and comfortable design. And if it’s modded, it takes things to another level. True, Deck is way more capable with emulation. But my Vita doesn’t feel that dated after a dozen years. And it easily has one of the best d-pads on a handheld. I’ve had some issues with my Vita since getting it modded over a year ago. Adrenaline used to freeze it a ton if I didn’t close the PS1 or PSP game properly. But the minor issues have gone away with the help of useful plugins. And using DualShock 4 for it can still be a slight hit or miss as it won’t always connect each time. Ironically, I do use my Vita the least among my top 3. It’s mostly used these days for watching Family Guy and Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head. Battery health is still surprisingly excellent after nearly 7 years and it could be older than that as I’m just the second owner. Battery health tells me over 90-92% which is insane. I don’t feel the degradation to it either. If my Vita battery ever does wear out, I’ll buy another battery to replace it. If ever does break, I’ll buy another Vita. Same 2K model because I’m not a fan of the 1K model. I find OLED overrated. Didn’t like the 1K’s proprietary port, rear panel where the pads are too narrow and makes it easy to touch the touch panel, the black blotches, and the weaker battery life. I always found the Vita phat to feel bulky and heavy. Was never comfortable to me when I borrowed it from my cousin for a month and then owned briefly for 2 days. I want to try own a Vita 2K model for the rest of my life even if Sony releases another handheld and it can play Vita games perfectly without the need of an emulation app like Vita3K. That Vita 2K form factor is perfect for my needs. Still have never owned a Switch. The reason? The price of software consistently drives me away. Every time I think about picking one up, I look at a few games I might want to buy and everything is still pretty much full price. The games that I was interested in that aren't first party, I already own on Steam (given my Steam account is now 20-years old. Yes, I'm ancient) and I have no interest in buying them for Switch at an inflated price. Then, I was already burned by the Wii and 3DS, where I bought the same old NES games more than once; I am also not interested in paying extra for basic online services such as Cloud saves. Sure, I'm a PC gamer first and foremost and have been since the early-90's, but I dabble in consoles and have more than one portable first party console right next to me as I type this. I'd love to have a Switch, but with the issues of cost, not making my purchases portable, expensive, necessary repairs (stick drift), I just don't see myself buying one or even a Switch 2. Nintendo games are fun, sure, but not worth the price of entry when I already have thousands of games available to me on Steam and other platforms; am I really going to enjoy Breath of the Wild that much more than Elden Ring that it's worth all the additional cost?

The Steam Deck is dockable, yes. But it is not nearly as consistent of an experience as the Switch is. The Switch just works. Docking and undocking is virtually instant with no glitches whatsoever, every single time. Going from attached joycons in handheld to docked with a Pro controller? No problem. This is not the experience you get with the Steam Deck. I love my Deck to death, but going back and forth is quite a pain in the ass a lot of the time. Sometimes the game will crash when docking/undocking. Some games don't properly switch from the Deck's controls to another controller on the fly. Sometimes the dock just freaks out and the video cuts in and out repeatedly for a few seconds. Sometimes it doesn't properly output video at all. A few times it has caused our Decks to fully hardlock, just docking it. I also discovered this really weird behavior that if I was playing my Deck docked, but my wife's controller was plugged into the dock charging, it would cause my Deck to stop reading inputs from my connected controller every few seconds, and it would just act like I was holding whatever input it was registering at the time of the stutter. Took me awhile to figure that one out but it's definitely when her controller is connected via USB. We have two Steam Decks and these issues happen with both of them, and the common factor is always something to do with the dock. We love them to death, but they don't hold a candle to the Switch when it comes to a docked experience and seamlessly switching back and forth.

It's also annoying having to tweak graphics to match the display on Steam Deck docked that's for sure. But the real Switching magic of the Steam Deck isn't in the dock itself in my experience. It's that cloud save syncs up straight away and I pick up on my desktop pc.
@CaptainEffort9 ай бұрын
True enough, the Deck is a damned impressive device but seamless docking/undocking isn’t seamless, and shouldn’t be a draw. The draws should be the insane library, flexibility, and PC bonuses (like free multiplayer, Steam sales, etc)

i agree with what you said, the convenience to have an all around device like the steam deck, but not all people want a complex 360 system, and that's ok. Some people want something simple to play sometime or to gift to their children etc. Nintendo owns that field from years and nobody can change that. Would be cool if nintendo did and wiil do all cool stuff but, not considering marketing plans, that would transform a tablet for childs in something that maybe only adults could manage.

I have 2 kids at the age they can play the Switch, so I'm pretty locked into Nintendo's games for the next few years. With that said, I'm glad I didn't buy the SteamDeck when it launched as I do not believe it would have served a purpose for me until recently. I'm considering it, or something similar, over the next couple years, but if I can get the Switch 2 it makes more sense to stay with Nintendo due to the first party games. I'd love to have both, but my kids are about to get Mario 3D World in a couple of weeks and I'm sure we are all going to be doing multiplayer runs of that over the next little while. Only way Nintendo loses me on their next console at this point is not allowing the digital games and store front, as well as NSO, to carry over. I can live with physical carts being not compatible, but even then I think its likely to be included, at least in the first gen consoles. I could see whatever lite version they release to not support them.

With that note, I'm excited for the next Nintendo console and I hope it's less Cloud versions because RE2 remake is locked at cloud version because they can't handle the game's graphics. I'm excited to play that game again but in the next gen and I hope CAPCOM release an offline game of it with full content as well.

I’ve owned my switch since 2018 and I’m only really starting to appreciate it now. I almost exclusively played Pokemon and Smash (with friends), but I picked up Kirby and the Forgotten Land and it’s opened my eyes to the actual quality and fun of Nintendo games. I’ve missed out on so many switch games that I’ll be looking to pick up this year. After the entire video game industry has moved to live service cash grabs, it’s been fun to play a newer game that gives you the entire package upfront, and prioritizes being genuinely fun.

If Nintendo's next console isn't backwards compatible, they're completely done. The Switch has been so damn popular, and they're more than well aware that it needs an upgrade. There's only two games published by Nintendo that are soon to come out anyway. It'll happen soon.

The last time I sat down and played my switch for a good amount of time was when I got SMRPG, in mid December.

Nintendo doesnt sell their hardware at a loss, the ONLY exception to that was the 3DS after the price drop. They sell them at a pretty good profit and all the leaks for the switch 2 also point to that being solid at a profit as well. With current pricing and the hardware we know it'll have, they can sell it for as low as 349$ and still have a decent profit

I think the PC gaming market is really hard to compete with it has mods support can run games at 60 frames per second with extremely high resolutions have a library of multiple console generations not even counting emulation but if you decide to count it in there is no competition here, I mean the fact that the steam deck can run the switch games. Almost better than the switch itself is crazy!

I know this video is about the Switch but I’m happy Bob is also talking about the Steam Deck. I think the Steam Deck is the greatest gaming device 🐐 I’ve ever purchased in my entire life and I’ve owned like 20+ different home consoles mixed with handhelds before. Steam Deck is not my personal favorite, but it’s the greatest gaming device I’ve ever bought. I believe in time, it can be my favorite. I’ve owned the Vita for nearly 7 years and I don’t ever recall gaming on it much as my Steam Deck during the last 12 days I’ve owned it. Same applies to my Switch Lite. I bring my Steam Deck with me all the time. It’s usually placed in the back of my car and when I have downtime since I’m a delivery driver, I’ll play it. And I don’t just play like 10-15 minutes spurts. I’m talking about using the entire battery life. That’s usually about 3 hours if all my games are set to 30 fps. Understand that I haven’t really gamed much since the mid 00s. I became more of a casual gamer. I missed out on the PS3 and Xbox 360 during their heyday. During Gen 6, I was working and dated someone. Didn’t have much time to game from 2003-2006. Then when I got a PS4 slim in May 2017, I had games for it but I mostly used it for Netflix and watching videos from an external hard drive. It wasn’t until I bought a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 did I get back into emulation after my modded first gen iPod touch and PSP phat ran ROMs from 2008-2010. I discovered by Sept 2021 that PSP and Dreamcast emulation became excellent and GameCube and PS2 improved immensely as long as I had a powerful chip like the maligned Snapdragon 888. Steam Deck is basically taking my PS4 everywhere with me. I know it’s probably closer to an Xbox One but you can still play God of War (2018), Uncharted 4, Spider-Man, and The Last of Us on it. You can play Metal Gear Solid 5 and the FF7 Remake. Each time I turn it off after a gaming session, I tell myself how awesome it is. Remember when you were a kid and you couldn’t wait to open your presents on Christmas? That’s the same feeling I get when playing my Steam Deck. It’s a godsend to middle aged guys like me (Xennial) and new daddies who want to play a quick game of GTA5 while trying to put the baby to sleep. I don’t plan to own a lot of games for my Steam Deck. I notice when I bombard any handheld with so many games, I tend to play less of it. It’s because there are so many options. My ADHD will prevent me from finishing a game because I’ll keep changing the game I want to play. That’s why I uninstalled EmuDeck. If I’m going to do that, I’d rather do that on my Flip3 or get an Odin 2. I’ll use my iPhone SE 2022 and Vita for mostly indies. I’ll use my Switch for Nintendo exclusives. Only AAA titles released during the last 15 years will be on my Steam Deck and it’s usually an IP I’m familiar with like Final Fantasy, Uncharted, God of War, and Metal Gear Solid. I’m not familiar with Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Starfield. I’m not even into the GTA but I’m hearing GTA6 will save this gen. I know the Steam Deck isn’t perfect. Compared to a ROG Ally and Legion Go with the Z1 Extreme, it’s not as powerful as those two. Then sometimes the games won’t launch because those games were originally developed to work on Windows. But I love mines! It’s so nice to game on it and without weaker graphics that the Switch will have. I don’t believe the Switch 2 will be that much more powerful than it when it arrives in 2025. Steam Deck is surprisingly comfortable to game on. Inexpensive. Easy to repair. Great software and community support. I think Steam Deck will reign supreme until the Deck 2 comes out. It’s become my PlayStation for PC games since Sony isn’t part of the handheld wars anymore and the PS Portal doesn’t count as a handheld. I do think the Deck is expendable. Once another new form factor or the successor arrives, there is no point keeping your old Deck. No worries of backwards compatibility. Same applies to the Switch if the successor is backwards compatible. It’s not like the Vita which never had a successor. So you never really get sentimentally attached because a newer one will completely replace the older one. Let’s say a Steam Deck Lite comes out, I’d sell my current one without hesitation. I can praise my current one now as I’m still in my honeymoon phase with it, but I know I can never get emotionally attached because it’s easily replaceable. I may sell my LCD one once the used OLEDs go down to $350. Sell my LCD for $250 and add another $100 to get the OLED. But it most likely happens when Deck 2 is out. Rather have beefier newer hardware than a more comfortable footprint but still has the same old chip. Steam Deck is already pretty comfortable as is. Ranking My Gaming Devices Favorites - 1. PS Vita 2. Switch Lite 3. Steam Deck 4. PSP 5. PS1 6. Dreamcast 7. PS2 8. Super NES 9. GameCube 10. Genesis 11. NES 12. PS4 13. PS3 14. Xbox 15. N64 16. Wii 17. Game Boy 18. Game Gear 19. DS Lite 20. Saturn 21. GBA SP 22. Jaguar Steam Deck could already be the GOAT by next week. It’s a complete godsend to gamers everywhere and who want that portability. I’m going to be on Team Gabe/Valve for a while unless Sony finally returns to the handheld race.

I don't know if I could rank consoles, but the ones I spent the most time with, by date of release, are... - Atari 2600 - DOS - NES - SNES - PSX - DS Lite + R4/DSTT card - Wii (Smash only) - Wii U (bought for Smash, got only a few other games) - Switch (docked only, bought for Smash, later modded it, became a great console after modding) - Raspberry Pi I'm really enjoying the Switch now, since it has such a huge library with a ton of great games. I expect I'll keep using it for a long time. Also really enjoying the rpi, since it plays an even bigger library, basically all of gaming history up to the 2000s, but with modern conveniences like save states and wifi and linux. I finally get to try all the games I missed on virtually every old platform, including arcade, and the experience now is arguably better than the original. Would love to get a retro handheld too... but I find mobile gaming makes my hands and neck hurt, like, a lot.

I gotta disagree with you on owning multiple Switches. It’s actually fairly easy to move save data around now! Yeah you gotta do a little bit of configuring, literally just pressing a back-end button here and there. But once it works, I can play the same game on my OLED at home + and my Lite out and about with no problem picking up where I left off. And another thing. Your opinions on handheld PC’s are appreciated. That’s why we watch this channel, of course. But you alluded to it yourself: “in case Valve decides to shut its doors one day.” I stick with the Switch because I own the majority of my games (the ones that really matter to me) physically. PC handhelds are all streaming, all internet. I prefer owning the software outright, forever, - no servers or companies needed. But that’s not to say the Steam Deck isn’t fuckin dope and that I wouldn’t purchase one immediately if I had the money!

As much as I'm looking forward to the next system from Nintendo I'm perfectly happy with the current Switch and all the games I have for it, which is more than any other system, even more than my Steam library. I have been using the Switch since 2019 and I still love it for the Nintendo first party stuff and a bit of the third party stuff. I was never the one who was fascinated by the Witcher 3 or Doom on there because it didn’t feel right. I mostly played JRPGs or Hollow Knight. Now, like you said, it feels pointless to want to try third party stuff on the Switch. I feel more space is opened up to just dedicate it to first party only. I currently want a Steam Deck simply to play Indies and JRPGs on. I fully understand that I could play AAA games on there, but I don’t find interest in it if a PC is more suitable without draining the battery or damaging something. The Steam Deck feels like the new Indie machine and I am very excited for that because I do enjoy handheld play. This is another great video. I love your current Steam Deck based content. I can’t wait to see how you expand your content more.

The thing that would make this device go from great to amazing is if it were capable of doing 1080p@60FPS, because for me, that's the only thing holding me back from using it every single day. I'm used to my PC and PS5, so having to leave those to switch (hehe, no pun intended) back to 720p@30FPS is difficult. Though I've still thoroughly enjoyed my Switch, I started with a Switch Lite Pokémon Sword and Shield limited edition but upgraded to an actual Switch when they went on sale (also to keep the limited edition one in pristine shape because I love how it looks). The Switch has brought me two of my all-time favorite games, being Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I most certainly hope that their next console will be more powerful and have backwards compatibility with Switch games, because I would love to play both of these games at higher framerates and resolutions.
