I would've kept the original photos in .. and maybe have a piece of plastic on top to avoid any wear coming from them being touched. Just because .. those photos are precious and they can be lost if not kept safe. They are the same photos her grandma touched when she was thinking of grand dad .. the same photos her mum looked at .. so they are much more valuable than those new prints imo.

Plastic does horrible things to photos. The gelatine used to attach the emulsion to the paper loves to stick to surfaces.
