To solve this problem and educational purpose we're going to do a teardown of wvc 1200 Inverter , all of the parts numbers are given below so you can repair this inverter by yourself .

I did repair mine I had a similar problem as you describe and discovered that all panels are in parallel including the MOSFET controls. If one MOSFET fails on the panel input side you measure that failure on four of the eight input MOSFET's. I removed two of them and found the faulty one. The HF SPWM mosfets at the bottom side of the inverter are also grouped I believe it is grouped in two H-briges each bridge having 8 Mosfet's. So every H-bridge switch is 2 parallel MOSFET's . One showed a failure and i removed that one to and again one MOSFET failed. At full power I don't feel any head from the H brige. The transformers however do get hot, I changed the four aluminum heat blocks on the frond plate inside of the inverter for a litle bit thicker aluminum strip for better contact between case and transformers. I'm planning to add extra external aluminum fins. it would be nice if WVC DK would change the input MOSFET's for better ones like the IRFB4110 that has only 3.7 mOhm@25°C and cost around 0.4USD instead of the IRF3710 23mOhm@25°C That would save around 30Watt of loss at full power and a lower operational temperature. What I dont know is if the gate drivers can handle the IRFB4110 double gate charge 160nC instead of the 80nC gate charge of the IRF3710. Overall with three panels each 300Watt the temperature of the case is hand warm at around 550Watt of power like a cup of tea and a quite low wind condition, at 4x300Watt with low wind the temperature at 800Watt power is too high in my opinion, you can touch it, but it will feel hot. I estimate the case is around 60°C, to hot in my opinion. I did measurements with NTC thermistors inside on the Transformers with a closed casing. With no airflow I measured 62°C between the transformers on two panels with around 400Watt of power. As soon as I added a mild airflow from a small fan the transformer temperature dropped to 52°C. I estimate for each panel connected makes the temperature inside the casing increasing with 8..10°C starting from 40°C with zero power. What I find strange is the way the STD13NM60ND are mounted on the PCB. This is a D2PAK and the cooling of the aluminum case connect on the topside of these MOSFETS. The Typical RDSon@25C is 110mOhm. So at 900Watts@125AC with a Junction of 120°C the RMS current is 7.2 going through 2 Mosfets 3.6A each. The power dispassion in each MOSFET is 3.6*3.6*110 *2/1000=2.8Watt Part of that heat goes away through the PCB but a large part needs to go through the topside of the package to the aluminum casing? I wonder if that is a problem. Fact is that the Hbrige of 16 MOSFET's lose 16x2.8=44 Watts of power. A better MOSFET with a lower RDSon would reduce that loss. The Quality in the inside looks quite good to me, I do believe that the transformers are to small for what they need to deliver and are not well-connected to the case to lose their heat. It does work however. So did you change the shorted mosfet to another one? I found another alternative mosfet in the internet. But at this moment I am happy with a working wvc. Let's wait for the summer.

@@FunnyFantasticFail yes I did change it one in the 4x DC stepup brigde and on the SPWM high voltage side and its working now. There were no diodes damaged.

I can connect a single panel to an inverter with 2 inputs or 4 inputs, for example if it has two inputs and is 600w, I can put a single 500w panel connected with a y connector to pull the inverter on both inputs from the same panel but without exceeding the total power?

I have had the same issue (all 4 DC input shortcut) with the inverter and fixed it by replacing one of the 8 IRF3710 MOSFET, now the inverter is working again. Just measure with a multimeter the passthrough and you will find it.

Thanks for the look inside. Always looking for another GTI which I can buy broken and fix. At least it doesn't have nasty potting like enphase. When you have multiple FET on the same DC buss which is shorted, I just connect to nice constant current power supply set to about 4A. Measuring voltage drop on each transformer winding, even though it is just a few mv, points me to the right FET. Very useful when it is not a bad FET but an over voltage protection diode which is shorted.

do you have the value for the varistor on the lower left corner? marked as GND, on the left of the capacitors? my inverter has it missing!

The mosfet pins you measured are not drain and source. They are gate and drain.

Same thing happened to my GT inverter. DC terminals shorted for no reason. Now it won't display any LED. Were you able to repair this?

Great video , Kedar ... I have one of these inverters , but my panels don't match , they're 100W 21V open circuit , I have to put 2 in series for the inverter to work ... so do I put 200W on each input , or would 400W be OK?

Hi Kendar, I have installed a WVC1200 and mine also died after 70KW/hr of work and a daily yield of around 5KW with 4x300Watt panels. The out side body temperature was around 45 degrees. With AC power and Panels connected the LED on the front is off. I'm planning to dissect it and do a post-mortem analysis on it.

I have a WVC1400. The input circuit is almost the same as the 1200. The difference is in the Mosfet. I replace the RF25 & RF26 and they break through. These are the KIA3510A. Something else is wrong. He could establish that with the scheme of the entrance part .

Dear Kedar, thank you for posting the video. I bought this same inverter that did not work one day. The red LED is lit steadily. When it was replaced the new one worked perfectly which eliminates all doubts about the solar modules and the installation. What was the solution you adopted to repair your micro inverter? Hi Kedar, i bought one of these inverters a few week ago and tested it with 2 x 260w panels, it looked to be working fine, i decided to try each panel on their own to see how close they were so i turned off the AC power and unplugged one of the panels after turning on the AC power i noticed there was nothing on the watt meter, when i looked at the inverter there was no red/flashing green or solid green light, the whole thing is just dead, any ideas what may have gone wrong and how it may be fixed ? I had same problem, Blew out 4 of these wvc1200's Contacted KaiDeng and am sending them back for repair. It appears that they mosfets blew out after i disconnected the through cable from one inverter to the next. I was able to recreate the same behavior. I had 4 240w solar panels connected. Was disconnecting the through cable to test voltage and it blew. Also noticed that my AC voltage increases up to 263v AC then resets the inverter so it just keeps cycling on and off. Any idea's i would appreciate it.

NEVER NEVER disconnect any solar inverter under load from AC ! The load rejection will produce an overvoltage surge that can easily Kill the output MOSFETs or the protection MOVs, before the Inverter can control it's power output. I installed a socket between the inverter and the switch, and before disconnecting the Inverter I plug in a dummy load in it ( Old electric heater, 1500W ). Plug in heater, open switch, wait 5 seconds, unplug. The load is bigger than the capacity of my solar panels (4 x 235W) and then The Inverter "Feels" the synchrony loss and the voltage drop, shutting itself down in a second. The resultant overcurrent is much less harmful than an overvoltage. This was installed after I toasted several Enphase inverters, "protecting" them from lighting storms and other issues. Cheers.

Hi Kedar. Great video and help me a lot. My 3 pcs. WVC1200 all MosFet burns after only 5 month use and some of the cobber on the PCB also. I need a wiring schematic but the China company will or cannot give it to me. No support and just selling. :( Ps. the panels are right so must be bad quality inverters. .Anyone can help me ?.

Hello Kedar. I have a problem with a WVC1200. When I connect the 4 solar panels of 300 Watts the red light bulb lights up. I just connect the output to the 220 Volt mains, the computer synchronizes and changes the led to green, but it only lasts a second and returns to the red and does not synchronize again. Which may be happening, check out the Mosfet and all are well. Thank you.

Do you know why this??? Ac Volt 5.1v... and I have 220v. And PV actual is 0.00a Too. Where is the error?? WVC 350 Life. My inverter marks a fixed red led. The socket where it is connected and checked is 220v. But it doesn't detect. I've read somewhere it could be just one piece. The 14D471K that has been due to a power surge. what do you think?

Does the wvc-1200 have the diode for preventing reverse current from solar pannel? I wonder if I need a distribution pannel to pass the electrical safety check

Normally the diode is in the photovoltaic module. Make sure your module has the reverse current diode.

i have some question for youi use wvc-600 220v/50hzbut my country(korea) use 220v/60hz AC PWRso, i'm afraid that it make a trouble with my equipment(refrigator, tv, etc..)how can i change frequency from 50hz to 60hzor, it's ok to use wvc-600 continuous.

This 1200W inverter is a design mistake. They use IRF3710 with power dissipation around 200W this means this inverter is for maximal 800W. The internal resistance of this IRF is 23mOhm, was better to use something like TK100E10N1 with 2.8 m (typ.)

I have the same inverter, but suddenly it stopped working and 8 of this Mosfet`s have a short. But I can`t read the type because the manufacturer cut away the lettering. Hope to hear from you soon !

Hi, my name is Francisco, I'm from Brazil. I bought an inverter of the same model as yours on eBay, my inverter is of a newer model (with small differences), but I think that the MosFet are the same. When I connected the inverter to test with a solar panel of 330W, it worked only about 15min. Then the same fault occurred as your inverter, short on the 4 DC inputs and no AC voltage. Do you fix your inverter? Do you have the electronic schematic of this inverter? Can you help me? Tks...

Hi Francisco, have you solved the problem? I too have the similar microinverter and experiencied this behavior. I was observing the issue and concluded, at some level of certainty, that these microvinverter can not work with hi power PV, in my case they are of 325w. When the sun is at high peak, microinverter becomes very hot and stop to work. Now I´m looking for a new one capable to manage my PV set, but I have not found it.

Check the tiny 15a integrated fuse, they have 4 for each Input

irf3710 or other 100v mosfets are not enough for this inverter. At least 150v Best is to use 200v mosfets. Mine have had 150v mosfets and still blown because of high voltage spikes. Try irfb4227

Can someone direct me to a company that I can send my WRC inverters for repair. I have two that my solar provider cannot repair because they were burned by high or low voltage and I have two more that are working but not efficiently , the green light is constantly flickering and never locks into solid green. Thanks. Shipping to another country shouldn't be a problem if necessary. Thanks

Heavy Price Competition and Technology upgrades has resulted into the compromise of components quality used in GTI... 99% the culprit is the Power Devices and the Diodes which get Shorted otherwise there is some problem with the Driver Ckt... if you can replace the Mosfets/IGBT and the Diodes and check the Driver ckt once maybe the Inverter can work fine again.

if you need to change the inverter voltage you also need to switch the Transformers and other power handling components so I would rather not touch anything

I saw that all the negative wires are connected together(black ones). Can someone confirm if positive(red ones) also are connected together. I need to know due i will attach 250w panels (5 pieces) so i will need to connect 2 panels in one port and 1 on each other.total 1250w

In the WVC 600 the 2 positives are connected together internally (Not at the same point but by the motherboard). I think that in the WVC 1200 the 4 inputs are together also. Check with an ohmmeter.

Hi Kedar, how do you connect this inverter here into 240 volts system with 2 hot lines, neutral and a ground line. This inverter here only has 3 wires one is hot line and neutral and a ground wire. Please right back. This is Hollywood here.

You have leg1 and leg2 + ground/neutral In the United States Leg1 and Leg2 have 120 votes to neutral but 240 volts Leg to leg. A 240 vote circuit is from leg to leg while 120 volts leg to neutral.

One wire is connected to the case it is ground not neutral. 240 does not need neutral. 2 wires connect across your 240 volt connection to your panel.

This micro inverters do not have efficient surge protection in the both side of a FV System . Only fuses and sometimes insufficient components to suppress very short atmospheric outbreaks. Especially In the DC side as well AC surges arriving from the utility grid. Even in small projects when, is more practical using this kind of inverters, we have to include better protections in both side. Sometimes supposed savings can be a great loss. I love micro inverters but I always keep my eyes on this frailties.

@@rosendoalmeida Podem ser de várias origens. Os surtos mais comuns são provocados por entradas de cargas de grande potência constantemente em toda a rede de distribuição da concessionária. Um exemplo bem nítido é quando um quarteirão todo fica sem energia quando um transformador de rua queima ou seus fusíveis se rompem. Quando esses problemas são resolvidos, ao retornar a energia elétrica para esse quarteirão, uma imensa carga entra ao mesmo tempo, surgindo um pico de tensão de elevada amplitude e de curta duração, que trafega pelos cabos que vão até os consumidores. Esses picos danificam eletrodésticos mais sensíveis, causando prejuízos aos consumidores. Surtos mais raros mas não menos destrutivos, são os surtos causados por descargas atmosféricas (raios). Essas descargas são de imensa intensidade e se induzem na rede de alta e baixa tensão, atingindo uma área muito maior que os anteriores citados. Para minimizar esses surtos, é importantíssimo que em suas instalações elétricas, não só as fotovoltaicas, você instale um bom aterramento (não confundir com o neutro da concessionária). No quadro de distribuição você terá, além das fases, um barramento onde o neutro será ligado (para tensões de 127 volts) e mais um outro barramento onde o cabo que sairá do aterramento que você deve construir, também será ligado. Inclua dispositivos de proteção de surtos (classe I e II) para serem ligados nas fases, no neutro e conectados nesse barramento de terra. Com isso você estará se protegendo dos surtos provenientes da rede AC nessas duas classes (surtos sistêmicos e por descarga atmosférica). Do lado DC a mesma coisa. Os módulos FV devem todos serem interligados no seu aterramento e instalados dois DPS's em cada polaridade no lado DC. Da mesma forma, conectar os terminais desses DPS's no mesmo aterramento. Isso pode reduzir muito os efeitos de todos os tipos de surtos, mas nunca eliminá-los 100%. Surtos provocados por descargas atmosféricas são de grande intensidade e em cerca de 25% deles, mesmo assim, o esquema de proteção pode falhar. A grande maioria é drenada pelo seu sistema de proteção contra surtos se o seu aterramento for eficiente (com resistência de terra menor que 10 ohms) e seus supressores de surtos forem de boa qualidade. @@rosendoalmeida Desculpe se fui por demais extenso, mas vou simplificar um pouco mais. São dois tipos de surto: 1) Os provocados por descargas atmosféricas; 2) Os provocados pelos pelos próprios consumidores quando ocorre inturrupções e injeções abruptas de energia elétrica na rede de distribuição no momento da normalização do fornecimento. Você tem sempre que utilizar um aterramento elétrico confiável e construir dois quadros de proteção. Um para o lado AC e outro para o lado DC. Tem que utilizar DPS's específicos para essas duas classes de surto (Classe I e II). No lado AC se for uma instalação trifásica, utilizará 4 DPS's Classe II). Um dos lados dos 4 DPS's você conecta às fases e neutro e os outros lados desses mesmos DPS's, você conecta ao barramento onde o seu aterramento foi conectado. Da mesma forma do lado DC, você terá um outro barramento onde o seu aterramento será conectado. O cabo positivo ligado num dos DPS's e o negativo, ligado no outro DPS. Os terminais que restam desses DPS's, você liga no aterramento. Lembrar que do lado DC, você no caso do micro inversor desse vídeo, deverá ter uma tensão de no máximo 36 volts. Os DPS's para corrente contínua são específicos para essa aplicação. Em casos de associações de módulos FV em strings, você estará lidando com tensões que podem chegar a 500 volts ou mais. Nesses casos, consulte o fabricante dos DPS's para utilizar os modelos corretos. As tensões geradas pelas associações são naturalmente altas em função da potência de sua usina fotovoltaica e as descargas indiretas podem ultrapassar alguns kilovolts por intervalos de tempo curtíssimos, mas devastadores. Apesar do chinês ter dito que não sabe o que avariou os EXFET's do micro inversor, certamente o surto veio do lado DC (descarga atmosférica).

Question: does the WVC has a timeout when switching in again after a timeout. Question: does the WVC has Voltage High and low protection when grid voltage go outside the voltage thresholds Question: my WVC has a poweline interface, does anyone has an idea what PLC module I need to communicate with it and what the API Command are to request for data. This converter has a terrible construction. Why it has 50V capacitors when it should work with up to 60V. Build to fail. Mine worked 2 days at 50V and was burned.

this inverter is use less. do not boy it. there are better at a similar price on the marked. It is lausy designed. A 1 year electro mecanic studed can do it better.

Is that fuse or current sense resistor? Thumbs down. You need to check gate of the mosfet. Seems like you're beginner in this domain.
